Zhukov

Why was Georgy Zhukov not purged by Stalin?

Stalin only purger people with an IQ over 100.

Mutual respect, and Zhukov apparently gave off a vibe that he by and large wanted to be left alone.

And yet he got involved in the power struggle after Stalin died

He actually managed to survive a round of purges because he insulted Stalin.

Stalin reacted by demoting him, and then a few months later Barbarossa happened and all of Zhukovs former coworkers got purged for failing to hold the line against the Nazis.

He was going down in the new wave, along with Beria and others

In the 1930s purges Zhukov held the position of deputy cavalry inspector, which made him a close personal friend of Stalin's friend Semyon Budyonny. This saved him.

The 1950s purges Zhukov was on the top of the list but Stalin died before it could happen and Beria destroyed all the documents showing who was planned to be purged.

He still got sent to Ukraine after the war and then to the Urals because Stalin didn't like how popular he got.

How the fuck did no one ever consider offing Stalin?

Beria was actively planning it probably.

2 effay 2 kill

This triggers me, Zhukov wasn't the head of the soviet army in 1953

user, it's a comedy movie.

Why couldn't they be accurate?

He was part of Budyonny's cavalry army (to which Stalin was commissar) during the Civil War and Polish War along with others like Timoshenko, Voroshilov and Kulik.
Purged people like Tukhachevsky were more involved with Trotsky during the same period.

what is this from?

he had 0 interest in politics, all the shouting and arguing with stalin was about technical details

Creative liberties. When you are dealing with a work of fiction, accuracy is not what you strive for. *Authenticity* is.

Why get involved after Stalin's death then?

When Barbarossa started, Stalin had a nervous breakdown because he thought he was about to be murdered. Lucky for him, no one was stupid enough to want to take the reigns of power in the midst of a what seemed to be an eminent horrific defeat.

The "Death of Stalin" movie

Why did Zhukov let Stalin live for so long?

thanks user, have a qt

what's with the fucking scar?

He salvaged the Red Army in 1941.

kek'd because it's true

They finally did at the end. Bog know who it was though.

he was demoted after the war since he stole valuable art pieces from Germany, but he was too popular and loved to be purged

because he was close with Khrushchev, and would rather side with him than Beria

Zhukov didn't care about politics and only cared about military.
Even after Stalin died, his only concern was rehabilitation of purged military staff.
Zhukov was so much autistic about military that in late 1942, he demanded/threatened Stalin to accept his military reforms. Stalin shit himself thinking it would result in coup, so he accepted but never forgot what Zhukov did.

He didn't really want to, Stalin just decided he was too popular so sent him off to shitty commands and Khrushchev capitalized on it

Stalin was vaguely jealous of him since he was a more successful general than Stalin had been, and also he took no shit and didn't play politics. Stalin was still fundamentally a person who ruled by fear, and was fairly certain he could be safe from a man who was nothing but straight talking with him. Also, the fact he was a 3 time hero of the Soviet Union by the time Stalin got really paranoid didn't hurt.

Because Zhukov wasn't a yes man (the political/military purged were getting rid of traitors and yes men, not the other way around) and he was an effective commander. Furthermore, he was a hero to the Soviet people for khalkyn gol and ww2, as well as being groomed to lead the USSR by Stalin. If it wasn't for kruschcevs pseudo-coup,we would've had a Zhukov led USSR

>we would've had a Zhukov led USSR
t would be Beria run with Zhukov as Premier, for all his faults Beria was far less autistic than Stalin about shit like this

Stalin sort of liked it if you didn't go out like a spineless cuck
Budyonny survived for the same reason

So fucking effay

Budyonny survived because he was a living legend

as did Beria. He heard he was about to be arrested so he flew from Tbilisi to Moscow and asked Stalin to spare him. It worked, and he got the job of the guy who was supposed to kill him but fucked it up
