I might've gotten into fitness and healthy eating too late. I spent 5 years doing nothing but being a drunk and earlier this year, I decided to change that. A couple weeks ago, I woke up sick as hell and had no idea why.
I went to the doc, they did blood tests and my enzymes were in the hundreds. They immediately ordered an ultrasound and said I had fibrosis, fatty liver and an enlarged liver. I asked what could be done and they said nothing, just don't ever drink again.
Obviously since there's no pills to push on me they aren't going to give me any recommendations. Are there any decent dietary options available for healthy liver eating? I started taking milk thistle with water every 8 hours but that's all I have right now. No where around here has even heard of dandelion root so I'll have to order that online.
Alpha lipolic acid has been shown to reduce and reverse liver damage in trials
IF/fasting has also been shown to reduce inflammation and also possibly reduce scarring and fibrosis. You'll have to hit up the research reports on Fung's website yourself, but it has happened.
Best of luck dude, no one deserves to be fucked up from doing stupid shit when they were young

might as well drink again
Tyler Garcia
no, assuming he hasn't developed full blown cirrhosis already more drinking will surely accomplish that what that essentially means is that your liver is damaged beyond repair and might fail completely which will eventually kill you
Henry Nelson
I'm sure you guys will be laughing if it happens to you. Most cases of chronic liver disease take 10 plus years to even start showing up so you're really fucking unlucky. I'm on mobile so I can't link it but look up how I failed my failing liver naturally.
I have my own personal thoughts on the health care system and how their job is to keep you addicted to pills for the rest of your life that only treat symptoms. No doctor or pharmaceutical rep wants to hear that you're treating anything naturally because each individual is worth thousands to them.
You can beat it and fibrosis isn't the end. Just stop Wtf ever you were doing to get fibrosis after only 5 years of drinking heavy.
Avocados, lemon juice and garlic is a nice addition to the milk thistle.
Angel Murphy
How I healed my failing liver naturally
Also a big fucking duh but contain your drinking to night time only and a very minimum.
Dylan Gutierrez
No one thinks about the consequences of drinking in their mid 20s or thinks about health problems in general.
Nicholas Torres
Just because you say no one doesn't make it true. Maybe you hang out with a bunch of degenerates who don't care, but plenty of people are willing to give a shit about their future in their 20s.
Hunter Gomez
This is precisely what most people do. Their doctor tells them there's nothing they can do (which is bullshit) so they just start drinking. They think they're dying soon anyways so they just drink their sorrows away. Even then most of those people will go onto live miserable lives and last for another few decades. OP needs to go to a liver specialist or get a second opinion. If I was told I had fatty liver and that there was NOTHING I could do I would have walked out immediately because that doctor is an idiot.
Camden Watson
Also, fun fact: Prescription drugs are the 4th leading cause of death in America. That's just how our system is. They hope you get sick so they can push a bunch of pills on you that you're stuck on for life. You also better hope your insurance covers them because most insurance fights you tooth and nail on everything.
Cooper Perry
That's not a fun fact at all you stupid fucking turd. TURD!!! TURD user ALERT!!!

>I didn't think about consequences so that means no one does L O L O L
In my early 20s, I was at the bar most of the day. I was making decent money and had no responsibilities. Mid to late 20s, I stopped going out and started going to the liquor store. I would drink 1.7L of 80 or 90 proof vodka every three days.
Hudson Bennett
Just eat healthy and drink lots of water. No alcohol.
Health issues from alcoholism often recover quite quickly and thoroughly once you stop drinking, even in some of the most severe alcoholics. Just do what you can to stop drinking so your body can heal.
Caleb Wood
>*I didn't think about it
Look man if the OPs lover is THAT bad, he was doing enough damage to warrant spending a little time on wondering what the consequences might be
Andrew Barnes
???
That honestly doesn't sound like a lot. That's not a healthy amount but when I worked as an assistant to a GP, the people I met were putting down liters a day somehow. Have you by chance thought about getting a second opinion and having someone else look at your ultrasound? Did they at least tell you what stage your fibrosis was at or order a CT? Idk OP I think you're stressing out over an incompetent doctor's diagnosis but I do agree you need to drastically cut back on liquor.
Chase Perry
Lol I'm not stupid enough to drink like an alcoholic. Dangers of alcohol are well researched. You should drink more and finish the job. World doesn't need more irresponsible wastes of flesh
Jacob Turner
I did. That's why I'm not in a stupid situation like OP. I'm healthier now at 28 than I've ever been because I do exactly that
Jacob Gomez
There's a lot of studies that correlate drinking excessively and high intelligence. The people I met didn't drink to savor the flavor or because they thought it was fun.
Chase Morris
You know a lot of things can still happen to you even in good health, right? Just because you're in a healthy state doesn't mean non-alcoholic liver failure or fatty disease can't happen to you. At least OP quit and is actively trying to do something about it. Most people just say fuck it and start drinking even more after getting bad news.
Jason Smith
I am sure every doctor is thinking about how to fuck you up otherwise they might get ridiculed during their annual illuminati conference with their old classmates (since they are all indoctrinated in university).
Nathaniel Ross
Eat foods that are easy on the liver. Try a vegan diet :)
Jose Butler
lol your doc's trying to scare you bud and clearly it worked. Have they even given you a copy of your ultrasound results or ordered a ct scan at all? If your liver damage was THAT bad the first thing they would do is get a ct scan and possibly a liver biopsy to survey the damage done. I'm glad the scare pushed you into making healthier lifestyle choices and i'm not a professional but I honestly think your doc is fucking with you or it is that bad and they have no idea what they're looking at. Either way, ask to get a referral to a liver specialist who can look at your results and recommend where you go from there.
Jeremiah Nguyen
Correlations are fairly meaningless. There's a whole website of examples of meaningless, yet significant correlations >tylervigen.com/spurious-correlations. Correlations make for weak evidence of anything.

