How do I free myself from my wretched human desires?

How do I free myself from my wretched human desires?

You can't. You're a social mammal with lots of feelings.

It may have appeared to Siddhartha that you can be detached from all emotions but this view comes from a spiritual-not scientific perspective.

What you can do is use reason to determine what is and isn't desirable for yourself.

See this is why Taoism is superior. Buddhism is unrealistic, Taoism says it's ok to have material possessions, just don't let them posses you. Don't live to posses, posses to live. It's the way of the sages user.

pretty ironic to call others fags when you care about pointless shit

Even your desire to be free of human desires is, ironically, a human desire. The only option is to kill yourself.

Neither of these is what Buddhism teaches. It fully acknowledges human desires and nature, it's no different from Hinduism in this regard.

Your opinion is uninformed and shit. I'm really tired of people thinking they always have something to contribution. Unless you've spent a great deal of time reading Buddhist literature or put in significant contemplative time in relative solitude, then fuck off with your pleb-tiered shit. I know I'm being a dick and such, but I'm really tired of vapid comments like yours.

Different sects of Buddhism say different things.

Depends on the school we're talking about.

If Buddhism actually works, why are there different sects? Sotapannas are supposed to know the Dharma intuitively be able to distinguish true teachings from false ones.

or user. You're looking for social answers to a biological or arguably spiritual question.

Learning is hard
So is teaching others
So even if it was successful, it would still splinter as bad students become teachers, and those wrongly taught pupils do their own thing because they are good at teaching.
Nevermind that maintaining a cohesive structure is hard when your sect is scattered all over Asia, meaning it will splinter off.

Slice off your penis and your balls to get rid of sexual desire. Then debilitate all your senses. Then spend all your time meditating, eating very little, staying hydrated and sleeping.

Stop being alive.

>If Buddhism actually works, why are there different sects?
Why would the emergence of multiple sects invalidate a particular set of teachings? I mean, I hate to be rude, but your question is very stupid. It took me five minutes to figure out how to frame a response because of how stupid it is.

>not desiring to love and serve God and to follow Christ

What are you even doing?

Unless you believe in reincarnation then don't bother, because pretty soon you're not going to desire anything

It's said in the Pali Canon that Sotapannas (people who have reached the first stage of enlightemnent) have what we could translate as a "Dharma eye", meaning that they have an intuitive understanding of the path and can naturally distinguish true teachings from false teachings. (they are even able to attain Nirvana in 8 lives at most even if they never meet other buddhists again)
Later additions to the teachings would be immediatly seen as false teachings by those who are at least Sotapannas and you wouldn't have disagreements among great teachers of the true tradition.

Do you actually believe in liberation from Saṃsāra, Nirvana and all of that shit?
i mean it's like believing there is a god right?

Chant Hare Krsna daily

"By rendering devotional service unto the Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, one immediately acquires causeless knowledge and detachment from the world." (Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.7)

you can't, even if you follow the monk's path there's no guarantee that seclusion will free you from your human nature, that's why you don't see a Buddha popping out everyday.

Detachment =/= having no emotions

And OP: either be born as an ariya so your natural loftiness of soul precludes you from ever having to descend into materiality to learn the hard way, or learn the hard way by experiencing the futility of the circuit of desire and satisfaction enough times that that knowledge becomes stronger than the voice that tries to rationalize the urge

Why would you? Free yourself from feeling guilty about your desires by embracing them.

You apply tantra to combust them as fuel, obviously.
Trul Khor and forceful breath all day every day

Your desires are part of what make you human, for better or for worse. Ridding yourself of them will make you not a human being anymore.

Begone, foul disciple of Slaneesh!

Taoist metaphysics is based. The rest is trash.

>The highest good is like water.
>Water gives life to the ten thousand things and does not strive.
>It flows in places men reject and so is like the Tao.
>In dwelling, be close to the land.
>In meditation, go deep in the heart.
>In dealing with others, be gentle and kind.
>In speech, be true.
>In ruling, be just.
>In business, be competent.
>In action, watch the timing.
>No fight: No blame.
The Tao Te Ching is filled with little poems called chapters and is a really nice quick read. This is my favorite which is chapter 8, I recommend you read others user, it's really zen and insightful.

Stop watching porn.

Redditnigger alert.

>Depends on the school we're talking about.
Obviously. That doesn't make criticizing "Buddhism" as a whole based on that any more valid.

Aversion is another form of desire. Do your homework nigga. If you're intent on posting vaguely Buddhist platitudes. Meditate, read the literature.

embrace emptiness

What's Ariya? I thought only humans can reach enlightenment. (Mahayana here)
