because he's a 65 year old geezer who never had to diet to lose weight. no one's arguing that you have to do a keto diet to maintain a healthy weight- that's achievable through many other means. but to lose weight effectively, keto is the absolute best diet because it's quite literally using up your fat storage cells for energy

So right now I am eating a good balance of everything, usually around 35% Carb 40% Protein and 25% Fat average but at a 1000 calorie deficit.

I am down to 208lbs and 31.5% body fat from 233lbs and 34% bodyfat in around 3 months. Whether its just because christmas came, I am not sure, but I have maintained weight for the last 2/3 weeks now.

Should I try out a keto diet?
Currently I don't do much exercise. I hike when the weather is better than pouring rain but I live in the UK so in these winter months thats hard to get. I do a few squats when I have time, havn't done any pressups for a while, either way its its hard to get a solid routine going.

I have tried the gym in the past, but the times i can go are either 5am or 7pm onwards and the local gyms i have (i have tried 3 of the 5) were all heavily used at those times and I couldn't do the planned routines on the days I had planned, so i would end up skipping some over the week and/or leaving early so it was pointless going.

So currently, I have diet alone. Will I be able to get down to my target of 180lbs

Select a calorie deficit, eat around 0.7g/lb bodyweight of protein, eat 25g+ fiber everyday (spinach/turnip greens/avocados are good choices), no more than 20g of "impact carbs", and fill the rest in with fat (avoid saturated fats, monounsaturated > polyunsaturated > saturated). Continue to lift or run (within reason, liver can only produce so many ketones), cut any sort of HIIT training though. Combine with OMAD or IF/prolonged fasting to maximize adherence. Diet drinks are OK but you should ween off of it unless it is absolutely critical for adherence because of cephalic induced insulin response, stick with water. Eat more sodium and potassium (avocados/spinach have plenty) or sweating can quickly bring you to your knees and cause the keto flu, additionally supplement a multivitamin anyway because of both water and fat loss. Do not do keto permanently but your energy should be very good on keto regardless.

Lost around 60lbs on keto+OMAD in 5 months then got on a more sustainable diet, put on 10lbs on muscle over the rest of the year and now can sn 105kg, cnj 135kg, sq 175kg.

You lost 11% body mass and only 3% bf, you should do a calisthenics routine (even just puhsups, abs and squats) to have some muscle so you feel well. And your metabolism will become faster too. I used to roll for pushups (or create a thread if there's none) several times a day and do the 8 min. Ab workout once a day and i lost 20 lbs and looked pretty good after 3-4 months. My diet was good too, but nothing fancy ( high protein, low calories but i didnt count them)
