OP, do cable crunches at the end of every workout. 3x12-15. Squeeze as hard as you can at the apex of every rep. You have to target the abdominals directly, and use weights to build the muscles.

I always considered planks and shit to be useless since they're all centered around endurance, holding poses for a long time or doing a shitton of reps.

I don't work any other muscle in my body by doing 50+ reps or by holding a squat at parallel for a minute so why would I do it with abs.

Instead I just do weighted core work that I can only rep out like 8-12 times per set.

isometrics are more for cns activation and grow very compact muscle compared to mass building stuff. Doing just one isometric through is invariably going to be shit though
