I figure do a control period of about a week where I wake up and go to bed at the same time, eat the same diet I'll be eating sans onions, and then get my T checked on the morning of the seventh day, then keep everything the same but add a raw red onion or two to my diet every day and get my T checked after like 30 days?

Can any Veeky Forumsentists comment? I might document the journey as well, would there be any interest?

30 days seems good, maybe a little short though. The original study was 20 days, but effects in rats tend to be faster

I think the friend should also take onions, to increase sample size. Control isn't really necessary, since it is known how an average males test level behaves over time

Nah, there needs to be a control for the pilot study. Given that he'll be making life style changes, like a consistent sleep routine and given that he'll be a NEET he might gym more that he normally would we would need a control just to try and eliminate those variables. Also a control would be good just for the sake of turning this into a bigger trial, which I'd be fine with running if there are decent initial findings

the problem with that is that some people could argue that your test levels could change due to things like better sleep quality or you taking better notice of your diet because of the experiment. Those changes would take more than a week to become apparent

Given your circumstance I think the best way to do things would be to give it too weeks for your "control" period then at least a month to start seeing a real difference. If you could get your blood tested once every 2 weeks that would be great.
First at the start of the "control" period
Second at the end of the control period
3rd after 2 weeks of onioning
and 4th after 4 weeks of onioning

How do you get your T checked? Do you just ask book an appointment with your GP saying you want it checked, dont you need a reason to give and how much does it cost?

UK here btw my doc doesnt even give blood tests unless you think you got diabetes or something and they dont give you the full bloodwork to look wt yourself

Step 1) Measure a baseline.
Take measurements of blood test, body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, even a journal of how you feel each day.

Step 2) Work out a method.
Try and keep your variables as constant as possible throughout the trial. Measure how much onion you eat every day. Ideally this would be raw red onion, potentially in a salad/meal, about 1g/1kg of body mass. State how long you'll be trying this for. Also, DO NOT take roids, any new supplements, or any new exercise routines. You want to be carrying on as normal with the only change being onions.

Step 3) Record your measurements.
Daily seems like overkill, but a weekly measurement of fat percentage, muscle mass, mood (journal), and blood test levels if you can would all be great. You can then compare them to your pre-Onion data.

Report back to us with your data.

And now after reading all these fucking onion threads, I remember I was eating 1/2 to a whole onion every single day with my chicken breast because it meant I could add a bunch of taste for only 20-40 calories. After I started eating more (which was the same time I stopped feeling amazing) my onion consumption dropped dramatically since I had more variety in what I could eat.

Maybe it wasn't the onion but that was one pretty big difference that I never considered. Maybe this isn't a meme.

If you haven't been eating raw onions regularly then I'd say so. You could take daily measurements if you wanted more rigorous data. Hell you could do morning, afternoon, evening, if you wanted to be thorough.
Because this is a preliminary study, I'd not make it too much work as there's a risk of burning out and not being able to finish the trial. If you can't get blood testosterone measurements (check for a kit online perhaps) then AT LEAST get fat% and lean muscle mass, and a journal of how you feel. Energy levels throughout the day, libido, motivation.

Your test will likely raise from having a consistent sleep schedule and diet. Follow the same routine without onions, record your biometrics, then add onions and continue your routine. Good luck
