because there are things in life you cant control and times in life you cant control things (education, health). There are also things which work best being controlled publically either for accountability or logistical reasons (police/ military and roads/utilites respectively).

Training in the gym isn't much at all about luck, a little bit sure because we all screw up very occasionally and risk injury. Real life includes significantly more uncontrollable risk so doing well isn't just about working hard it's also partly about being lucky. Because of this there's a moral obligation from people who work hard AND get lucky to support people who might work just as hard but who have been less lucky. Not wanting to do this just makes you a shit head, too stupid to get it or just ignorant of and not ready to accept reality. Lots of people fall into those 3.

Note there's nothing wrong with not wanting to support people who aren't willing to work hard and improve themselves and balancing helping those who genuinely deserve it rather than the malingerers is the issue, not whether any aid should be given.
