Fitness at home

Do any of you guys exclusively work out at home?

Is it possible to get fit just with dumbells and calisthenics?

What are your opinions on people who don't go to gyms?

Going to the gym is for fags, with enough dedication and knowledge you can work out any muscle group

I don't do calisthenics, but I used to do this routine before starting at the gym:

It's a good one and has a lot of progression, which is key for hypertrophy and increasing strength.
You would still need some equipment like a pull up bar. Maybe you could add some dumbbell exercises to that routine.

Don't let anyone tell you that calisthenics isn't enough to get really fit. With proper progression and form, and just a pull-up bar (maybe a dip stand too) you can achieve pretty amazing things with the body-weight.

I have heard this but I always thought it was a meme, the more I read about fitness though, I kind of see going to the gym as a bit unnecessary, most people seem to do it to socialise and for motivation.

It's honestly personal preference. I do calisthenics because I like working out at home. Cheaper, less social anxiety, etc.

If you're interested in a place to start, Paul Wade's Convict Conditioning (terrible name, good program) or Al Kavadlo's Get Strong will get you on the right track. Get Strong in particular has a great 16 week program.

Why did you switch? was there a specific muscle group you didn't get with this routine?

Thanks, I will definitely look into this

No problem man. Have fun.

it's possible to build a great upper body with calisthenics, but it takes a hell of a long time to do in comparison to weight training. plus, if you want the kind of legs and ass that makes women (and men) bite their lip, a barbell is an absolute necessity.

post bread1 and 2

I personally think you can get pretty close doing pistol squats, but yeah, that's about all calisthenics can't do.

...

You can just use two dumbbells instead of a barbell for most exercises

amazing

I work out at home only; mostly just using dumbbells. It started because I was living paycheck to paycheck, no internet in a shitty little hole in the wall, but it has become kind of my thing, even after I got a better job. I can't really say I've had the urge to go back to the gym.

I do Zumba videos on YouTube

Don't. Convict conditioning is an awful program.
