Immortality

I have seen 80 year olds that are bedridden and 80 year olds that can jog around town.

What kind of exercises can I start doing that will make me retain my youth and prolong my life? Is it all a cardio thing?

Sense of purpose in life

Moderate but regular cardio, every fortnight-month do long distance hiking/biking, lift but don't do bodybuilding or powerlifting (aka too intense loads/volume), be generally active in your everyday life (don't sit all day and walk/bike to stores etc.) but don't overdo it (standing/walking for 10hours), eat healthy, go to the doc every year but don't take meds on the reg, don't forget the dentist, brush at least twice daily, floss everyday, don't smoke, don't overdo coffee/alcohol, be happy, find love (sorry brahs), family, friendships, have children, sleep well, generally take things in moderation, have awesome genes, have luck so you don't injure yourself in an accident.

tl,dr: have common sense (and act accordingly) and you will live long.

My grandpa is super active and past 80.
He just lives an active life: building stuff, walking his dog, dancing, etc.

There is a specific gene that accounts for this. Research the foxo gene.

Don't eat shit. Eat a diet of fish and vegetables mostly, with meat and dairy only as delicacies.

Recognize the fact that as you grow older you need a slightly increased protein intake as your protein synthesis gets worse.

Lift weights to keep your muscles from deteriorating. That's it.

Both cardio and strength

Increased daily activity
Don't get more rest. Get GOOD rest.
Learn to deal with stress
Eat less food
Carry less body mass
"Athletic mode" aka natural peak is the absolute most amount of muscle mass you should ever carry.
10-15% bodyfat is ideal
Cut back on sugar

Basic calisthenics strength work and stretching is the bare minimum you need to maintain and build impressive strength muscle mass and endurance for the rest of your life.
Taking long daily walks, hiking, or simply being far more active throughout the day is the most you need.

Stress. Learn how to deal with stress in a constructive healthy way.

Learn to build and maintain a comfortable relationships with people and an apropriate amount of social contact.

Find a hobby that will keep you mentally fit. That will challenge your mind and keep it functioning well.

Find something that will drive you. That will help make you want to get out of bed in the morning.

this, all day this.
grew up next to a farmer.
he live to be 93 and was active until he had to kill his sheep due to some sickness in them, year later he died.
another farmer i work closely with has had both cancer and other shit happen to him but he just keeps on going but i know that he will fall down dead the moment he has nothing to do.

This.

Retirement kills. Never stop doing things on a day to day basis.

When I am that old, I hope to be rich and jacked enough to go around third world countries, bang young hookers and make porn of it.

I will never retire

Good shit, thanks user

Low impact cardio to save your joints. Shit like swimming and... more swimming. Keeps you in shape and doesn't bang you up. My dad ran all the time, he's healthy at 82 but his joints in his knees and spine are fucking ruined.

Keep good form in everything you do. If you have to pick something up, go ass to grass, even if it looks funny. Form and posture while working or whatever is super important. Also don't sun bathe too much, a moderate tan is just fine. Use lotion and sunscreen.

Read a lot and stay mentally active so you don't get Alzheimer's.

Can't think of anything else atm but I probably will after I post this.

Good point about the swimming, I already do that so I feel a bit more reassured.

>Moderate, regular physical activity.
>Life purpose.
>Stress reduction.
>Moderate calories intake.
>Plant-based diet.
>Moderate alcohol intake, especially wine.
>Engagement in spirituality or religion.
>Engagement in family life.
>Engagement in social life.

This is all good stuff

3 most important things:
1) Strong social network; friends, family, children
2) Sense of purpose. Don't retire without something to fill your days
3) Not smoking. Takes off average of 13 years from your life

This thread makes me want to start calisthenics, i know its better for your joints

My grandma is 92. She doesn't workout (I don't know if she ever did), but she's been eating well all her life. She's still able to drive 9 hours to our house, her hair is still brown and all there, and volunteers and reads daily. She has a really good memory still. She's pretty damned healthy for someone her age.

Don't be ashamed to wear your hearing aids or CIs, because bad hearing leads to isolation and is linked with Alzheimers

Swimming is great, if you can't, power walk, looks stupid af but way less stressful on the body than running.

A way to live longer which may be unpleasant is calorie restriction. Eating less will make you live longer. Not anoerxia, but 10-15% less than maintenance

Good genes, decent diet, stay active
They better you rank in these, the longer you'll live barring accidents

Great-grandfather died at 93. German stock, smoked until he was 50 then quit cold turkey. Was a bus driver & mechanic until he moved, then worked on a warehouse loading dock until he was 68.

The only reason he went into assisted living was in case he had a second heart attack, and that was at 87. He demanded that it be close enough to a gym for him to walk there, and he was only one of three residents there that were still walking. He was the only one walking unaided.

Was finally did him in was the second heart attack at 92, and losing lung volume until he was down to ~25%. He was still a hardass, dancing at Christmas, but common infections at that age kill when you're a giant that's been cut down to size

>Lift, but don't be a powerlifter about it and collect a bunch of injuries in your joints that make you age like shit.
>Emphasize stretching and mobility. Good movement patterns will both prevent injuries and actively make your joints stronger.

Most late-life injuries and frailness essentially happen because of weakness in the bones/joints and in the muscles supporting them. Strength training and stretching are actually more important than cardio for keeping up your long-term quality of life.

Be active your whole life and dont die.

Thats it.

Nothing against lanklets but ive rarely seen a tall elderly person. Im scared brahs. Is the longer bloodflow time a meme?

Got damn home-run here.

1) People shrink as they become elderly, both literally from spinal discs compressing and also from standing up less straight. When you see an elderly man with old pants up practically to his chest, it's because he's had them for years and they *used* to fit at waist-height.

2) The current crop of elderly people were young when the average height was shorter, primarily for nutritional reasons. Literally a shorter generation.

be active mentally and physically
stay at healthy weight
dont smoke

the rest basically doesnt matter. either you have the genes for it or you dont

>be poor
>live in rural area
>smoke until 94
>walk your entire life from village to village when a car or bus isn't available
That's how my grandma did it

both of my grandads and one (1) grandmom died in their early 60s
how fukt am i?

What about biking?
