Any military people here? What’s your branch/ MOS? How has the military affected your level of Veeky Forums? Do you even have time to lift while in the military?

Please reply

0612 went in weighing about 140 came out weighing about 200 lbs im only 5 8 im the prince of all saiyans

11B, but nasty girl. Best of both worlds

Not as big as you'd think because endurance is valued more. You can only be SO strong, but actual soldiering requires high stamina aka CARDIO.

Im an 11B too lets fuck

Yea I’m aware of that. All of the best bodybuilders and powerlifters do cardio.

>All of the best bodybuilders and powerlifters do cardio.
10 mile runs every day cardio. Not 20-30 mins on the threadmill.

Strapping on 80-100 lbs of kit and marching for 8 miles cardio.

*in the blazing hot sun
*while in combat
*with shitty MREs

I don’t plan on going infantry or special forces so after boot camp I don’t think I’ll have to do that very often

>What’s your branch/ MOS?
Air Force, we call our jobs AFSCs. I'm a 2M0X2, nuclear missile maintainer. I don't really enjoy it, it sounds cool and having a top secret clearance is supposedly good for the outside world but I don't know. I think I'm gonna keep killing it in the gym for the next 5 years, then try and go special forces like TACP or Raven or something.

>How has the military affected your level of Veeky Forums?
Was a lanklet before I joined. Having buddies who lift got me into it.

>Do you even have time to lift while in the military?
I personally get about 6 hours of personal time a day. So yeah, usually spend about 2 in the gym and the rest doing whatever.

lmao fucking POGs
Why even join the army if you don't want to be infantry or SF? Unless you're a fuck up, you can have a way better career in the civilian world

>I don’t think I’ll have to do that very often

>special forces
>TACP or Raven or something
pick one you fucking pog nerd

>Why even join the army if you don't want to be infantry or SF?
Benefits? What kind of a dumb question is that.

>Fuckin POGs!
I do wish I would've gone infantry or something. Honestly though with the way things currently are with the branches getting cucked and gutted I kind of am glad I didn't.

There’s plenty of reasons to join the military other than being a retard with a rifle and a superiority complex

Special Operations*
God I fucking hate you fags, yeah you're so high and mighty. Muh military knowledge bluh bluh bluh suck a dick.

Any other army bros max their pt test without trying?

Depending on what branch he joins, he is right. I'm Air Force and I've literally not had to do any rucking/shooting/hiking or anything since BMT.

At the same time I hate being a POG. Working with women is terrible though from what I understand the infantry deals with that now too.

Neither of those two are even special operations.

Joining the military for benefits is the saddest reason. Especially if you're going active duty and not reserve.
If you're going to join, have a real reason. All the "benefits" are much better in the civilian world, which tends to also pay a lot more than the military, unless you're a no education, no prospects kind of guy.

>from what I understand the infantry deals with that now too
I have yet to see a single woman in the infantry. I know they exist, but I've never seen one or known anyone that has worked with one.

>Neither of those two are even special operations.
Yes they fucking are. Who is retarded now you fucking retard? Look it up it is literally at your finger tips.

>If you're going to join, have a real reason
Benefits IS a reason. You act like everyone has high paying, clocked out jobs at their disposal straight out of college (if college is even an option). I knew grunts were dumb but holy shit dude, what do they test top secret brain cell frying weapons on you faggots while you march around sucking each other's cocks?

Not a yank. Recruit Training beasts you to hignlevels of fitness without you even realising.
Once out of the factory you take a bit of a hit on your cardio but your “Rucking” or yomping goes up, aswell as your mindset that you can just crack on with anything. Literally go on the piss and drink enough to sink a battleship and wake up 0600 the next day for a 50 mile “ruck”.

Having time to lift depends on your unit, your operational tempo and facilities. You won’t always have a gym. So you have to adapt, the majority of stuff you train is usually circuits because it’s quick, easy to set up and you go do it anywhere with minimal kit.

After the military, it suffers unless you train hard at it. But you if your from an infantry role, your back and knees are fucked. So you have to constantly train around injuries.

