Self improvement

So Veeky Forumsizens, how is your self improvement going? Been reading books, working out, or something else? Feel free to come here and talk about it.

I'm feeling pretty good, lost about 20 pounds so far (197 to 177) and biked 12 miles today.

I didn't think it was that big of a deal lol.

I work as a computer programmer, so my key for productivity has been to master the Keyboard:
- Full usage of all fingers with ergononic movements and positions for writting and common operations.
- Windows shortcuts for management of desktop and its windows.
- Shortcuts for text management, like Ctrl + Del to delete words.
- Mastering of programming development like ReSharper.

It is all going well so far!

You didn't pick that up while learning how to program?

I'm also learning to trade using cryptocurrencies. I've make over 10k in about 4 months, starting wil aboit 3000 dollars. Not so good for cryptotraders, but not bad either.

I created a bot to practice my programming skills and produce me some passive income. It is not always profitable, but good enough for a start.

I'm taking course on Udemy on learn deep learning (the best of machine learning today) to create a better trading bot, but I'm teying hard. I'm not so smart as I used to believe.

I also have a small project for a better cold crypto-wallet, but thats a Veeky Forums issue. No rush for it.

No, just as 80% of programmers I know and almost all computers users.

Its pretty neat you are learning that stuff. I certainly never did.

How do you use machine learning to make a trading bot? Or how do you make a bot to trade? Doesn't it have to interact with a website or something? My knowledge of machine learning doesn't go much further than neural nets so I'd be curious to know how this works if you have any suggestions.

Nice list. I haven't read most of them, but I have read How to win friends and influence people as well as The 7 habits of highly effective people.

As someone with 0 experience / knowledege in both programmin and statistics/economics, how to do get into cryptocurrencies and make money?

Meditated for 15 days in a row
IF for 3 weeks in a row
Havent done any drugs for the past week

Still working on the fap and porn thing... I think Veeky Forums has to go, seeing too many lewd things here trigger my fap senses

Gonna join your train in two weeks
we are all gonna make it user

Good luck brother

I use Nomie 2 app to keep me in check and to track my progress. You know what they say, you can't improve much if you don't keep track of your progress.

idiot

Kek that thumbnail tho

>company i interned at this summer gave me a fulltime offer for next may
>hit 225 atg and the "1/2" in "1/2/3/4"
>learned to cook
>lost 17 lbs and 8% bf
>much more confident, able to look people in the eye and be the center of attention more easily

next steps are things i failed on this summer
>learn german to a basic conversational level
>finish my album
>learn how to take all my money and turn it into even more money

anyone here in sales?

what is the barometer for basic competence?

I have similar goals

accomplishments
>gained a little weight this this summer
>got a little stronger
>read a couple books
>got a good recommendation from my internship

things I failed at
>tried learning german but it was way harder than I thought. Still a lot to learn before I'm fluent
>tried to learn to go out and interact with people but realized I was just drinking a ton. Still need to work on not being shy.

What language/packages are you planning to use to make your bot?

I like your list. I think you'd like "Extreme Ownership" by Leif Babin and Jocko Willinck

>Still need to work on not being shy
>people openly give opportunities for at least friendly conversation
>shut down and try to leave the situation as fast and politely as possible

>varying degrees of worry about saying something stupid without knowing it

Finally getting into a good piano practice routine and I'm recording again after a year of writer's block. Putting more weight on the bar, too. FeelsGoodMan

positive
>taught myself about advanced economics stuff, like the black shcoles equation which is a transformation of the diffusion differential equation for heat
>halfway through learn you a haskell for great good
>lost ~8lbs down to 16% bf, abs here i come

failures
>became more autistic from prolonged lack of social interaction

I've never been a very healthy person. I'm not a total wreck, but in the past few years I've been moving in that direction.
I am now 26 and have been suffering from gout for a few years. After a recent visit to my doctor I weighed in at 250lbs, though the weight isn't as noticeable on me as it would be on someone smaller (I'm a 6'2" male). However, it was a huge wakeup call.

I radically changed my diet and have been doing well eating less. Fortunately I already don't eat most of the gout trigger foods (greasy fish, shellfish, and alcohol), so I'm only losing out on beef, which I consider a minor sacrifice to get healthy. As for exercise, I've been running and just started a new routine.
After two weeks I've lost nine pounds, so I feel like I'm off to an okay start.

Can anyone give me advice on how to start with pushups? So far I haven't been able to manage a single one, and I'm at a loss on how to build up enough strength to get started on such a simple exercise since I see pushups as the sort of thing one does to get strong enough to do real exercises like lifting.

Help?

I have a good gf, not perfect but she's nice, cute, I was her first in everything, good girl, the kind you'd raise a family with.

But I really want a 'bad girl', for some reason. I don't know what it is, it's probably the excitement I had with those kinds of girls.

I don't want to leave my gf, so how can I work this out?

You could start doing pushups on your knees. Then work your way up to doing full push ups.

The grass isnt greener on the other side

I couldn't manage a C in a college algebra course, which is what I need for it to count, despite working extremely hard. What a waste of time an money. I feel totally defeated.

youtube.com/watch?v=7oKPYe53h78
Stay with her.

By realising just cause you want something, does not mean you need it. Control yourself for fucks sake, don't give into hedonistic temptation

So that actually works?
Cool, thank you.

The good:
>down 30 lbs from the start of the year
>saved up around 3 grand this summer through getting a second job
>enrolled in community college since I was a high school stoner who did nothing and got shit grades
>starting to slowly calm my anxiety

The bad:
>still think about her every day

if you did your absolute best, and that was the outcome, consider a different path. or if you want to keep going, only do so if you have specific advice that relates to you and everything you did to try to get the subject

It's not
is blind

Part of me says it was my best. Part of me says I should have done xyz differently.

