wrong board you stupid ass faggot. fuck off.

reminder to NOT bump and REPORT these fucking idiots.

If i wanted to know what martial art /asp/ practices i would ask them,
>Implying marital arts isn't fitness related.

>fitness related

As fitness related as powerlifting

> 6'7" 230 lbs
> Intermediate lifts (no squat tho)

Considering getting into martial arts to complement fitness, my coworker recommended Muay Thai. I am looking for something that teaches me some fighting skills as well as improves mobility, cardio, etc to go along with lifting.

Only thing I worry about is a torn adductor in my left hip prevents me from a lot of movements and results in debilitating pain. Any other recommendations based on that?

Also, is once per week training enough to get a general base on the skills?

>reminder to NOT bump
thats easily avoidable by saging, son

>blue belt in bjj

>Amateur boxing experience

Kickboxing and judo.

I do martial arts for health and fitness, what is your fucking problem gymcel?

Am I training too much?

I do kickboxing and recently started sparring. My kicks are decent but I cannot into boxing, but my strategy of staying away and throwing lots of kicks with some shitty straights is working against other noobs while I gradually figure out infighting and hooks.

As long as you get enough sleep and food then you should be fine.
Try adding running into your routine.
Work up to about two 6 km runs a week and a sprint workout.

Try to establish a jab and then throw a cross after it.
You can also use your kicks to set up punches, it front kick-cross-hook.

Starting judo in about a week. Can only attend one class per week because of my university schedule conflicting timetables (until next semester at least) Will I be able to make decent progress or stuck as white belt for super long

Also any tips?

A torn hip is bad for learning to kickbox, but maybe doing the muay thai course will help you rehabilitate it.

You gotta learn to close the distance
Try to add in some punches to your kicks
Like start with body punches and do the high kick finisher

Cool, so far my only real kick to set up punch combo is inside leg kick, jab, cross, outside leg or body kick. I'll try cross hook. The only hooks I throw are the hook, jab combo against south paws.

Yeah distance-wise I either stay at range and pick apart people who are somehow worse at distance management than me, or eventually they close the distance and swarm me with punches (like the end of Cung Le vs Wanderlei Silva). I'll definitely have to mix in body punches, right now I just set up head kicks with other kicks.

>Thread about eating Roaches? Cool
>Thread about Boog for the 200th time this week? Cool
>Thread about MMA? RRRREEEEEEEEEEE

You'll be stuck as a white belt for awhile, but you'll end up a very good white belt. Just keep on it and next semester arrange your classes so they don't conflict with Judo. You might also be able to find people (probably other noobs) in your school willing to practice with you outside of class.

forums.sherdog.com

Sherdog is pretty good for figuring out your opponents if you spar with them often. Just search up something like "how to counter the jab", etc.

If you have the time I would recommend yoga aswell.

Sounds good. I have pretty good instructors as well, I just need to put in the time!

I'd love to do yoga but haven't found a school that really fits in location and stretching wise (my martial arts gym has yoga once a week but it's during kickboxing). I just do 30 minutes of stretching 2-3x/week and 10 minutes of stretching 3-4x/week. Gotta maintain my ability to throw kicks.

Nigga who tf sets up punches with kicks, it's the other way around

BJJ cos sparring every lesson

There's also a 2hr kata class that I can attend, is that worth attending too?

Yes.

But I am in the minority with that opinion. You'll need to learn nage no kata if you ever want make shodan.

stretch your neck and tuck your fuckin head in. Whiplash is no joke

nope, unless you're really keen

Dutch kickboxing. I think I want to start doing something with grappling too so I could maybe later do MMA. Thinking of BJJ because I'm short for a Dutch person.

Muay thai. I was rooting for Mayweather btw.

mfw the 10th round

kill yourself lol

Tae kwon do

>mcnuggest fags are casuals who are cancer to then mma community
>then there are people like my teacher who said he didn't even know who mcgregor was until the day of the fight and he goggled it

Fighters are far fitter than powerfatties. They actually do cardio for one.

It was a pretty nice knockout. McGregor really needs to address his fucking cardio, it's beyond embarrassing at this point.

>McGregor really needs to address his fucking cardio, it's beyond embarrassing at this point.
>at this point.

I was expecting nub reactions due to the popularity of this fight but some of you people are blatantly retarded.

Sorry anons, but you need to go at least two times a week if you want to improve unless you're very talented. If you just want fun fitness, once a week is fine, but if you want to learn to fight, it's too little.

jesus christ this is the most "I talk like I train but I don't" comment I've seen in ages

bjj.
wanting to take up a striking sport but lost between muay thai and boxing. which one would be better for a strength focused physique? im pretty explosive at 6'3 205 lbs and a wingspan of 6'6

Judo user here

Can only do 1 reg judo class and 1 kata class (which is right after) until Decemberish when my first semester ends, then after that I can go 2 days a week. I'll just have a slow start I guess.

