I've turned more Socialist as I've gotten more and more diligent with my exercise, work and hobbies. Society is structured in such a way where people who feel vulnerable are desperate, and have reason to be. With baseline standards for quality of life, we would all be able to lift, pursue our hobbies, and only do useful work (imagine no office and retail busywork).

It's always difficult to talk economics and politics with people who have "American" point of view on political/economical terms. In my country, liberal is strictly an economical stand point and has nothing to do with societal views. Hence most liberals here are centrist or slightly right. Always confusing when I read liberal for hard-core leftist views.

As for the thread, I think going to the gym is mostly egoistic. Right wing goings I know are far more egoistic (not in a bad way, I am myself one) than leftist youngs.
