What do you consider high weight? You want high reps anyway.

Don't train your neck.
Workout your traps and deltoids and you will get that weightlifting neck.
Something that is not well known but can be very debilitating is developing sleep apnea from weight lifting - im not joking. It turns out that if the muscles surrounding the neck grow bigger than they should it has the same effect as fat surrounding the neck.
OVERLY THICK NECK MUSCLES = SLEEP APNEA
Oh I forgot to mention that yes when training delts/traps you will get a toned neck - just don't go out of your way to target it for the apnea reason.

Don't cheat with your hands if you're doing neck curls wirh a plate. You'll probably still cheat and make little to no gains. Good luck.

This. I developed sleep apnea when I was training my neck for boxing. Stopped doing neck exercises and my sleep apnea went away.
Recently started training my neck but with lower weights, so I'll see if it comes back..
