Your weight may go up, while your waistline goes down.
Also weight can fluctuate a lot from one day to another, so I prefer to take my morning weight as I get up, write it down, and summarize it at the end of the week as an average.

The HAES argument that "most diets don't work" is idiocy beyond words.

I'm an ex-alcoholic and ex-smoker. I come from a family of alcoholics and a history of mental disease (myself included). Basically all the odds were against me.

But by the HAES logic, I should not only just give up and keep smoking and drinking - but everybody around me would be obligated to find my hangovers, vomiting, trashcan breath, failing social obligations, etc... inspiring, powerful, marvelous, sexy... Yep, I was nothing short of a role model to look up to.

There was a study done (pretty sure I've seen a picture posted here before) that proved obese people under reported their caloric intake and over reported their daily exercise while claiming it was impossible for them to lose weight.

Figure out how many calories your body needs to maintain it's current weight (there are plenty of online calculators available for this) and then eat less than that and you will lose weight.

I'm not trying to validate the excuses of weak-willed fatties in any way but I'm genuinely curious about something-

Is there any truth to the idea of "set point"?

Not the idea that your size is entirely determined by genetics, but the idea that some people need less food than others to really "feel full"?

After all, if I could eat whatever I wanted and never gain weight, I would probably eat 3-4000 calories of junk food most days desu. But I know people who struggle to eat 2000 calories a day and seem genuinely full.

I know a lot of it is to do with what you are used to eating and that you can stretch your stomach over time to be able to fit more food and that will change when you feel full. But then again I also know people who eat extremely healthy for most of their lives and have great bodies to show for it, but when they want to they are able to put away a LOT of junk food as well.

Is any of that genetically determined?

That's exactly what I do and it's been working great. I have a cup of black coffee in the morning and then eat a 300 calorie snack for "lunch" around 1-2 PM.

Then a ~1000 calorie dinner around 11 PM about an hour before bed because I fucking hate feeling hungry when I'm trying to sleep. I'm down 80 lbs so far. 30 more to go to get to my goal.

I have a chubby friend. She is a nurse, in particular, she works with diabetic patients, suggest them diets etc.

I asked her why she is chubby knowing all that, she is active and she doesn't eat junk food as far as I know. I hanged out a bit with her over couple days.

Every social activity revolves around drinking and eating. Going to Italian restaurant for dinner, going out for a beer right after, brunch the next day, beer and pizza on Sunday.