I've started studying for the GRE by reading one of those prep books by Kaplan. I'm terrible with standardized tests so anything helps.

Improvements:
>Just finished a book I've been meaning to read
>Just hit 4 plate DL and 3 plate squat this week
>Studying for my Certified Wireless Security Professional exam I'm taking this month
>No longer in crushing debt

Failure:
>I still drink
>I'm still gay, no homo

Getting of the prescription opiod ride slowly but surely
>stepped down from oxy to codeine to tramadol
So far managed to avoid any serious withdrawals and stay functional

If you want to be a true computer wizard, learn vim, and also install a vim keybinding extension for your browser like Vimium. For example you press "f" and you can follow any link on the page by its pop-up key code. You can browse the internet without ever taking your hands off the keyboard!

>Started IF
>Started Meditating
>Practing my guitar at least 30min a day

Been fasting for at least 3 weeks now with the addition of cardio and such. Been noticing body changes and face looking better from the fat loss. Meditating has worked wonders for me even tho I am on day 7 with it, has really helped clear my mind. College is about to start again and this is my 3rd time attempting it... last 2 years have been nothing but fails but this time I made actual changes so I can get this degree.

How do you guys motivate yourself?

The thing is I'm an insanely hard worker when I need to do something or get my mind set on something, but it's hard for me to get that initial motivation to start.

I'm just like you bro except.for the guitar.

I write screenplays.

Keep at it bro

I also need help with this. It seems like the only thing that can make me work hard is the threat of a deadline.

stop being a little bitch and do it

I have had trouble falling asleep for as long as I remember. How do I make sleep gains? Also, did any ex-smokers ITT notice better sleep quality after they quit?

>tfw two dumb to understand philosophy
I've borrowed a few basics from my philosophy-major roommate (Sartre, Nietzsche, Kant) and can barely even understand what they're trying to convey, even when I read the same paragraph five times. He says it just gets more complicated from here since for most relevant philosophy you have to have an intermediate knowledge of basically everything that came previously since it all builds and argues against previous things.
Always considered myself decently smart and didn't have trouble with "philosophical novels" (like The Stranger or Dostoevsky's stuff) but moving into pure essay-form shit is hard.

Lifts have been going up at least, almost at a plate for 5 OHP which is decent since I have lanklet arms.
Have a lot of new music written that I'm going to record and mix as soon as it materializes into a cohesive album, excited for that.
Been trying to get back into dedicated guitar practice, which is kind of a pain because I just want to play shoegaze stuff but need to get better technically. I used to be able to shred decently, now my coordination and accuracy are completely gone.
Make sure you're relaxed and with a low heart rate before you go to bed. Meditate (even just a few minutes of deep slow breathing and mind-clearing) and avoid caffeine (it affects everyone differently, never gave me a problem but some people say it lasts for like 8 hours so idk about you). Make sure you're not getting too much sleep, more than 8 hours (except for an occasional sleep-in) will prardoxically leave you more tired when you get up yet prevent you from sleeping at night

how do you stay energized my guys?
my weeks pretty much look like this:
>work 3 days (office job)
>lift 4 days
>play guitar 30m a day
>code 30m a day
>go out maybe 1 day
rest of the time i have very little energy and am basically just killing time until i go to sleep. i feel like i dont have a busy schedule that should lead to being constantly tired.

Cardio everyday

Nice, I'm hoping to get a full time offer from my internship this week. Feels good man

You don't want a bad girl. You think you do, but you don't. Just stay with her and be glad you found someone to raise a family with because they are very rare.

good idea, i literally never do cardio

read books my dude. don't force yourself to read stuff you don't like though or you'll grow to hate it. find some genre fiction you like, maybe read some non f about something you're interested in.

Way to go man. Sounds like some big improvements

i've been trying to read more lately.
anyone know some good books on stoicism that are not Meditations? i just can't get into that book. I read some Seneca and liked it though.

me too! I'm a informatics student and you certainly don't pick this stuff up. Switched to colemak too

tfw i am extremely happy with my life even though i have no friends or gfs. idk i just love my own company. earlier today i walked home from the gym and the rain was pouring down i just started laughing because i just love the rain
when i got home i sat in the rain for about an hour and just enjoyed the water pouring down

Finally moved out of my parent's place. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

I never read anything on stoicism except this
A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy
It sounds like what you're looking for.

thanks mate, i'm going to start reading this tonight

I feel like I'm doing good, lost about 50lbs thus far (just shy of 3 months) in to respecing and have started replacing flab with muscle. Cutting out bad dietary habits one by one and watching calorie intake like a hawk. Been using dumbbells for my workout regimen instead of a barbell to make sure both arms are putting forth equal effort so I don't end up looking like I powerfap at a professional level.

Get a g13 game pad and program it with all your most used hotkeys, Im an animator and when I did this I sped up my workflow by about 30%

Is no fap a meme?

i've met this really nice girl she's driven and pretty hot. She's a virgin as well. There must be a catch..

Anyway I met her through my friend (She's my friend's girlfriends friend) and we're all going for a meal again in 2 weeks.

Any tips on how to talk to her etc?

i'd hang out with you user

Currently trying to create one too with a friend.
Did you use any opensource framework or started from scratch?

Which language do you use for the bot?

>vim
that is for pajeets.
use emacs

how is the daily experience compared to before? your life in general since the move?
