Pretty much every wrestling, judo or BJJ coach will tell you to do a modified Oly style routine, compound lifts, core lifts and accessories. Bench, squat, dead, clean, OHP

Do stronglifts until you can do 2x/1.5x/1.25x/.75x, then switch to 5/3/1 twice a week.

Anyway, be a man and do an actual Martial Art that works

Attached: volkovvswerdum.webm (1280x720, 2.93M)

Learn to box, you fuckstain.

Hip thrusts and heavy rows. Don't stop rowing heavy. Single arm dumbbell bench press. If you're squatting or deadlifting do sumo. Weighted pull ups. Rotational work like landmine twists or half kneeling cable press. Some neck work would probably help as well. Also do yoga if you can, bjj can have a heavy toll on your body.

Any kind that makes you stronger. Strength is strength, at the end of the day. If you're pressed for time, heavy deadlifts & overhead press + some abs would cover all your bjj needs

>Almost gets submitted by a 40 year old
>Wow Jiujitsu is so garbage

What else did I expect from Veeky Forums?

Imagine paying $200 a month to do a "martial art" that requires you to start on the ground

You might as well apprentice under the Goatse guy and hope to disgust potential attackers by presenting your cavernous colon to them.

Why is faggot dryhumping allowed in mma? What happened to the actual fighting? Is kickboxing not homosexual enough for you cocksuckers? Did you think wrestling didn't give enough sweaty man on man action? Explain why people think this is a legitimate fighting style.

>not understanding the literal roots of MMA

Inoki vs Ali was the root of MMA. BJJ was shilled by the UFC in the early days by putting Royce against cans.

Attached: n-aliinoki-a-20160608-870x768.jpg (870x768, 74K)

MMA as we know it would literally not exist without the shilling from the Gracies. If you'd rather watch Inoki vs Ali, then go right ahead, but don't turn around and tell me that it's than what we have now.

>Ken Shamrock and Gerard Gordeau are cans

Nice one.

As a current semi-pro fighter with aspirations to go pro, GOOD FUCKING LUCK taking fighting seriously without grappling or BJJ experience. It's not as prevalent in the UFC anymore because everybody trains to a competitive level at it, so it becomes negligible as an automatic kill switch like it was in the early UFC. Not having experience with it will cause you to get obliterated though.

As for lifting it was aforementioned. Modified oly compound lifts with accessories like calisthenics. I like to jump rope in between sets.

God my formatting is atrocious, I'm a bit buzzed

BJJ was good when no one knew what it was. Now that every MMA fighter has at least rudimentary knowledge of submission defense, its the phenomenal strikers who will again dominate.

Lmao did you watch the fight or are you too busy sucking your senseis cock? Volkov was never in any real danger, sorry you got scammed but unless you learn to BOX and WRESTLE and FIGHT LIKE A MAN youre going to keep getting beaten up by bullies

>thinks taking the back is almost a submission
>didn't even have the one arm around the neck for a RNC
>thinks going for an armbar and not getting the arm is almost a submission
Step your fight game up pleblord.

How long have you been training? I started doing MMA at 21 and also aspire to go pro (assuming I do well as an amateur). Not going to quit my day job yet though.

5'9
74 inch reach
Weight 170 (Most likely fighting at 145)

Coach said I have great boxing and have been catching on quick, but I get nervous and feel discouraged about fighting because I've started so late.

Do you live in oregon? I am 5 ' 9" 230 lbs builtfat with 72 inch reach and insane speed. I will heem you

You'd have to be pretty fucking strong brah.
Even then, there's no guarantees they won't just proceed to put you into another hold until you gas yourself

Wrestling is great
blow job job is ass

>BJJ so useless everyone must learn it to be competitive.

They only have to learn anti jiu jitsu to avoid getting cheesed by some fag who sucks at sports. Takes way less time than it does to get your black belt

Anti BJJ is literally just BJJ you fucking mong.

You are not even close to starting late. Yoel Romero is fucking 40. Ngannou started in his late 20s. Jon Jones started after community college. Just get in the ring. If you aspire to be pro, it's the only way to make it. Get in the ring, over and over again. If you lose, you find weaknesses to close and you've ventured further than 99% of people will.

I've seen low level MMA. Everyone who knows jits can get by, but they get absolutely shit on by good strikers.

Also in response to your question, I started BJJ at 14, boxing at 16, Muay Thai at 18, and I'm currently 22 with that record.