No they aren't, TACP are not SOF. They be selected to join 17th STS, which is attached to the armies 75th Ranger Regiment, but that doesn't really quality them as "special operations," and even if it did, that is only a couple TACPs. Phoenix Raven aren't part of SOF either, they are just a bunch of Security Forces, who's only purpose is to babysit aircraft.

>I knew grunts were dumb but holy shit dude, what do they test top secret brain cell frying weapons on you faggots while you march around sucking each other's cocks?
I'm not even a grunt, but you seem salty

>tfw permanent vague back injury that can't be diagnosed or treated
>tfw can never squat again
On the bright side, my arms and shoulders are godly after being molded by hours of repair duty

Oh my bad man, I forgot you were the one who decides what qualifies something as special ops. The Air Force doesn't decide, you do.

>I'm not even a grunt
Then what are you? Seeing as how you're shitting on two of the most elite AFSCs we have, I'd hope you're a fucking ranger recon super solider mother fucker typing to me on a bulgarian image forum from deep behind enemy lines in some unheard of country. Fucking idiot. Not salty, just hate retards who shit on stuff they A) don't know about (as you've demonstrated) and B) are probably butter sucking POGs who've never even seen any shit but act like they are a badass because they wear a uniform.

lmao, a bunch of soyboys in this thread about how they totatlly would have been special forces bro but they would not have made it through basic or they would have knocked a drill sergeant out lol. You are all hilarious

>Oh my bad man, I forgot you were the one who decides what qualifies something as special ops. The Air Force doesn't decide, you do.
No, USSOCOM decides. Not me, not the airforce. Under AFSOC, only CCT, Pararescue and SOWT are labeled special operations.

Whether I'm a ranger recon navy seal or not, as you said yourself,
>Look it up it is literally at your finger tips

also
>two of the most elite AFSCs we have
lmao, TACP is the same thing as an FO in the army, for planes instead of artillery. A glorified radio operator. The other fags... lmao they do about as much security as mall cops.

No one tells em u have to be at LEAST 6 foot tall to even be considered for it

Army 11C, PT done at gym none of that gay PRT shit.

>.I'm a 2M0X2, nuclear missile maintainer
I remember scanning you guys during random security checks when I was stationed at Malmstrom. Most people give off 1-2 rads, but you guys would give off 30-40 rads. I understand why, of course. Sometimes we'd have contests on who can find the most rads on a single airman. Winner would get a free soda.

>"PT done at gym"

sure senpai

It could be worse. Security Forces women are bottom-tier.

Too cold to PT outside so the whole fucking installation crams into the gym

I usually just cram into my bed for PT

Before I enlisted everyone was telling me about all the muscle they packed on in basic. I was tired of being a skinny bean pole and loved hearing that I'd gain "at least 10lbs of lean mass, private!"

It was all bullshit, of course.

I dropped from 190 to 174 in 10 weeks. There was nothing I could do. You don't get the portions or the time to match calorie expenditure.

After you graduate BCT you can regain control over your diet and lift when you find time. But then you realize you're still in the fuckin military.

It depends on deployment. Pretty much a loop of make gains lose gains. This said even at my worst level of fitness I am fitter than nearly all my non-millitary friends. It's a different style of fitness that seems to just keep you at a good level

MOSSACK! DISHA, DISHA.

Meanwhile the Russians are sleeping in snow. What a pathetic military yours must be

Yes. USAF. Fighter Jet Avionics Specialist. I'm slightly more in shape than normal skinny fats. When you work a 12 hour job like I do, you learn to sacrifice some stuff in life in order to make it to the gym. Like a social life.

Army Cook. Did 4 yrs in the 82nd and now a nasty grill. It was hard as fuck for me to lift due to my shit ass work schedule. Got real gains once I got out. My last National Guard unit had a 60% PT failure rate. Nasty grills fucking suck.

USAF
1C8X3 - Radar Airfield and Weather Systems technician

My shop goes to the gym together every day as part of the work day. There is the option to not go, but you have to stay in the office and do paperwork.

