Are deadlifts effective at all at producing hypertrophy? They seem like a reddit-tier lift that does nothing other than burnout massive ammounts of energy. I rarely see massive dudes do them and usually only the "le never skip leg day" dyel, reddit crowd doing them

No, but they make you strong.

They're pretty worthless if you're trying to build an impressive physique for the ladies
Some body builders do them for the back workout but you're better off doing rows or any other assistance exercise

Machine exercise*

is the massive test boost thing real or also overexaggerated

They're pretty good for building traps and erectors.

You will not have a complete looking back without deadlifts. You can do back extensions but your erectors still won't get the same amount of work.

Its raised test but it doesn't not affect protein synthesis, Jeff Nipprd just made a video on the subject

Also those massive dudes your referring to are your average run of the mill gym rat. Guaranteed they don't have a nice looking back and it sounds like you go to a shit commercial gym and have only been lifting for a few months if that

why the fuck is your belt so high lmao

nah being for a while im just wondering why people who deadlift are either real life redditor looking people or fat sacks of shit

if you're putting massive loads on your cns, you will produce more growth hormone. as for testosterone - if you want to increase that try banging some women

just inject test bro

The deadlift is literally the best exercise to build an amazing physique. Even that faggot Elliott Hulse says this.

does nobody on this website lift just to increase strength? Its like 100% of the lifters here are just bodybuilders

It's current year and you mongoloids are still trolling about the effectiveness of deadlifts. Good to know nothing has changed in the 2 years I've ignored Veeky Forums

everytime I see a no-body nobody pull 375 lbs I realize : 1. my deadlift sucks 2. i'm not built for dlift 3. dlift is a trick.

this kids' legs are probably 55% of his height at least.

>flexes a 'cep

Oh, it's THAT FAGGOT Elliott Hulse? He's THAT FAGGOT to you? I bet if your penis was up his booty hole you wouldn't be calling him THAT FAGGOT anymore. Because then he'd be THIS FAGGOT. As in "Oh THIS FAGGOT? Just some faggot, don't worry about it. What were you saying?"

>Its like 100% of the lifters here are just bodybuilders
100% of the lifters here are in it for the aesthetics
because they think if they looked good they suddenly would become outgoing and popular and have a girlfriend

it's like wow what the fuck is /plg/

>They seem like a reddit-tier lift
Fucking newfags

...

Back to plebbit with you. Loser.

What exactly do deadlifts do that squats don't? I can just keep squatting and progressing for juicy legs and lower back. Then I can do pendlay rows/lat pulldown/shrugs for upperback. If I need to work my glutes/hamstring that much then I'll just do the much safer leg curl machine.

Hit every stabilizer in the body and builds Grip strength.

...

>hits every stablizer in the body
what the fuck does this even mean? this is practically meme wording at this point like ~starvation mode~

>grip strength
uhhh shrugs? farmers walks? which are much better for building traps/forearms because they actually target them.

Let's face it. The only point of deadlifts is to get better at deadlifting for powerlifting competitions.

>What does that mean
It means exactly what I said it means you baiting faget. You are lifting a heavy ass weight from the floor and standing up with it. It uses every god damn muscle in your body to do it with proper form.
>Grip strength
Yeah, show me you farmer walking with 200lb dumbbells.

grip strength is the biggest meme
your arms and back will give out a thousand times sooner than your grip ever will

There is more to the body than muscles
Putting heavy strain on your whole body has beneficial effects

>Grip strength is nothing!
>Your arms will give out a thousand times sooner!
What did user mean by this?

>your arms will fail way faster than your arms
oh shit why didn't I think of that

Squats don't work the spinal erectors the same. Deadlifts are also better for glutes and hams because it's a more pure hip extension you can do with heavier loads.

Are you the same guy that made the 'Bench Press is a Meme' thread?

no but my chest has been growing more since i swithed to Dumbell presses so i kinda agree with that. its a good excercise but its over rated

Deadlifts also have a variety of alternative forms that can be done with it that offer different focuses on the lift to allow you to diversify how you do the same lift. For example, if you have a fragile back you can do something like a sumo deadlift which reduces the strain.

