good news is it will be hard to track you down and sue you. Most small claims shit if you don't have the mailing address of the person you want to sue you gotta spend a lot of money to make it happen. They have your SSN so you can be tracked down eventually, and in time fucked over with the price of tracking you down added into the damages you caused.
What I'd recommend, is tell them you are not paying for it since it was an accident, and never go back to that gym.
If they start calling you tell them you are calling your own lawyer to sue them (for having possibly outdated, maybe even factory recalled, treadmills) and the treadmill manufacturer if they keep calling you and demanding you pay damages.
Pro tip, only tell them this ONCE then never pick up your phone for them ever again, if they want to keep fighting about it they can leave a message on your phone. Then it is time to call park bench lawyers about suing everyone you possibly can.
