A few minutes

mindfulness "meditation" is actually incredibly helpful because it's something humans are supposed to naturally do, but are deprived of thanks to smart phone and other tech

but yeah most meditation is a complete meme

Usually about The 3 minute mark for me

Quit porn and Veeky Forums and you won't need it.

Extra good vibes to your general direction

at first you'll notice some gains, then you'll plateau and probably quit as your expectations grow and the gains slow down.

After a few months you'll notice you are more irritable and easily distracted, then you'll go back to meditation and realize how beneficial it is.

It takes a few false starts. after 100 days of disciplined practice you will be well blessed

Gradualism

> it's something humans are supposed to naturally do
please explain

I'm a complete beginner to this meditation stuff. I've been using guided meditation videos to get me started.
Is this useful or should I get started with meditation using a different method?

>mindfulness
That is just shitty zazen. And besides, only a Buddha can do zazen.

Trips don't lie

it's just the act of sitting there for 5-10 minutes and paying attention to your body and your surroundings. just focus on every sound you can hear, look at every object, etc.

Guided meditations are fine to get you started. They get you into the habit of doing it. Doesn't really matter the method really as long as it makes you relax.

What are benefits of it?
Actually just sitting in place and listening surroundings sounds easier than concentrating on breath or "oomms".

Why don't you find out?

;)

I did 5 minutes for 5 days and i think i can already feel better, for example, i said something in a whatsapp group and didnt think about what others would think, i just said it, and i feel like im chill, more peaceful

You should not approach meditation from a gains/never enough perspective. Meditate and be aware of how you feel, where you are, and your thoughts. Nothing more.

Instead of being trapped in thought you align your perception with whats actually happening and effectively become more connected with whats happening around you

Idk the first time I meditated I reached a state where the only thing I could perceive was my own body. The rest of the universe did not excist. It really changed my outlook on life

Benefits I've noticed:

>More euphoria just randomly throughout the day, doesn't matter what I'm doing
>I laugh more
>I really get into music
>More energy throughout the day
>I check myself all the time. For example, I'm waiting in line and notice myself thinking "wtf is taking so long" and I immediately remind myself that this kind of negative thinking is useless and I don't really mind standing here a bit longer
>I sleep better
>I enjoy my surroundings and find myself just appreciating nature
>I have way more appreciation for people, my opportunities, my genetics, everything
>I very rarely get irritated, goes back to the fact that I check myself

And of course, there's the immediate calm and centered feeling after every meditation session

Oh, and I do around 20 minutes of silent meditation each day and I'll occasionally add another 20-40 minutes of meditation with some repetitive background music.

>Thanks to my autism I've really gotten into listening to gregorian chant on loop during my music meditation
>Makes me feel like a disciplined templar ready for battle

Name / link of Gregorian chanting you listen to? Sounds intriguing

when you reflect on your life before meditating, and see an increase in quality of life compared to when you did start meditating

This is a good one

Meditation is a meme, but it's actually pretty good if you're a physicalist. In my case I can get the same benefits of meditation by intention alone, so I don't do it.

/SNORE

>mindfulness "meditation"
Explain please. Legit curious

Really simple. Sit in typical meditation pose, close eyes and focus on external stuff such as your breathing, noises, bodily feelings (hot, cold, heartbeat, whatever).

If you get any thoughts, let them pass without judgement, such as "Wtf thoughts keep popping up in my head, i suck" and bring your focus back on the external stuff.

Do this for 5min the first day, and gradually increase the amount of time untill you reach 30min-1h or more.

Ah like that.
>If you get any thoughts, let them pass
This is what stopped me with previous attempts. The thoughts distract me too much.

Is guided meditation a meme or do some work?

Well, sounds obvious.

Woah woah man thanks for simplifying it lol.

Welp, that's basically the skill you get out of it by training. Being able to let thoughts pass. Getting distracted is normal, it will get better.

You are not going to notice them because the changes are gradual. They are still happening though, it's scientifically proven.
