I read the first two books and got partway into the second and gave up. Most of the characters are just shit, especially the female ones. I sound so jaded because I really wanted to like the series as medieval history/fantasy novels are one of my favorite genres. I forced my way through 2 books and about half of the third before being fed up with what was ultimately a vehicle for GRRM to express his fetishes.
