Neanderthals – not modern humans – were first artists on Earth, experts claim

>More than 65,000 years ago, a Neanderthal reached out and made strokes in red ochre on the wall of a cave, and in doing so, became the first known artist on Earth, scientists claim.

>The discovery overturns the widely-held belief that modern humans are the only species to have expressed themselves through works of art.

>In caves separated by hundreds of miles, Neanderthals daubed, drew and spat paint on walls producing artworks, the researchers say, tens of thousands of years before modern humans reached the sites.

>The finding, described as a “major breakthrough in the field of human evolution” by an expert who was not involved in the research, makes the case for a radical retelling of the human story, in which the behaviour of modern humans differs from the Neanderthals by the narrowest of margins.

Native americans and east asians have much more neanderthal admixture than other people.

We don't know if it's that they mixed with them more or that their Neanderthal mix is less diluted than Euros.

I believe they were more exposed to them over time, so the contact was more prolonged than cromagnon.

Is that a dick in that 3rd panel?

Against all non-Orientals?

Far East Asians confirmed master race.

ya I read that article, and I was sceptical at the findings.

The only fact that was discovered is that the art was dated to 40000.

However, another conclusion that one might draw from this is that modern humans were infact in Europe during that time. I find this a much more logical conclusion.

all the recent findings about ancient hominoids seem to point away from the "out of Africa" theory.

so ya This article is actually straight up FAKE NEWS

Because there was no proof or finding that Neanderthals actually made the art. Just that it was older than they originally thought...

thats not art

>Can't show any human remains that old
>Or oldest haplogroups come from outside of Africa

/pol/

Europeans have more generic affinity with Neanderthals than they do with abos.

unlike niggerica, Europeans actually build civilization so old bones are harder to find considering they have stuff on top of them.

Yes, all those civilizations built in caves. Stop being retarded.

>only brings up Europe
>can't list remains from the rest of th le world outside Africa

Also, haplogroups.

>this is your brain on pol

Abos have higher Neanderthal ancestry than Europeans silly.

Doesn't appear to be as old as these Neanderhal drawings, however here is more evidence of ancient hominid art, this time from Denisovans...

>Neandertals drew on cave walls and made personal ornaments long before encountering Homo sapiens, two new studies find. These discoveries paint bulky, jut-jawed Neandertals as the mental equals of ancient humans, scientists say.

>Rock art depicting abstract shapes and hand stencils in three Spanish caves dates back to at least 64,800 years ago, researchers report in the Feb. 23 Science. If these new estimates hold up, the Spanish finds become the world’s oldest known examples of cave art, preceding evidence of humans’ arrival in Europe by at least 20,000 years (SN Online: 11/2/11).

>The finds raise the possibility that “Neandertals took modern humans into caves and showed them how to paint,” says archaeologist Francesco d’Errico of the University of Bordeaux in France.

I thought this was well known. The earliest artwork comes from Europe.

Not by humans.