Would it be bennificial to see if I can join one of the coloured belt classes to get more hours in, or would it be too advanced and just be confusing / disruptive for the rest of the class

Boxing would be better. pic is boxing heavyweight champion

mafucker is beastly

Just moved to HK, want to take up both BJJ and muay Thai while I'm here.

There's a ton of MMA gyms around that appear to mainly geared towards fitness. While fitness is a goal, I also want to learn to fight.

Whats your opinion on these gyms offering a range of different styles, are they good value, or would I be better going to specialist gyms for each style?

whitebelt class first, at least until you can get the basics down. No point training at a much higher skill level if you can't fall properly

Just started BJJ, it's pretty fun. I think it could be a good outlet for me (lifting doesn't do it), and it's also cardio without being cardio.
There's something satisfying about grappling with people, when you see it in videos it looks kinda silly, but when you do it it feels different.

kill yourself

Muthafucker is roided as fuck, slow punches for such leanness. Disgusting. Heavyweight boxing is for plebs after the greats (Ali and Tyson)

He doesn't do road work(running) because he believes it is bad for your knees.
Their is a reason that every single credible boxing coach recommends it as the best thing you can do outside of the gym,

>Kata class
That must suck
I have to do a kata for my blue, it is boring as shit, also my green belt kata was arse.
Just go the the colored class, unless you are training with non recreational judokas then they wont mid if you are learning,

What gym do u go to? The class routine's sound just like mine

jesus christ.
get corticosteroid injections for your hip and play basketball or someshit. fuck that

can we talk about /rug/ here? it's almost wrestling

Yeah man.
What shit do you do to make your straining specific to rugby (lifts wise)

5'7 160lbs with a 5'4 wingspan, if I don't want to die in the off chance I get in a fight what should I learn? I am able to throw punches with mediocre form + power because I am a former fatty who spent all of my cardio time at a boxing gym, but I want to be able to defend myself because I don't like being helpless

>Does cardio at boxing gym
>Step one -Find martial arts gym
>Step two- ?????
>Step three-profit.

>What shit do you do to make your straining specific to rugby (lifts wise)
I am a rookie, but right now I'm doing a lot of cleans (because I want to sprint faster and get more explosive power), as well as hip abduction/adduction (good girl bad girl machine and resistance bands) because it helps with your sidestepping/agility.

and a lot of neck training on off days, because a strong neck reduces the consequences and risk of concussion.

i'm surprised I don't see the martial artists in my gym doing more cleans and oly-esque stuff, is there a reason? I would have thought it would help for the explosive power behind strikes, increase pound for pound strength and what not

Running/jogging is catabolic and bad for your testo though. Sprints for cardio.

Lack of understanding of boxing was as big of a factor as pure cardio. He punched himself out in the early rounds. Classic rookie stuff.

thai is more complete imho, but you can try a few weeks of both and see what you like better

does the fist game in muay thai hold up against other forms of combat?

yes, they do
actually since they focus on elbows a lot you have a wider arsenal to use
it always depends on the teacher anyway, it's better to choose a great teacher even in an ma that isnt your favourite instead of your favourite ma with a sucker

absolute truth family.

i trust my bjj coach.
now to see wassup wit this MT/Boxing.

ultimate goal is mma proficiency of course

You can absolutely set up punches with kicks

Suggestions for a martial art to take up that doesn't involve touching or being touched by people's feet?

Tae kwon do

How do I make my cross stronger

My coach says I need to be extending my hip and using my glutes more, like I'm throwing a baseball, but I can't fucking figure it out.

Boxing

I'm trapped in dyel mode cause of fighting, If I try to bulk my weight class goes up and I can't fight in the lightweight bracket. Yea I'm not pro, I'm 4:2 but if I had to move up to another weight class I would be blown the fuck out every match. I'm 5'9 so light weight is perfect for me.

I practice Muay Thai, it's a lot of fucking fun, my six matches have been really pleasant and everyone is respectful. I sliced this dudes nose right open with an elbow and he praised me. I took a pivot kick directly to the face and man, there's something about getting your ass beat that makes you have long ways to go before your anything special and that's what I like about fighting.

Massive Bain damage when I wrote that didn't even make sense shit

MMA = Faggots rolling on the ground for 40 minutes

fuck off

it's no homo you nigger

>tfw you can be dumb and also filthy rich
Must be nice

Also
>Big brown on suicide watch

Put some time into kata and you'll find it does pay off. A really good teacher will point out the sort of little details that are often skipped in class - the kind that makes a difference overall.

