It sucks that he might've not wanted to die, but putting other people's lives at risk for attention is not really someone I pity too much. The fact the rescue team had to setup a rope and harness to pull him up rather than just pulling him up by his arms suggests he was resisting help.

Have any of you even rescued a fucking animal? Never mind a human. The most important criteria is a willingness to act.

After that, the right attitude. Which will in turn lead you to want to be prepared (mostly understanding and expereince using equipment). Being able to 'lift' as all you guys call it, isn't worth shit in 90% of real life situations. Sure it can (and I beleive, should) suppliment other training, but if you wanted a guy on a harness and rope to help you, you'd pick the expereinced DYEL climber over a fucking 8 scooper with no shoulder mobility.

And this isn't the only form of rescue. What about firemen? Those need to be quite strong too to even do their job.

i feel much worse for the rescue worker who has to live out his life believing he failed his job and was responsible for another man's death. i don't know what caused the rope and harness to drop, but trying to catch and a secure a grown man who just dropped 10-15 feet by the arms is a total lost cause, especially when you're swinging around in air on a rope. imagine the inertia of the man falling and the lack of grip.

the attention whore clearly had to have escalated the situation to the point of dangling from a ledge. if you want to live, cooperate with the people trying to help you at the risk of their own lives and sanity (the latter of which has probably been compromised).