Its literally less than half of bjj you fucking mong. It amounts to free your arm leg or back and stand up. Watch some interviews all top fighters agree that it's way easier to learn defensive jiu jitsu than it is to learn jiu jitsu as a whole

Tyron Woodley has youth and an incredible amount of strength on his side against Damien Maia. DM is 25-8

BJJ will make you a good fighter. If you want to be UFC champion, you will need both striking, grappling, and strength in no short supply.

youtube.com/watch?v=Fk2J8_M094g

Think of it like this. Yeah you have less experience but you also have less mileage on your body. It all depends on the effort you put in to perfecting your skills and working with your coach.
Fuck whoever says you have to had trained as a kid to make it, be an example and prove them wrong.

Attached: 20161216050932_1DX_8244.jpg (640x427, 88K)

Bjj is getting phased out, striking and wrestling (the two manliest aspects of fighting) will reign supreme in the coming years. The only reason fagjitsu was ever prominent is because the ufc used to pay their fighters in food stamps and all the good athletes went to other sports. Jiu jitsu relies on everyone sucking too much and being unathletic to succeed. Put a jitsufag in the ring with a real athlete that knows how not to get cheesed and gayboy loses every time. STOP WASTING YOUR TIME ON JIU JITSU DUDE ITS FUCKING STUPID LOOKS GAY AND DOESNT WORK. BE A MAN AND LEARN TO STRIKE

>It's easier to learn half of something than it is to learn the whole thing

This is the high level analysis I come to Veeky Forums for. Also, in case you didn't notice, you're telling me that learning defensive BJJ is mandatory, and at the same time telling me that BJJ is obsolete.

Garcia is the definition of a can.
>lost all post-TUF UFC fights
>throws haymakers like some nog on the streets of nawlins

Full game blow job job = gay
Cheese defense = unfortunately necessary

You seemed to have a hard time understanding me so i made it real simple for you

You just need to have good octagon control imo. Manipulate the battle.

Good at striking? Focus more on takedown defense instead of takedowns.

Good at wrestling? Focus more on head movement and footwork instead of combinations.

Thats my philosophy anyway. Everything is important, but you have to have bring some sort of speciality to the table.

wrist curls for grip strength, and anything core related.

I am this guy And you made a very smart post. Fag jitsu can be ok when combined with A+ wrestling but most wrestlers still prefer to go for ground and pound for some reason

>Jiu Jitsu doesn't wo-

Attached: ZXEmiBhh_400x400.jpg (400x400, 22K)

BJJ in terms of actual self defense is just as much about getting off the ground as it is fighting on the ground. Just like wrestling in terms of self defense is just as much about not being taken down as it is about getting a takedown.

People have been saying jui jitsu is being phased out for twenty years now.

>tfw you roll with a qt
>tfw wearing a cup so she can't feel your boner

Also, who you got Veeky Forums?

Attached: ypKHJ6kr.jpg (1440x2017, 259K)

There's literally not one professional fighter who doesn't train BJJ. Fucking Brock Lesnar got a blue belt. It isn't getting "phased out" and will be apart of every fighting repertoire for the rest of time.

Every martial art and style has ways that work and ways that dont there isnt an omnipotent martial art. It is the artist. And if your hell bent on proving masculenity instead of being a student you will lose fights.

"Cheese defense" = BJJ

I don't get how hard it is to understand.

Also if Woodley was so confident in his wrestling being better than jui jitsu he would have engaged with Maia more.

If fighting Maia the way woodly and silva fought him is the answer to beating high level jui jitsu that should tell you something right there.

Were talking about fighting an actual fighter not just defending against some dumbass on the street. And jiu jitsu is getting phased out, current champions are wrestlers and strikers, there is no jiu jitsu specialist holding a belt like they used to

Gotta go with the beeb, I dont think tony has the power to hurt him with one shot and thats the only way hes gonna keep beeb off of him

FUCK YOU ARE SO STUPID DUDE WHERE DO YOU LIVE. I AM IN OREGON PLEASE FIGHT ME WE CAN SEE WHICH STYLE IS SUPERIOR. OFC IT TAKES A RETARD LIKE YOU TO VEHEMENTLY DEFEND BLOW JOB JOB

The problem was that Woodley knew that his wrestling was better, and that his striking was better. So the only way Maia wins was to get him on the ground. Tyron played the technically correct game. Maia should also have tried to do more things to open up his takedowns. Maia's high kicks would have been pretty much free since the counter for high kicks are takedowns. Maia didn't gameplan well enough.

Remember that Ferguson is a BJJ black belt. I actually think that Ferguson beats Khabib in striking and BJJ.

absolutely mirin height and reach

6'3 with a 78 inch reach here

What do i do to make Muay Thai click? been training about 3 to 4 months and i mostly just focus on making jab openings with low kicks and blocking/punishing jabs.. sick of feelin like i suck. any advice brother?

