Other sources confirm too that he was a power-hungry opportunist and not an ideologue like most of the Soviet leadership - basically he didn't believe in communism and recognized that Russia will fall behind the US (no wonder, he was the guy in charge of spying on them), so it's better to try and stay friendly with them.
Most likely he would have been a Soviet Deng Xiaoping: liberalizing the economy, improving relations with the west but keeping the USSR as a brutal dictatorship and continue using his power to be a degenerate rapist.

The cold war completely fucked up most of the third world in ways that effects us to this day. The rise of Islamic radicalism was largely caused by Americans funding islamists in their proxy wars. Iran was turned into a shithole when the paranoid CIA removed Mosadegh, paving the way for fundamentalist revolution etc.

I've heared in reality he was a nerdy guy who was in charge of a lot of industrial breakthroughs, including supplying the frontline during the war. And that portraying him as a violent head on the NKVD is just another Khrushchov's plan to whitewash himself, just like his ruse with the "Stalin's repressions", and that in fact Beria was rather lenient in that office. Also, that all the rape clames were forged after he was shot and before the trial.