This is a complete lie. My deadlifts are stalling right now because I can barely grip the bar after 2 reps while my back is fine.

bullshit, it's in your head
unless you're donnie tiny hands

Mixed grip?

>just one

Never gonna make it user

DELET THIS

The redditors are right lol. Veeky Forums is pretty much 100% wrong about fitness.
what Veeky Forums thinks

You should've been using gh and ostarine with the rest of your gear, faggot

If you don't deadlift then you might as well cut your dick off and call yourself Caitlyn. 5 most important exercises deads, squats, does, ohp & bench.

please understand that being massive != strength for your average bro gymgoer

to add to this, try holding and standing as long as you can at the top of the deadlift. you will feel all your stabilizer muscles trying their hardest to ensure you don't fall on your face

mixed grip is a poor excuse for weak grip, train your grip!

but for some reason, they all get memed into doing SS which does jack shit to aesthetics lmao

People that don't go to lockout, aren't getting the most of any exercise.

What is a good aesthetic workout?

size doesn't equate to strength, deadlift is much more of a strength exercise.
I worked out in the gym for years, never use to do them had decent muscle growth.
Within the last 5 years I started doing them, pull ups, etc.
I'm much stronger, I can lift things so easily now off the ground and feel it's a lot easier to move around while lifting.

Bodybuilding - Rack Pulls

Powerlifting/Strength Training - Deadlift + Variations

Pick one.

doing lots of reps well below your max
starting strength brings you to your max lift and keeps you there every week

New lifter here (1 month) is my plan to do SS for 3-4 months then switching to PPL not going to make me aesthetic? Have I meme'd too hard?

depends on what your next program is exactly

>mixed grip

If it wasn't 2am I would go to the gym right now to take a video ove my 200 lb+ farmers walks. If you can farmers walk with at least 1x body weight in each hand, you are a dyel pussy.
>t. I'm a fucking farmer

you should never do ss because its a dogshit routine. do alphadestiny novice program or jonie candito's linear routine

Is 300 Ib dl good for weighing 150?

I'm a 6'4 skelly and deadlifts did wonders for me:

>stopped by back pains from office job
>fixed my posture
>gave me traps
>gave me decent neck thiccness

Not gonna mention the other back gains and some core gains.

why don't you find some more weak excuses to not lift heavy things you absolute fuckboi

t. guy in my pic

This is wrong. Locking out on most pushing movements reduces contraction, taking stress away from key muscles and places excess strain on tendons and joints.

No

In my gym all the big guys deadlift. Just because in your gym they don't doesn't mean a deadlift doesn't help in building a nice physique. (It works hams, glutes and erector spinae as well as just training your core stability.) of course they are not essential, but no lift is, everything can be substituted.

my all time one rep max DL is 185 and I weight 154
kek...

So why do bodybuilders and powerlifters use straps if grip is never an issue

You are retarded

>developed semi-severe health issues
>start lifting less frequently
>start lifting less intensely
>stop entirely for a few months
>only do isolation exercises
>look way worse than i did before
>posture is fucked up
>core looks like shit

Yeah DL are fucking great. Started doing them again yesterday and couldn't even lift lmao2plates.

>size doesn't equate to strength

Wrong. This is a meme that needs to die. After CNS adaption size is literally the only thing that equates to strength.
Go look at all the strongest dudes in the world and genuine strength sport competitors. They are all fucking massive.

After you max out your nervous system and your technique the only variable left to increase, that will make you stronger, is the size of your muscles.
That's why anyone with a good deadlift trains high volume. Single rep maxes are not enough to get you strong and thinking that's what it entails is the stuff of high sock wearing, bearded, t-rex armed powerlifting redditors.

Just because they suck at deadlifting doesn't mean it isn't a brilliant exercise for size and strength.

Not that user, but size doesn't exactly correlate to strength though. Just potential strength. Just because you have big muscles doesn't mean the individual fibers and cells responsible for contracting and moving the weight are actually developed enough to do so. That's why you see smaller dudes that train for strength lift way more than dudes who train for size, because they actually hit those parts of the muscle made for strength.

