>assassination thwarted/avoided
>Caesar's invasion of Parthia carries on as planned

What happens? Parthia has a pretty long track record of humbling Roman generals. But Caesar has a long track record of invading shit(illegally), fucking great generals up, and not denying the offer of auxiliaries seriously Crassus what the FUCK were you doing.

Could it have worked?

Caesar was fucking up the Gauls, who while weren't wimpy, weren't as advanced or organized as the Romans. It was just lopsided militaries like in Colonial wars. Caesar wouldn't have done any better than other Romans in Parthia.

He should have aimed at Germania. They were like the Gauls, but even less advanced. In fact, the Gauls were kind of between the German tribes and Romans, and their roads and infrastructure allowed them to be conquored easily. The German tribes however, lacked roads and had big scary forests.

So how to defeat the forests? Maybe mass burning them down to make paths?

IIRC we has very old when he was kill, probably would have died of natural causes not long after

>invading shit(illegally)
fucking optimates i swear to god

>What happens
That is everyone's guess. The Conspirators wanted to kill Caesar before would be out of reach of everyone.
> Parthia has a pretty long track record of humbling Roman generals.
The Parthian tribes and their way of doing things was probably something that the romans were not used to. But once a roman emperor focused his efforts on crushing them, they were soundly beaten. THing is: the roman administration could never effectively rule anything beyond armenia.
The distances were just too great. So Caesar probably would go in, have his revenge, humilitate the Parthians and then go home.
Or fail and be remembered as the retard that faucked up in Parthia like crassus.

Probably the same as Napoleon going into Russia. He was good, but not invincible

If was 50 something

He did went into Germania fucked some shit up then came back and burned the bridge, his focus was to make them fear for their own territory and not go into Gaul so frequently, he wanted him to stay in their side of the Rhine, he did make notes about their culture probably prepare future invasion which was done in Augustus time only till they got btfo by Arminius. He was also the first to invade great Britain.

BTW today is 15 March, the ides of March, so let's remember Julius. Don't go into the senate today buds.

>>So Caesar probably would go in, have his revenge, humilitate the Parthians and then go home.
Honestly this is the most likely scenario, Caesar wasn't an idiot like Crassus was.

Anyone else feel wrong that we cheer on what amounts to mass murdering bandits? There's really no good guys in any of this, the world consisted of competing mass murdering bandits as well.

No.

OH and btw it still consist on this but instead of mass murder as you call it you work your whole life for some guy a suit that gets rich off you. You are a slave all the same.

There is now way the Romans could have conquered Parthia

The formation of nations is almost never pleasant. But without the ugly business, societies don’t progress.
Honestly, Gaul was a collection of shitty, backwards tribes murdering each other for centuries before Caesar entered the picture. Not to mention that they had attacked Rome in the past.
Pretending to give a fuck about some 2 millennium old tribal people might make you feel like some moral genius, but it just makes you look like a nitpicking, utopian faggot.

what the FUCK is wrong with that cunts head

There was fuck all in Germania apart from some barbarians and trees. The effort in taking it would have been better spent somewhere even remotely civilized.

>they had attacked Rome in the past
End this meme. 500 years previous a Gallic tribe in northern Italy sacked Rome, which if you bothered to learn even the slightest amount of history they were completely justified in doing. That one event didn't make it okay for Caesar to unjustly attack and conquer the entirety of Gaul when the vast majority of those tribes never did anything to Rome. It would be like the US nuking China as well as Japan for Pearl Harbour.

>backwards tribes
Another meme. Gauls had writing, currency and advanced metalworking. They weren't on the Roman's level but compared to the rest of Europe they were doing pretty damn well for themselves.

If you're going to post on a history board then at least finish high school you retard.

Yeah, no shit. It was too far away to effectively adminster, at most the Romans would have had some client states in the western portions of it. That doesn't mean that Caesar wasn't capable of humiliating their armies and getting revenge for what happened to Crassus.

>Illegal invasions
Is he referring to the fact that some of the gallic tribes Caesar annexed were already paying tribute to Rome to be left alone?

Diasporafag albo living in Rimini, Italy reporting for duty. The main square in the city centre/old town has a bronze statue of Caesar commemorating his crossing of the Rubicon river. It's actually a 1:1 scale copy, as the original is inside a local military barracks.

Should I go look for a laurel crown and place it onto his statue? Would I look like a fool for doing that (of course I would)?

The Romans did occupy Southern Germania though. Northern Germania was basically just swamps and forest. Dacia and Britain, with their rich mines and fertile soil were better choiches.

Go back to your shithole, gypsy.

N-no u.

You didn't answer my question though.

If you do that I am sure you'll have luck in your future conquests.

You must be French.

Well you advised reading so why don't you go read the gallic wars. Caesar writes very plainly and is usually praised for being clear and to the point as a writer. It also gives you a step by step account of why he did what he did in Gaul and you can argue that he was just justifying empire expansion but his reasons are rational and practical and usually are connected with preemptive attacks to avoid later confrontation, which is a tactic the Roman's employed during a long time and is pretty sound if you think about long term maintenance of lands and borders.
