Why is Veeky Forums not vegan yet knowing high meat based diets cause diabetes ?

you can have a healthy / shredded body while vegan, but I don't know how realistic it is to maintain that type of diet in colder climates, where winter produce arrives barely edible.

The basis of veganism is indeed compassion and a specific moral baseline, but its environmental benefits and potential health benefits are strong motivators too. When I first started thinking about converting, I kept telling myself that I don't care about the animals' and only want to do it because of the food waste going up from producers (plants) to consumers (cows) on the food pyramid, as well as the other environmental benefits of veganism like GHG emissions reduction, water footprint per calorie reduction etc. Ethics later clicked, and while it is indeed a more solid foundation to go vegan, it was not what initially drew me.

I just ate some meat from the local butcher, probably drove past the cow every day on the way to work, feels good man.

When I was 9 or 10 I went on a school trip to a slaughterhouse, got to see some shit like a room of blood etc and then we got to eat meat at the end. Some things are food for other things, that's the circle of life. I believe animals shouldn't be abused and mistreated of course but I'll still eat them if they're killed humanely.

Firstly I'd say keeping animals as pets isn't a good move anyway. That would then lead to saying abusing a dog & slaughtering a cow for food are completely different. More than the meat is utilised upon slaughter too so wastage isn't an issue.
Saving a few animals doesn't mean you have any moral high ground but that's just my opinion. I'll defend your right to express your views to the ground, but it's bases is solely personal, you can't expect everyone to adhere to your codes.
