So I've been maintaining 80kg and a pretty lean body with abs for about 3 years now (6 years lifting in total), just maintaining gains. During those years I also walked EVERY SINGLE DAY for a minimum of 1 hour.

About 4 months ago I read on Veeky Forums a debate about cardio, and whether WALKING burns any calories/helps you get lean. The general concensus of the thread was that WALKING DOESN'T DO ANYTHING FOR FAT LOSS/BURNING CALORIES, and that you should be running, or not doing it at all.

So it made me think perhaps I was wasting my time doing my old-man 1 hour long walks everyday and that I could spend that time sitting at home instead catching up on TV or playing a game. Fast-forward 4 months of no walking and I've literally gained 5 kilograms of bodyfat, without changing my calorie in-take. So it's pretty fucking obvious that walking does in-fact burn calories enough to the point where it's noticeable and walking DOES infact help you keep fat off.

I'm returning to my 1hour+ night walks tonight and can't wait to get this 5kg off fat off that I gained in the last 4 months.

Never listen to anyone on here that says "Hurrr walking doesn't do anything for fat loss, you have to run hurrr". Fuck you.

First off walking still burns calories you fucking idiot, I think what you interpreted was something like HIIT can burn more calories then just plain old walking. So by not burning those calories and still eating the same amount as when you were of course your going to gain weight

The reason I have been walking every single day is because I just assumed if I burned even just 250 calories by walking for at least 60 minutes that after 1 year that is 91,250 calories being expended, which equals to 13 KILOGRAMS or 28 POUNDS.

I was happily maintaining 80kg with a 6 pack on the calorie intake I had with lifting + walking 1 hour per day 365 days a year.

Then you Veeky Forums faggots convinced me that my logic is incorrect and that no walking does 0 for me.

They are right thou, running and HIIT in general burns way more calories than just walking. Obviously this doesn't mean that you should never walk, just that if you are some kind of retarded life min-maxer you could spend the hour you spend on walking on something more potent. Then again you probably aren't a robot trying to optimize every single second of your life (for example you are browsing fucking Veeky Forums) so just do whatever you feel like, but it is good to know that activity A burns more or less calories than activity B.

Walking running or jogging uses the same calories on the SAME distance.
Of course it's faster to run or jog, but it's still the same calories used as walking if in each case you travel the same distance.

Are you an idiot? Any form of activity burns calories. Even sitting on your ass watching TV does. However, getting up and walking gets your heart rate up (not much but more than resting) thus making it do more work. What does your body do when it needs to do more work? Raise the heart rate. What happens when you raise yoyr heart rate due to work? You burn more calories.

Well no shit you gained weight. Though you should be at least power walking or running. Get that heart rate ramped up. You'll notice more gains due to capillarization as long as you do not overdo it. Lets say you burn 200 calories walking for an hour. You burn that much doing two miles.

Distance running isn't hard once your body gets use to it.

It only takes about 4-5 running sessions before your body can basically begin to be able to run non-stop, with the only thing holding you back is joint pain.

I almost never do distance, and it takes me about two weeks to get back to being able to run 12K ez, no stress, not even breathing hard by the end.

(1 * 200 * 30 * 4) / 3500 = ~ 6.8 lbs = ~ 3 kg

Walking is good because you can do it forever. No one can lift weights all day, no one can run all day without significant training, but if you have a ton of extra time, walking will give you a huge boost in calories burned.
