Life improvement

what are some other examples of quintessential Veeky Forums life imporvement literature?

no gay poetry and fiction allowed

I am depressed and have took - for about 10 years - shit like Welbutrin, etc.

Going to the gym is (for me) a better way of treatment by 5 fold, easily

Sun and Steel

models is a good book. life changing for me desu (yet I'm still here).

His book "Fuck yes or no" is also really good and can be applied to pretty much everything in life.

>no gay poetry and fiction allowed
yeah, I only wish I read models sooner, how good is "fuck yes or no"?

read How to win friends and influence people + this and I feel I need to catch up my brain.

models is good, but no more mr. nice guy is the next level. it makes you realize a LOT of shit you do that you don't even realize.

I'm in the same boat. The medications (also Wellbutrin) in conjunction with hitting the gym consistently (and seeing strength gains) have almost completely cured my depression.
It's possible I could even be able to stop taking the medicine, but I'm not ready to test that out just yet

wellbutrin felt like it did fuck all for me. I think the cognitive behavioral therapy was better. I guess how I feel now isn't as bad as I was before, because thoughts like "you fucking suck," "you're worthless," "why do you even bother?" "why don't you just kill yourself?" are fewer and farther between. it comes back sometimes, but I'm usually able to get out of it faster. I guess this is as good as it gets for me

why does she have a black sun symbol ?
nazi's aren't supposed to be hot

user, whenever you're ready.
I am 30 now. Was using it in my late teens early 20's. I just got tired of feeling nothing and being robotic. I like your approach, it's cautious and gradual. Whenever you're ready.

EXACTLY the same for me during the time with Wellbutrin. I think I was more afraid of the void than the pain

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin (dude was a 18th century Chad)
And this is pretty general, but pick up a book in whatever your hobby is. Become an expert in that field it impresses people and gives you a goal to work towards.

meatheads in charge of staying on topic

anything by Jack Donovan. He writes about masculinity, plus he's a literal homofag, so he'd fit right in here

>pic related
>seriously

If you were raised by women

I see this book get mentioned a lot, is it worth the read though? Should I sit down right now and read the whole thing?

I would read the first two chapters and think about whether it applies to you. Maybe give it a day or two before continuing thought because it is meant to be something you work through, a bit like therapy

Start with the Greeks.

>no gay poetry and fiction allowed

There is no gay poetry or fiction, you should start with the Greeks too.

>reading for fun (Intellectual masturbation) instead of reading to learn
pleb tier

x10

>I've never read the Greeks so I'll just spout memes that i've read on reddit
You learn a lot from philosophy, try it and see.

>he actually is arguing that reading books that wern't made to teach are great books to read and learn from
Please educate me how "The Prince" is a great book to improve my life
>inb4 thats not greek
Machiavelli wrote better "Greek" works than any Greek piece i've had the displeasure of reading

If you need these books you've already failed at life

Well, it's neither poetry nor fiction, so it qualifies what you are asking for.
Modern science tries to explain and study what you can measure, its called οperationalization(google it) and modern societies are build on it (typically transforming everything into money). This is why they are failing even though they have great technological achievements. Philosophy tries to explain and study what you can't measure, ethics, morality and what is beyond measurable.
I'm not saying that philosophy is over science, I'm trying to say that you can have the best of both worlds to live above the failing society. Get rid of operationalization and widen your horizons intellectually.
Also, faggot that's neither greek nor what I mean when I say Greeks, I mean ancient Greek philosophers not whatever random shit you can find that can be considered philosophy.

does it matter if you listen to the audio version instead of reading the book?

I bet you're gonna be in some sort of existential crisis within 5 years. I remember when I was younger and felt untouchable.

Heres' two advices you should follow:

1. Understand that your body and brain have needs, and that your brain has a reward system to give you the drive to attend those needs, and that it does so by recognizing where you were and what you were doing when you previously met them. So it recognizes a pattern and grows attached to it. These needs are not just physical, but also social, sexual, etc

If you keep giving your body a feedback that says you're fulfilling your necessities, it will keep allocating all the proper dopamine releases (or whatever, I'm not even going to pretend I properly understand the science here) to those activities. So when you make, for example, online bullshit your main source of social interaction, and self-pleasuring and porn your main source of sexual fulfillment, even if those things are not bad per se, they might be keeping you from wiring your brain to new sources. You can make friends here and score there, but your instinct will always be the more lonely, precarious activities you grew used to.

As a result, every time you step outside the boundaries of your routine, you might feel alienated, your actions will feel forced, you'll have no drive etc, because you're wired towards fulfilling your necessities in the manner you've grown adapted to. If you really want to develop good social skills, a good dating game, and more importantly the drive to obtain those, you'll need to cut the previous supply, and you can only do that through abstinence.

2. If you want literature that will help you understand what women want, don't read fucking men. Read that erotica garbage that sells milions of copies. Read romances. Watch chick flicks. Listen to dumb female dating podcasts. Read female authors in general. And try to attune your sensibilities to theirs.

Women who try to understand men through other women always fail, while the ones who just get into dude stuff and develop a dude sense of humor become wife material. Do the equivalent of that.

>I failed at life and needed people who scammed me to give me false purpose
>Everyone must be a failure like me!
Nope, its just you.

Who's talking about failure? It's about feeling unfulfilled, feeling stuck etc. Intelligent people gravitate towards pessimism and melancholia. I choose to not be willfully ignorant of issues. Reading the types of self-help books posted in this thread can give you insight on other perspectives and maybe even broaden or change how you see things.

listening to the models audiobook now and he references doing SS+GOMAD in the fitness section kek

The vagina monologues.

Matter of personal preference; I read it. Both are available online for free if you dig a bit.

Just read the whole thing, don't remember it being a long read. I started it thinking most of it didn't apply but after finishing it I found it definitely did hit pretty close to home on certain things.
