Not him but if I recall correctly, he's talking about it taking him over 20 years to realize he really didn't have to and probably shouldn't have killed all of his opponents in his countless duels. He was so far stronger and better than any one of them, he could have easily just injured them. But killing so many of his duel opponents caused a lot of misery and loss for a lot of people around Japan.
It's a manga about Musashi's biography, it's pretty damn great.
