Ok i want to ask everyone here: how much you know about Roman history? because for me, they're exactly the same belligerent, loud, sleazy people they were back then. Romans were just fucking Italians with strange tastes in food, most of them dumb as fuck plebs obsessed with sports and gossip, most of them lazy and working half the day then napping and slacking in the afternoon at the baths, most of them not giving a fuck about laws and constantly having petty disputes, most of them simple and with tacky, horrid tastes, most of them being annoying bickering retards. That's what Romans were.

And they weren't some mythical noble race lost to the ages, they didn't succeed over others because they had traits you associate with success today like being stern, steadfast and introvert like the anglos or germans, they just were what they were and that worked out because of a few extremely gifted, visionary and tenacious individuals who roused their passionate nature into achieving extraordinary goals.

the only argument people muster to say Italians today aren't descendent from ancient Romans is that they aren't a glorious dominant empire, but genetically, culturally and geographically, that holds no water. Genetically, these populations have remained mostly static and the invasions from other peoples have all been insignificant in their impact, Culturally, the Italians of old share the most common traits with them independently of their world relevance, and geographically, the old empire's heartland, the Italian peninsula, is still a unified self-governing entity. It succeeds Rome, perhaps not what it accomplished, but it's no use ignoring that it's there.
