If you like aquaducts and hydraluics you should look up the waterworks systems around the Aztec captial and other nearby cities, fucking insane shit.

The city and other ones nearby were built around a lake basin, with the captial on an island in the middle. They expanded that island with artificial ones, that had canals between them, and built causeways to connect that island/city to other ones around the basin across the lake, with aquaducts along them and that went all the way up to springs from a nearby mountain. There was also dikes built to regulate the flow of water around the lake basin and to keep the fresh water coming down on one side of the basin and the brackish water on the other. The Aquaduct also had two channels, as one pipe was running the water, the oother would be cleaned.

The second most important city in the Aztec Empire, Texcoco (which was also in the basin, but on the lake shore on the other side of this image of the main lake section, so off to the right), also had a really rad aquaduct system for it's palace/resort grounds that ran from one mountain hill to another over a huge gorge where a stone causway/aquaduct carried it over; had a flow control system using pools and multiple channels; then it circled around the next hill in a complete ring with channels off that ring to form waterfalls to water the planets around the imperial botanical gardens and then also to the palace for running water.

In the image, the yellow lines are causeways/roads, the cyan dotted lines along them are aquaducts. The red like is a dike, and I think the blue lines show water flow off the nearby hills, but then canal lines inside the city? Not sure what they'd be on/in the lake itself, though.
