Can we have a thread for novice lifters?

I guess you qualify if you are
>below 1/2/3/4
>been lifting less than 12 months

How are you holding up? Come tell us about your secret life of lifting without anybody noticing because there is nothing to notice.

Just finished school about a month ago with a degree in electrical engineering. Used to be really into lifting 3 years ago but gave up when school got more difficult. Actually had reached 1/2/3/4 and lifting was one of the few things that made me happy.

Declined a job bc it would be 90% travel and I want to fucking lift and get into a routine. Now I can't find anyone who will give my resume a second look. Feels bad, but I fucking love the gym

Been lifting for 9 months, gained 20kg bodyweight from 70 to 90. I'm 189cm.
Been doing it consistently except for these past 2-3 weeks. Recently got a gf which is taking up some time
Going into army in 3 weeks, been prepping with cardio. But I've been slacking.. feels bad but I'm positive I can make it

Lifting was the best choice I ever made. That and quit drugs and porn. 1 year after that I aquired a cute gf who wants to move to the countryside and have many children. Thanks Veeky Forums

>start lifting

>oh boy really need to cut 25 pounds

>vastly improved but clearly need to cut another 20 pounds

Fucking Christ, was probably well north of 30% BF but it distributed well enough that I didn't look like it at all. My strength gains are stalling hard and I just want to get this cutting shit done with.

So close to 1pl8 bench press, I'm gonna cry the day I get it

my fucking joints hurt all the time

>without anybody noticing

Getting all sorts of compliments, girls squeezing my biceps and that kind of stuff. 1 month in btw

I am gonna tell you right now if you cheat a 1pl8 bench press, such as not letting the bar touch your chest or curving your back, an entire team of powerlifters will appear in your dreams that night and tell you what a fucking fraud you are until you wake up in sweat and having pissed yourself.

Lower weight till yer skibbies no longer whizzle

>1/2/3/4
wtf is this

>Lifting for 3 years
>Still struggling with 1pl8 bench, 2pl8 dead
Why even live

5'10 145 lb skelly here. I've been following this program for three weeks, is it a good one for aesthetics?

135 OHP
225 Binch
315 Squat
405 Diddy

I have been doing body weight routines but don't know when to make the jump to free weights. I'm currently 135lb

oh no baby, what is you doin!?

asap

Seems to be bretty good.

nice, me too. I would have had it last week I think, but I had to get my wisdom teeth out

First cut is going well. Started at 100.5 kg on the first of May, currently 91.5 kg. Though I'm starting to get sick today with a cold or something, and I just fucked up and ate about 3100 calories (daily goal is 2300). Was done with eating for today but felt like shit, then ate some pasta salad in the fridge, a protein bar and after that half a pack of gravlax. Oh well, at least I 'binged' on regular food, didn't go crazy high or overdid it on candy or shit. Still unhappy, probably gonna try to make it up tomorrow by eating 800 less, so 1500. I won't be going to the gym since the symptoms will probably be even worse when I wake up tomorrow, so I think I should be able to do it.

How in the fuck? Have you been lifting one month at a time with 8 month breaks in between? How is that even possible??

ppl is not for beginners

>tfw next week I'm going to hit 1pl8 on my squats
>tfw I've been gaining on OHP without trouble
>tfw after deloading a bit I've hit a new high on bench press and it's just getting higher
>tfw deadlifted my bodyweight today
>tfw finally got the hang of barbell rows and I can feel my back gainz

Just can't advance, had a few major resets. Also pretty sure I have back issues, pretty much constant pain but I've heard deadlifts are supposed to fix that.

Started in January. Doing well, haven't missed a day (only 3 days per week though, I don't mean to say I'm working out every day). I only recently learned about bulking so I'm trying that out. Have been consistently in a surplus of calories, despite being a skinny manlet who has trouble eating enough.

Since I started working out, my weights have been consistently getting heavier and heavier, but I haven't gotten much bigger. I suppose that's because I only recently figured out bulking. I wish I realized it sooner, but fuck it, it's a process. Always learning

>Started 5'9 110 lbs and worked hard getting to 164lbs
>Friend killed himself at boarding school and I couldn't save him
>now 135 lbs

Why even live? I'm embarrassed to go back to the gym. I feel weak and insecure. I hate wearing t shirts now and I hate being the skinny guy again

I don't want to just add weight to the bar. I want to become athletic. Fit, strong, healthy.
I figure I need some long distance low intensity. Some heavy lifting, and some conditioning. I didn't play much sport growing up so I don't have that athletic base to work from.
If I were to lift 3 days a week, bjj 2x and go on 1x long trail or hill walk every week, will I achieve my goal?

We already have one. It's called the Sticky.

I was out of gym for six months and eating only one meal per day so i lost all of what gains i had but now i'm back and closing in on two plate squat and three plate diddy, one plate ohp and two plate binch are still further away, but i'm going to continue this time.

Took me about 8 months to get it from the day I first walked in the gym, but I got it. Came in supe runderweight, couldn't even chest press 30 lbs on one of those machines. My progress has kind of been stalling lately because of work and all that shit, but I'm trying to stay more consistent. My goal is to get 1/2/3/4 by the end of this year. gl bro

Also: when I started out I was doing ~10 reps of 30lb each side for bench press. Now I'm doing 52.5lb each side. In around 5-6 months, is that progress good? bad?

Also when people say 1 pl8 bench press, that's 45 each side right?

I've been eating at a deficit since I started lifting b/c fat. At the beginning, it was so easy and I figured lifting while cutting being hard was just a dumbass meme. But for the past few months it's been so hard. No energy, hardly any progress in the gym. And I'm not lifting to get stronger anymore, I'm basically just trying to keep as much muscle as possible while losing weight, but I'm really self-critical and it's hard not to get pissed with myself for not performing. My stats are Sad! but SymmetricStrength says I'm an intermediate in squats and rows.

thanks for the input breh

Highschoolfag here
just got the gym membership I had been saving up for all summer, super stoked I'm only on day two so I still have a long ass way to go
I'm 145lbs 5'8ish skinny-fat sack of shit who cant even do more than 5 reps bench with 95lbs.
also pls explain lingo I'm new to this
>inb4 newfag

I had to look up 1/2/3/4. I fell hard for the machine meme (more restricted ROM means they're better at isolating the muscle groups, right?????) and I only recently made the move towards free weights.

I have yet to verify my 5RM because I have no one to lift with. I'll try to get my friend who's a personal trainer (who inspired me to get fit) to show me proper deadlift form, although in my job as an EMT, the stretcher + a fat person can regularly be 400+ pounds. Also I only discovered today that I was doing back squats, not front squats, so I gotta work on that.

No idea what my bench press is. I do dumbbell presses because I'm too autistic to ask someone to spot me. 40lb dumbbells 3 x 10 is nothing, though, so I'll likely move up my next workout.

All that said I look aesthetic as fuck

Bro SS and gomad is the GOAT for skellys I would swap into it and add accessory work if ur really worried about aesthetics.

Been lifting for just over a month now. Went from 130 to 144 pounds. All my lifts have increased by around 30 pounds. Was super happy to hit 2pl8 deadlift recently.
