I consume around 0.8g per lb. bodyweight. I dont even supplement and I dont even look for high protein foods, I just eat healthy stuff that I like.

the thing is, its a fact that you need to eat more to grow muscles and its easy to gain fat while eating more, so if you want to have lean gains, eating more protein is optimal because protein is much harder to be stored as fat than carbs or fats