This introduced me to lifting, which led me to Veeky Forums. My overall Veeky Forumsness level has vastly improved as a result.

>PT done at gym

USAF 2A3X3

its

USAF 1n331h
Korean linguist
I'm still in tech school even though I've been in for over a year at this point. My report no later than date for my first duty station is in November of this year.

Also fuck Korea. The whole peninsula is communist, even the more conservative ones in SK. Their solution to everything is to throw govt money at the problem.

I'm still in university, going for a double major in comp sci and stats, along with some computer network and security certifications, and I've also been learning Mandarin

I've been thinking about joining USAF after I graduate, will that combination of skills land me a good position, or would I be better off in the civilian world? Money is important to me, but I care more about helping my country

USMC 0671
Most definitely a pog but I've still deployed so it's all good plus I love the mos. Extreme skellington before I joined and for about the first year, been lifting for over a year now.

I saw several failed linguists come through my tech school. Given RAWS school wad about 6 months long (10 months now), almost all of them sewed on SrA IN TECH SCHOOL. Bloody ridiculous, I'd hate to still be NPS 28 months in...

你的中文怎么样?

我的中文马马虎虎。我学习了一年。

0326 Recon

Was fit before I got in, as fit if not more fit now. I have plenty of free time to lift currently. It varies.

There’s a military enlistment general over on /k/

Do you do any aesthetic shit, or purely functional things that will aid you?

祝你好运!

Pretty much just functional things I guess. I like deads and squatting the most, and a ton of cardio. I also do curls, but thats it.

Enlisted naval IT. Fuck small crew sea duty.

0861 I got leaner, wanna get bigger. But MRE's are shit for your diet and the only thing i can lift in the field are rocks

That's totally untrue, literally Google it. 5'8"-5'10" is average for special forces. Which makes sense as you need high endurance, not high strength.

Ever hear of the smurf team in BUD/S? They put all the manlets together so that they are all equal height. Average height is usually 5'7". They're almost never last place.

military is a meme, its heavily romanticized

former actual infantry, not from the land of burger

谢谢!

I'm debating between joining the military or getting a formation to work in security

I’m 5’ 8” and every special forces guy I’ve met was at least 5 inches taller than me. Then again I’ve only met like 20 out of a few thousand

68K POG king here. PRT is bullshit, but I did manage to stack on a few pounds in Basic simply by dint of being a spooky skeleton going in.

USMC/2841
In my last unit being fit was valued highly and everyone lifted or was left to languish in RCP hell until they killed themselves
New unit (I-I duty) is fat and disgusting

I want to travel and put some order in my life, would joining the army give me that?

i fly fighters for the USAF.

deployed right now, and doing TM + a lot of running since sitting in an uncomfortable cockpit for hours on end isn't great for your shoulders and back. best shape i've been in for a while since i have nothing to do on my off time. food sucks though.

back at home station, queep and life tend to cut into my workout time since it's so much harder to justify 90-120 minutes doing volume day on TM when i've had a 12-14 hour day already.

For sure. Those are two good reasons to join. Just make sure you have a reasonably high bullshit tolerance.

Army nurse, enlisted LPN. 12 hour shifts get in way of lifting, but I also work like 2 days then get 2 days off. Essentialy work half the month, though I have to do random shit on every day off so it doesnt matter.

We profoundly half ass our PT here. One day of group PT a week after shift, but its just you and the 2 or 3 other enlisted who were on shift and its at 8pm and there's no leadership around so half the time we don't do it kek. I just lift and run on days off or sometines after work.

By order do you mean having an unreasonably high tolerance for dumb shit and stupidity, and learning how to do everything the easiest and laziest way possible before sitting on your ass for hours on end?

If so, the army is perfect for you!