lol good fucking luck getting your insurance company to pay for that, especially for an alcoholic. They'll call your insurance company and swiftly get a resounding "fuck no we're not paying for that."
Gabriel Diaz
Oh trust me I have plenty health problems, but they're from people who hit me with their car. Me getting hit by an idiot is not the same as you killing yourself. I'm still active despite other humans breaking me. That's why it's so particularly pathetic imo to see you bitch about something YOU did to YOURSELF.
Jason Ortiz

I had a fatty liver problem after breaking my back and spending 7 years going back and forth between painkillers and booze to deal with daily back spasms. I still drink in social occasions, but I reversed the fatty liver problem by eating loads of vegetables everyday, taking a Tbsp of apple cider vinegar in water 3 or more times per day, milk thistle, and exercise. I actually think the apple cider vinegar helped the most because it was only a couple of weeks after using that my enzymes took a major drop. I still take it everyday.
I don't think it's specifically apple cider vinegar that helps, it's vinegar in general. Here's one study on it. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24894721
Sebastian White
Roy Taylor of Newcastle University showed in a study that a 600 calorie diet for 12 weeks completely eliminated fatty liver in participants.
Jason Fung has also alluded that his patients have improved liver markers with his various fasting prescriptions.
Robert Lustig has some good material on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease which is completely indistinguishable from Alcoholic Fatty Liver (i.e. alcohol and fructose are interchangeable culprits)
I think if you read up on some of this stuff you'll easily come to the conclusion that a low carb diet which integrates intermittent fasting with a couple days of fasting a week you'll see remarkable improvements in short order.
Austin Kelly
Go on a vegan whole food diet for a month

do a high dose halotestin cycle - has been shown to be effective in reversing liver damage

It's also about genetics. My neighbor was a full blown alcoholic for 40+ years, spent most of his life getting shitfaced on a daily basis, sometimes with medicinal alcohol when he was broke. Died of lung cancer (was also a big smoker) in his mid 60s.
I'm another example of this, can outdrink all of my friends and barely get a hangover, while some of them are fucked up for 2 days straight That being said now that I'm 29 I've cut back from drinking or other drugs. It's just not as fun anymore tbqh and seeing people like OP makes it sound even less fun.
Jose Perez
The liver is the most resilient organ in the body by far and also regenerates. You'd have to be drinking far longer than you have to cause irrecoverable damage. If you don't drink for the next couple of years you will recover.
Daniel Morales
>Health issues from alcoholism often recover quite quickly and thoroughly once you stop drinking
True if you still have a healthy liver, not true for the OP. Liver fibrosis means his liver has lots of scar tissue which basically means the ability for his liver to recover from future abuse is now severely limited and any further damage will be pretty much permanent.
Healthy livers are very good at regenerating, this is how they deal with all of the bad shit in your body by 'taking the hit' and then regenerating themselves. A liver with fibrosis cannot do that effectively. Even if he stops drinking alcohol, he is still at a risk from all sorts of stuff, even too much meat, sugars various types of over the counter medicine can be very bad for him.
OP needs to listen to his doctors and do exactly what they tell him to do.
Elijah Perez
user here that has never drunk in his life.
You should first see a specialist or two, find out exactly how you can minimise damage, and obviously do the absolute basics for health, these are the best things you can do
-Sleep, 8 hours of good quality sleep a day -Eat properly, drink lots of water. -lose fat -exercise.
These are your foundation OP, stay away from all drugs and smoking.
You've only got one body, do your best with it.
Also, try telling your friends and family, they might be useful at supporting you.
Easton Jenkins
I'm a doctor and there is a medication often prescribed for fibrosis liver, ursodeoxycholic acid. Although your doctor probably hadn't started that for a reason, it might be worth asking.