5 years of BJJ
7 years of Judo
10 years of Aikido

Dabbled in other, would like to pick up some striking again, but no time as it is.

>5 years of BJJ
>7 years of Judo
>10 years of Aikido

>would still get knocked out in a street fight
lel

kata is boring and fucking useless

Did kickboxing for a year too, I only listed the ones I still actively train.

While I dislike the ceremonial bullshit, the study and depth that kata entails definitely helps you improve.

maybe so but still one of the slowest and less effective way of improving
more sparring is always better

Sparring all the time is going to result in too much wear and tear not to backfire at some point - been there, done that - which is when a bit of kata is an excellent way to get in some training.

Lol you couldn't even approach a striker let alone bring him to the ground phase you utter cuck.

>be a boxer
>street fight with ufc "striker"
>he can't do shit and needs to play tickle with you on the floor
lol, ok

you can do light sparring, like those karate little to no contact sparring to reduce the risk
always going hard is not a good idea that's true

fucking fightlet snitch

Post your feet.

>be boxer
>try to slip a punch in a street fight
>get kneed in the face for going low

>be boxer
>begin jab crossing on a striker in street fight
>get clinched no ref to save you

>be a boxer get in a street fight
>get teeped to the chin because your a boxer and never dealt with leg jabs before

>be a boxer get in a street fight
>don't know how to close the distance against someone constantly move backward and throwing kicks
>happen to catch one if your lucky
>end up in a clinch against
>ref can't save you

Gtfo

>be "striker"
>everyone watching you dance and run away like a fucking faggot.
>throws a stupid kick
>does some stupid meme spin backhand
>gets knocked out
kek

Dude your just wrong. A boxer does not have the mechanics to deal with the tools an mma fighter has, that's why the chucks beg them to fight in a boxing ring and not the octagon.

Boxing teaches you foot work and how to fight another boxer

Boxing is a sport and yes it will definitely help you kick ass on the street 90% of people can't throw a punch, but if you try fighting a guy with same amount of time under his belt as you but he does shit like Muay Thai, bjj your just fucked lad, I'm sorry

Only sparring means you'll come to lack technical skill eventually.

i mean sparring instead of kata
you shouldnt neglect training basic hits, combos and advanced tecniques at the bag or with a cooperative partner (meaning that he doesnt counterattack)

>but if you try fighting a guy with same amount of time under his belt as you but he does shit like Muay Thai, bjj your just fucked lad, I'm sorry
>Muay Thai
yea, no.
it's some meme shit for manlet asians. i've seen muay thai fighters get absolutely destroyed by amateur boxers.

>bjj
ok, but you're proving my point.
they can't win unless the play tickle me elmo on the floor with each other.
it's fucking gay and not respectable fighting.

the only people that think that shit is real fighting are other bjj faggots.

if i got into a street fight and some cuck starts trying to choke and kick, i;m just gonna grab a pipe and bash his face in.

>it's fucking gay and not respectable fighting.
how many times as a BJJ practitioner beat the shit out of you user? 20? 30?

First of all your in a street fight, you don't respect that fucking guy because as a fighter I know your not going out to bar trying to beat some poor souls head in right user? Because you and I know better than that. Secondly end the fight as fast as possible, how do you do that? Run or put them in a submission, of course you run the risk of his mates breaking your skull while on the ground.

Muay Thai is not meme shit, it's the staple of almost every big fighters deckl

BJJ. Shit is a great workout and probably the most practical one to learn. Learn a little wrestling (you probably will within bjj) and boxing to go along with it and you're set

how long do you "roll" with your butt buddies and still can't fight for shit?

idk dude, just seems like a joke.
>wanna be a great fighter?
>learn to roll on the ground and choke people out!
come on.

even muay thai is more respectable than that shit.
i respect bjj dudes that only take it to the floor against another motherfucker that can roll.
but if it's your sole fighting style, you're a chump. come to a street fight trying to choke and you're gonna get your head stomped in, like you said.

>get into street fight with BJJ fag
>he immediately lays on the floor and pulls guard on me
>start stomping on his balls, face, chest

When will graciecels ever learn?

A wrestler or judoka is far more likely to do better against a boxer in the street that just another striking art. Seriously, if you think kicks are a good idea you've never even seen a street fight.

>i have never been leg kicked before: the post

Believe me, you gotta experience it to know how devastating it is.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=EDjE4BywrE4

literally what the fuck is he doing.
he can't be a professional boxer.

the stupid faggot is keeping distance letting him get those kicks off.
the dude is a stick, close the distance and start going to work.
holy shit.

>Not just fucking him