>t. 1pl8 deadlift

He said after CNS adaptation + technique

This is true, but for advanced lifters who have trained specifically for strength, more size invariably means more strength. Among advanced lifters, generally, the bigger you are, the stronger you are.

Maybe you should just hire a carpenter

wrong, at natty mass levels it doesn't correlate much, even less so when looking at regular gym people and not top level powerlifters that do plenty of volume work to get more mass along a maxed out CNS

>after you max out your nervous system
why are you including this, which is the case in most PL-trainees and not the case in most bodybuilders?

most amateur natty bodybuilders will never be "advanced lifters" unless they specifically train for it, and much sooner reach their mass natty levels (or >95% of it, doesn't matter much). So yes, strength = size can be considered quite the meme, just wander over to /plg/ and see twinks pull/push numbers that twice as muscular people in a normie gym don't even touch

>amateur natty bodybuilders will never be "advanced lifters" unless they specifically train for it,
Yes user. And ice wont melt if you dont heat it.

Maybe next time read what you write before you post it.

my back blew up from deadlifts, did fuck all for my legs though same with squats

I deadlift, squats are the waste of time. Fuck off with your weak ass cores.

>tfw handlet

>doesn't understand interabdominal pressure

i do rdl for hamstrings

Deadlifts are meme tier exercises designed to ruin your back. You should never do them unless you compete in some strongman stuff

Actually, since I'm doing deadlifts (and my max is just 180 kg), my Body seems to explode. My back is wider and my frame in general. Many says you don't get big through deadlifts, but how it comes that I now look big but before I wast just "slightly muscular"? And I do deadlifts twice a week, sometimes I'm too lazy to do rows or other back exercises and just do 10 sets of deadlifts.

post pictures

It isn't a meme that muscles brings you bitches. I have a shirtless picture on my Tinder profile and as a text "I'm here for fun", I fuck 7/10+ girls the whole time.

Women, all women, love muscles, every single one, I can fully understand guys who lift only for girls because it works.

Do farmers carries if you want to increase your grip strength.

Hook grip bby. It'll hurt your thumbs at first thought

i deadlift with a squat stance, and never over 130kg (1RM is 190kg), for a few reasons:

1. it's "functional", ie that's how you pick up a baby from the floor, or a rock, or a bag full of shit etc; i do zercher squats for the same reason

2. i don't go near max, or try to increase the max because there's no real world application for a very very high diddly + training it heavy all the time drains the cns + i will never compete in pl, and my goal is having healthy joins, solid strength and looking good - not to have a 500kg diddly or whatever

3. this stance keeps my fucked up hip flexors in check - i have no pain if i do diddlies once a week; as soon as i stop, my left hip flexor starts hurting - i'm working on this but because my left foot is flatter than the right one, i get all kinds of hip problems that only diddlies seem to fix/keep in check

so to answer your question, for looking good, you don't really need deadlifts. you don't NEED to do any of the conventional lifts, they just recruit the most muscle. that being said, i found a purpose for a type of deadlift and that's why i do it, even though my only goal is basically looking good and being healthy

you mean like a snatch pull right? Meaning you go down into "squat" position at the start and then pull it up using mainly legs? I started doing that this last week due to clarence recommending it for snatches, had to really go down with the weight before being able to stop pulling with my back

nope, i mean squat stance, meaning something between a sumo and conventional, arms inside legs

other name is "semi-sumo deadlift"

but i also do snatch pull diddlies, mainly for upper back though

I switched deadlifts out in favor of rack pulls.

feels good man.

explain why this would take you till you're 40, aside from buying a car which depends on the salary of your job this is all stuff you could do within a year of deciding to do it

I do diddlys on monday, and rack pulls thursdays.
My grip strength have probably never been better, that's for sure.

>your arms and back will give out a thousand times sooner than your grip ever will
100% bullshit, go to a climbing gym some time, you'll see what i mean

I already have a gf, and I've accepted that I'll never be outgoing or popular.

I lift because I want to enjoy the special treatment that good looking people get in their day to day lives.

Why is mixed grip bad? If you change between left and right.