(Unless you go Special Operations)

Canadian Armed Forces MP, we have an hour of each shift for PT, but depending on your workload you might not get that hour and just have to workout on your own time. In a lot of branches there isn't much point to trying to get big, even if you can get the time and nutrition in, throw in a couple weeks of being sleep deprived and eating MREs in the field and your gains will be worthless and fade away when you're doing long rucks and runs

USAF 2e3x1

Was neet before I joined, so was a fat shit playing tons of WoW before I went to basic. Lost some weight of course, now have been doing a full body m/w/f 5x5 split making solid gains. All coworkers in my shop do an arm day/chest day/ etc bro split. One was deployed for 6+ months and ll he did was lift on his free time, and he came back looking exactly the same. I don't like them too much, so it's pretty funny to watch them spam isolations on machines.

we put up a whiteboard with your squat/bench/DL on it so you can get motivated to work out downrange.

That would be cool, but there's 3 people in the shop total who deadlift or squat.

open it up to others in similar career fields if needed. if in doubt, ask nicely to work out with the fire department or the cops and throw up your stats there.

WTF does that AFSC do anyway?

I prefer to train solo honestly. Easier to focus.

Pavements and heavy equipment operator, we fall under CE. We do concrete and asphalt, and operate dump trucks/dozers/loaders etc.

I wanna join because I've heard they take out the pussy out you. But I don't wanna fight with sandniggers and die for zog.

I feel like I'm the only one who hated that fucking rice. It was even worse cold.

i lift by myself too, but i put my totals up since i'm a competitive person and i'll be damned if i don't get my rookie numbers up.

and the whiteboard with our totals is in the CE/Fire Department gym.

coast guard here

lmaoing at all you losers.

The language skills could definitely get you a better paying job in the civilian world. The biggest bonus of being a military linguist is having the clearance cause it costs like 10 Grand to get one.

>coast guard
So you basically you drive a boat in circles and pretend to be the navy

0311/USMC
I'm in the field 3 weeks out of every month or off at a school.
The times I'm in the rear I'm doing never ending rosters on my squad.
I'd warn against the idea that you'll
be bodybuilding if you are a grunt. You really have to make the time to work on your body even then it's hard to maintain much.
Deployments are usually good for lifting though.

hello puddle pirate what do you even do

all these fucking POGs in the thread green with envy... I was 0311 and any real grunt will tell you theres too much bullshit cardio to keep gains and the schedule is less than ideal for hitting the gym. 90% of the grunts i was in with were lanky fuckers that could outhike anyone 170+. the other were big fucks genetically and no amount of cardio would make them smaller

Some do it out of patriotism, and realize that, believe it or not, logistics is very important to the military.

I know that feel. In SF your social life is pretty much your co-workers. The only thing that pissed me off was the workout equipment in AFT facilities were always broken, weights scattered, and weights disappearing because stupid kids would drop plates into people's bag as a joke.

>Wanted to join as a clerk
>Got sick and had to bail out a couple of days in

I never even get sick either, literal bullshit. Thinking about asking if I can try again, but I was cranky as fuck and accidently threatened a doctor.

I had a friend that became a A-10 pilot. Is it true that most of the time you're just going over checklists while flying?

>be a pussy
should probably just stay away

Security Forces or Special Forces?

it depends. for an attack, we have weapons employment checklists to make sure we're properly set up for the attack - our weapons are properly set up, our aircraft is set up, and we've got appropriate clearances and scans of the target area from the ground commander. and for any emergency, we're getting out the checklist. but with time in the jet, you stop relying on the checklist for things like ground ops, takeoff, landing, after landing, climb check, descent check, ops check, etc. since you've done them so much.

checklists are there so you don't forget things 96.9% of the time, the other it's so you can fix what's broken and take the EP to a logical conclusion (or back up your wingman when they have an EP).

there's little to no crew coordination in a fighter, though since there's at most 2 dudes. heavies with bigger crews need tighter checklist discipline.

USMC 0861
I’m a lot more fit now and I’m in extremely good health except for my knees and back

Roger that, thanks user.

Combat medic, British army
Good for cardio, alright for lifting. Our gyms are usually great. Going to the field/last minute taskings regularly fuck any sort of routine unfortunately.

Security Forces

>coast the open seas
