nah I did it in front of the mirror, you can do slight adjustments to upper eyelid exposure. It feels unnatural, but hopefully it will stick as a habit eventually

I did discover this primer by a professional portrait photographer a while back. However, it's impractical for everyday life because it's really obvious outside of still photography that you're manipulating your facial muscles to hold a pose. By the same token, when you're facing the camera, you're supposed to lean forward to get a better jawline, so much so that you're craning your neck and would look ridiculous to someone standing off to the side. You'll look better from one angle at the expense of all others. That's basically the name of the game in professional photography, though.