Tony has the tools to beat Khabib if he uses them all correctly, but he might fall in love with his guard game too much and end up losing from the bottom. I don't see Khabib getting subbed from the bottom like Kevin Lee did. But if Tony uses his jits to threaten and then get back up he can win the standup. It might end up coming down to who has a better gas tank, and I give Tony a slight edge there.

Yeah but i think that beeb is just gonna sit on top of him and punch his face for 5 rounds, dont see him getting submitted. Think hes too strong and too damn good at sambo

The same goes for mma. I'm just specifying that the martial art isn't the same as BJJ tournaments where it's solely about ground fighting.

This isn't 1997 there's hardly any specialists anymore period but let's to over some right quick off the top of my head.
>The last HW champ was a BJJ specialist werdum.
>Maia just fought woodley for the belt
>Jon jones solely focuses on jui jitsu the last few years.
>tony ferguson is a specialist currently with the belt
Jacre and May others are in the mix.

I actually think the complete opposite. If they stay standing, Ferguson has a better boxing skillset. If they go to the ground, Ferguson's gonna put up a hell of an offensive guard. In fact, that's a big part of the 10th Planet game.

I think we're looking at a Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva situation, and while Anderson took a beating for most of that fight, Chael still lost.

Smart take on it my man. Either way i dont give either fighter a huge advantage, but I feel like physically strong wrestlers can give bjj guys trouble on the ground and beeb is def strong.

It's gonna be a hell of a fight for sure.

How do you think ferg will deal with beebs strength, you think his offensive guard is really enough for it?

>getting this mad over an arguement on a Chechen Breakdancing forum

And I thought this was bait before.

Khabib has A LOT more submission grappling than Chael did, it's hard for me to see him falling into a sub on top. A big question is if he understands the 10th planet guard game though, if you don't understand rubber guard it can be tough to escape. It's hard to use it when sweaty in the later rounds though, so it might not even be a big factor.

Yea I have some advice. Watch videos of Thai fighters. Notice how rhythmic they are because they fight to music in Thailand. If somebody receives a kick, they check and immediately hit back. It's like a dance moreso than any other style. Use your teep and feint jab to place your opponent where you want them. Throw the jab often enough and you can throw body/leg kicks to deteriorate their performance. Usually when I get them tired I'll lunge in with a knee or stepping teep to get in punching/elbow range and into the clinch.

Also, run run run. Thai fighters are notoriously sinewy/lanky because running is a huge part of their game.

t. redditor

Do SS for 3 months or until your linear progression stalls, then switch to the bridge

I think Ferguson is gonna weather the storm and out cardio Khabib if Khabib just muscles out of everything. Khabib is strong, but no one is that strong for five rounds. Also, just muscling out of things opens Khabib up to different things. Most BJJ people have dealt with large wrestlers before so I don't think this is going to be new to Ferguson.

I can see Ferguson getting a sweep and just staying on top with his superior BJJ, even without hitting submissions.

thanks brother. I should get up on my muay thai.

bjj is going okay.. feel like i flow better during a roll 8 months in. which is funny because i wanted to wrestle but it aint available.

i also prefer boxing but want to be more fully rounded to practice mma.. lifes hard

What's wrong with what he said?

You ever seen bjj competitions? It's some of the most passive shit I've ever seen. brb, getting on ground and spreading legs open.

faggots.

THat's only a product of a specifically shit ruleset. If you watch EBI or ADCC, that shit doesn't happen.

So is it a consensus that modified oly training > strength training, more focused on bench deadlift ohp and squats?

Anyone with fighting and lifting can confirm this?

Well, to be honest you get strong as shit when you get good at oly so i guess the point is just to get stronger regardless?

meant to say fighting and lifting experience, im sleepy

different user but beeb is that strong for five rounds. hes not ridiculously athletic explosive strong, theres a grinding and consistent pressure strength to him. if you watch fights where his opponents dont make dumb mistakes its not him picking them up and throwing them, its beeb slowly but surely grinding them in the clinch down to the ground. his endurance is just ridiculous. dagestan training regimens are absurd

i think khabib wins it. cucuy's style can just be so bizarre but beeb has that wildness to him that jon had. its just nearly impossible to predict what hes gonna do night in night out - the outcome is always the same though, he ties you up, wears you out and takes you down and then beats the shit out of you. like the other user said, i think simply because tony doesnt have one punch KO power hes not gonna be able to stop khabib. but its tough, tonys guard is dangerous as hell and anything can happen. if beeb gets too wild hes fucked, but im giving it to beeb, even as a huge tony fan. he grew up about forty miles from me

good luck big man
