Alright you cucks. I just can't fucking deal with the usb vs. ledger shit anymore even though it's mostly trolling.
Ledger: >private key never leaves the device, it never shows anywhere nor you never have to type it, device itself acts as a key to access your wallet >physical buttons to confirm transactions, no one can remotely accept the transactions >can be used safely on pc's with malwares/keyloggers/whatever >open source >designed to break completely in case someone tries to rig the device >only way to steal the funds is either to 1. know the pin code and physically hold the device or 2. know the 24 word seed to back up the wallet
USB: >private key always visible >anyone could remotely accept the transactions on your wallet of choice >stealing funds requires a keylogger written in visual basics by a 10-year-old or simply steal the usb
You don't hold your bank account details or credit card numbers on an usb, do you user?
Ledger is great for protecting against remote attacks, it's stil only as secure as the paper you wrote the seed on though.
Josiah Bennett
I remember some guy on here saved his private key onto a plaintext file on his google drive with 2FA, claiming it was way better than a ledger.
Adrian Morris
How about encrypting your private keys, and stego it into the most disgusting porn and gore pictures you can imagine, hide it in a folder on an encrypted USB with thousands of similar pics and be done with it. Just don't have the wife find it
Kevin Ramirez
Thanks. I hate the FUD.
Grayson Lee
So basically your saying I need to put my bank account details and credit card number on a USB so they are safe?
Xavier Thomas
Yes, preferably also leave the usb laying around somewhere public as well
Lucas Hill
Good idea, I cant always keep an eye on it myself to keep it safe
Jaxon Perez
Is there always going to be a thread on nanos in the catalog at all times? Buy one and shut the fuck up.
Grayson Lewis
Ledger: you think it's all safe and dandy but it isn't. It can be hacked, just like your computer can be hacked. Also the ledger nano has a piece of closed source code. if you search around a bit there's many people that have actually did things like dumping the trezor bootloader and then overwriting it / editing it.
This shit is basically an USB stick that has its own OS. and it's own vulnerablilites
USB: if you encrypt your usb and use a safe MAIN OS ( linux / tails OS ) its pretty safe too.
Also, why would you keep a hardware wallet? how are you going to deny you have any crypto currency when the FED finds your nano ledger or trezor?
Michael Sanders
Good job hacking the firmware of my ledger half way across the world.
Also good job on missing the entire point of the ledger, its not even close to a USB in its functionality. I don't need your private key, i just need to take control of your computer. With a ledger you need to have my ledger in your hands to sign the transaction.
they can't prove you own any either if they can't see your wallet
The more you try to secure something the more holes you possibly create.
Don't ever think that a glorified USB stick is safe. Honestly, i'ts not worth the money.
Luis Ortiz
I want to be in control of my private keys. Not locked down to my leger or trezor.
if you have a ledger you don't know your own private keys? good luck being tied down to one hardware vendor.
Jonathan Kelly
Why would I need to deny it? I have worked for that cryptocurrency, legally. Wouldn't the situation be the exact same with an usb?
Nano S is safer than Trezor. The source code of the wallet is open, which is enough to consider it safe, taken that almost everything else is open as well.
Caleb Kelly
Can I clone my Ledger? I want to keep one in a safety deposit box.
Thomas Rogers
>writing the seed on paper Casual. There are much better options.
Ayden Cruz
You know the 24 word seed.
Jason Baker
This just shows me how little research you apparently did. You have the seed, you can even import your own seed into the ledger.
Benjamin Jones
>not tattooing the seed on your gooch in 2012
Jaxson Myers
Ledger nano and Hardware wallets are for retards. You don't need this shit at all unless you are the kind of retard that falls for phishing attempts.
Reasons I don't want a ledger or any hardware wallet ( at the moment )
- Expensive - Can't deny I own crypto if the popo find my ledger - Can be stolen - Tied down to my hardware wallet vendor. - Don't know my private keys - unhandy small buttons on an usb stick - Closed source in ledger, no one can review it so it can potentially have bad code or backdoors
but the most important reason is :
- I am not a retard and don't need it.
Austin Cruz
>im doing shit with cryptocoins but cant into encryption retard how about doing a simple symetric encryption on a text file?
David Richardson
he's too retarded he needs a 100 eur glorified usb stick with on CHIP OS to safely handle his private keys.
Brandon Mitchell
>good luck being tied down to one hardware vendor. Are you literally retarded?
Carter Butler
All of this is exactly why I insisted my tech illiterate family buy one when I convinced them to put money into crypto.
Adam Cooper
Like what?
Wyatt Howard
The source code for ledger is completely open source... You can compile it yourself, duh
Jacob Kelly
Maybe I have a virus on my computer I'm unaware of.
I don't want to install a secure linux op or make my own hardware wallet
Cooper Lee
Etching it into a steel plate with a rotary tool. Takes 20 minutes and you have a fireproof backup.
Also, scramble the order of the words and keep the correct numerical order saved in a keepass database. That way even if someone steals your recovery seed, they still will never be able to access your coins without your keepass.
Parker Garcia
And then you use your software wallet with your private key and now youve made the whole act of encrypting a text file pointless, good job.
Juan Perez
Ok, serious question:
Why don't you guys just store a password protected RAR of your private keys in the cloud?
