Injury question:

I had attempted starting strength in the past, and after a few days I hurt my lower back. Specifically the lower right side, right above my butt. It felt like I pulled something. Anyway I let myself heal for like 2 weeks, and after that I fell off the wagon for a bit, only lifting off and on. My lower back kept subtly hurting in the background a little bit whenever I worked out. Anyway it had been a week since I started to work out and I started feeling better. My lower back very subtly hurts sometimes, but I saw a chiropractor for it and he didn't say anything even after checking the area. Anyway, I started SS back up today and it hurts again. I'm pretty pissed and feel like just waiting for it to heal isn't gonna work. Any suggestions?

This comment's OP here. A clarification I should have mentioned is that I said by saying it had been 1 week, I meant 1 week since I stopped working out lower back again.

Do you know if you felt it after squats or deadlifts? If its a sharp pain in the center of your back shortly after you do the lift it will be the spine itself, but if its just a tightness to the right of your spine like you said, its probably just the spinal erectors; they feel a bit different to regular doms, more like a 'tightness' since there only job is isometric.

At the least it would pay to video yourself squatting to see if your pelvis internally rotates below parallel and if you arch your back deadlifting without knowing it

In reality, the answer to pretty much any fitness related question is going to be "it depends". So as long as you understand that there's a bit more nuance to everything and nothing is black and white, the sticky is a good starting point.

You can get good gains with a couple of relatively heavy rocks and a tree limb.

I've been doing GLSP for 3-4 months now and after reading the book thought I'd give starting strength a try (minus the food part), but I don't know where to start with it since the program adds in the power cleans and stuff like chinups after a few weeks

You could, but why do you want to switch programs? GSLP isn't really any worse than SS. If you're stalling on GLSP, maybe it's time for an intermediate program like madcow 5x5.

....what the fuck are you talking about? 1/2/3/4 is the number of plates for OHP, Bench, Squat, and Deadlift respectively.

It's a number that lots of folks like to try and hit for a good metric of status.

I haven't cut myself for 3 months now I think. I've changed my diet around... I've been going to the gym. I've been putting in a lot of effort to better my overall health for 3 months now, with a lot of success. But this past week has been challenging. I am really trying not to fall into a cutting binge, but I feel like soon I won't be able to stop myself. I worked out today/yesterday and pushed myself a little harder to get my mind off things, but I'm laying in bed anyway, typing this out on my phone, hoping that venting will ease my mind.

Anyone else struggle with self harm? And does working out normally work for you? If it doesn't, what did you do?
