They went full on hard science fiction as opposed to a gritty war story that happens to be set in a sci fi universe. The focus is on the Forerunners and weightier stuff like humanity's role in the galaxy instead of a tighter story about fighting for survival. It's less comfy.
I love it but I can see why a lot of fans of the Bungie games would be turned off.

It's hard for me to express my rage and hatred towards 343 for ruining my favorite franchise. It's even greater than the feelings I have toward EA for buttfucking every other goddamn franchise (Mass Effect, Battlefield, Battlefront, Dragon Age) that I used to love.
I guess it all happened at a good time for me though, I needed to grow out of video games and the nu-male faggots that took over the industry did a great job of shoo-ing me out the door.
