I was quite fit when I first timed my 5k and it was about 24min. Took me pretty much all summer to get it to 20min.
Now given u did 2mi in 16min (or slightly sub) which is only 4min difference but a full mile more! ...go figure. However, I found that getting fit again is much easier than getting fit for the very first time, so godspeed.
