When the Italians declared war on the allies roughly one third of the italian merchant and shipping marine was outside of the mediteranean, ensuring they could take no part in any future war effort whatsoever.

What the fuck, Mussolini?

He was genuinely retarded. Can’t believe he held onto power for so long.

he fucked up as soon as he allied with shitler,
he should have picked someone less autistic, like franco or mosely

He should have supported Austria and never signed that gay Pact Of Steel

Mussolini was convinced that Britain would fold once France surrendered. From his point of view, the war wouldn't have lasted long enough for Italy's logistic difficulties to become an issue.
In hindsight, it was an unlikely scenario, butat the time it looked wholly plausible in light of all the weak and appeasing policies thrown Hitler's way.

There were no safe ports outside the mediteranean at all. These ships had to surrender (or die) to the first british ships they came across.

Yeah (well aside from neutrals and maybe a few harbours in east Africa and a few docks i Tianjin) but that only matters if there's a war still going on after France surrenders, which happens two weeks after the declaration of war. How many ships could actually have been taken within that 2 weeks period? Not that many, I'd guess.
Again, Mussolini gambled upon Britain not pursuing a war as the lone superpower left on the allies' side. You can criticize that gamble for sure, but it's silly to harp about all the issues that cropped up following the gamble's failure. I mean duh, that's why it was a gamble. If shit went like expected, Mussolini would have gained land left and right for a measly few weeks of combat. Totally worth it, in his opinion.

>Totally worth it, in his opinion.

I don't doubt that he thought it was worth it, but he was staring at british forces across the border in Northern africa - a situation that demanded heavy logistical support. He did not seem to have factored this in at all.

Are you missing the point on purpose? Yeah, the deck was stacked against Italy in a war that lasted more than a few weeks, but the whole point was that Mussolini thought the war wouldn't last that long. It's pointless of you to keep pointing out all the disadvantages Italy had in a confrontation with Britain. If you want to criticize Mussolini, criticize his belief that the UK would just give up after the fall of France.

>If you want to criticize Mussolini, criticize his belief that the UK would just give up after the fall of France.

He was just an all out idiot.

*histerical laughter*

Of course Mussolini was retarded. He was Italian.

>he was italian

>Muh IQ

At least it's not as retarded as saying that a man's faults and decisions were caused by his country of birth.

that's not accurate.

Italy is on 31st place with 97 as an average.

>These numbers came from a work carried out from 2002 to 2006 by Richard Lynn, a British Professor of Psychology, and Tatu Vanhanen, a Finnish Professor of Political Science, who conducted IQ studies in more than 80 countries.
The results aren't current.

i do this all the time in vicky 2 when i'm mashed

So what, the IQ in Italy shot up by 5 points in 10 years?

ok nvm looks like they did

>IQ adjusted for the Flynn effect and on recent student assessments (PISA, TIMMS).

Still quoting Lynn after 2006.

>According to a study published by Smith and Beals in 1990, based on measurements of approximately 20,000 crania from 87 populations worldwide, arctic indigenous peoples and East Asians have the biggest brains in the world, with an average volume of 1,443 cm3 and 1,416 cm3 respectively, followed by Europeans with an average volume of 1,369 cm3. Among the Europeans, Italians have the biggest brains (1,411 cm3).[32]

>quoting any IQ study ever
Even leaving aside the pointlessly small samples, the fact that they actually overtly *adjust* the results to better fit their narratives (PISA exams are a fucking joke, as anyone who took part in them could tell you) alone should be enough to make you dismiss them outright.

And what could Musolini do without Hitler and with rather being allied to weakened civil war torn Spain and fucking Mosley who held no power outside his tea cup club? Maybe taken Albania and that only if allies dont get involved

The only way fascist Italy could've survived was to ally with the allies...
oh wait, they did try to ally with them, but apparently requesting to have a bigger presence in the mediterranean was just too much for the brits, who kepts refusing such a inhumane request for two years

>criticize his belief that the UK would just give up after the fall of France.
To be fair, the bongs did give up, and submitted to the US.
