The poor units featured on Sourcebooks only are so underrated.
Grayson Rogers
Behold, my crappy attempt at colorizing.
Matthew Rivera
It's a good start. I can tell what's going on with the design a better now.
Asher Richardson
I'm still rather disappointed that they killed off Wilson's Hussars in the jihad. It would have been much funnier if they'd somehow lived through it and were still there, still almost broke, still going, all the way into the Dark Age
Liam Bailey
Since this came out I now default all generic SPGs to those, ICE Thumpers, and Longtoms.
Elijah Davis
Couldn't start a battle, get a blank screen. But if this works I might try my hand on it.
It could be fun, run a campaign over /btg/ with a browser like system. We could even run some tracks, add some fluff. Could be fun.
Noah Reed
Noobie question: I found a copy of the Battletech 2nd Edition box set in my FLGS. It's in great condition: almost all of the punch-out bits are still in the original cardboard sheets.
1) Is this box set worth $50? 2) Is it a good way to get started with BattleTech in general? I've always liked the look/feel of the earlier products...
Zachary Morgan
>50 bucks
Bro trust me on this, grab the 25th anniversary box for 44 bucks. You get actual minis on those.
Asher Morales
3rd edition is the old set you want if you want old box sets. It comes with plastic minis. Even Battledroids came with two N-scale kits. 2nd edition is only good for the fun of the rule book, which you'll tend to pick up in old book lots anyway, like the solaris rule book.
You can download the rulebook and the counters from the main folder here in any case.
Jordan Rodriguez
>solaris rule book Is it possible getting the Solaris arena boards?
Austin Evans
It's pretty hard to get certain old maps, especially the solaris ones and the ones from scenario books. Megamek has most of them in it's map file that you can print out though.
I still count my blessings that I have stuff like the special Luthien map with the Coordinator's Palace on it.
Chase Brooks
I know that Ral Partha Europe sell the Solaris map sheets. The large ones are sold separately, while the smaller ones are part of the selection they use for their random map packs (10 maps from compilations 1, 2 and Solaris).
Nathaniel Morales
Anybody else betting on ilClan Sea Fox?
Eli White
One of the April Fools pdfs (I forget which) has them in pdf.
James Rivera
Do the Lyrans ever use their "wall of steel" strategy correctly in the lore?
Gavin Moore
The compilation packs are printed on cheap paper instead of the good cardboard though.
Mason Lewis
4th Succession War.
Jace Wilson
By correctly you mean just keep throwing loads of guns and armor at the enemy until you muddle through? Yes. All the time.
If you mean parking a bunch of slow bruisers that your mobile forces funnel the enemy into, they do that too.
If you mean Atlas scout lance then THOMAS HOGAAAAAAARTH!
Colton Moore
>Atlas scout lance
Is that really a thing?
Ethan Bell
The answer to the question "Do Lyrans use Atlases to scout?" is no.
The answer to the question "Do Lyrans send assault lances into unscouted territory?", however, is yes.
Jeremiah Torres
Well I suppose they would have enough to make it worthwhile.
Kayden Perez
Is it worth getting the Falcon's Prey or Death from Above boosters on amazon or ebay? Will they come with a decent amount of mechs?
Nicholas Peterson
Pretty sure boosters only contained one mech.
James Foster
Not even guaranteed. Could just as easily be an industrial or a tank.
Benjamin Martin
I'm just wondering why there are so many boosters from those two expansions still available? Like, what's the catch?
Caleb Mitchell
A couple years ago, you could just buy the factory complete sets of everything pretty cheap. No catch. Just happens to be what is available.
Falcon's prey isn't too memorable except for being the only expansion to have classic elementals.
Robert Gomez
Could be resealed packs stuffed with shit no-one wants.
Could just be because it's a dead game.
Jayden Robinson
>Is it possible getting the Solaris arena boards? They put out printable versions in the April Fools Royal Fantasy Tournament pdf. Plus, Disney Princesses in BattleTech. What's not to love?
Samuel Powell
You are better looking for complete sets, they are cheap and you know what you will get. Other really cheap and common minis are :
Mangonel and Jade Hawk (starter set) Industrial mechs Ugly mechs (such as the reseen) Mechs released after 2007 (when they released that Solaris VII and Battleforce sets)
Look for wrok-it2004 in ebay. He has a huge mini collection and you can ask him for specific minis.
Mason Miller
Gentlemen, the Built for War preview is now available.
We've got it up on time and with everything we said it would include. Go us.
Now go shill the hell out of it.
There are a couple of issues I haven't been able to figure out yet: the embedded .pdfs for unit stat may have issues if you open it in your browser, and some people may find the unit text to be blurry.

We're never getting ilKhan, its never going to happen. We're going to get succession wars 2, a bunch of shitty xtros for it, then succession wars 1, a bunch of shitty xtros for that, then succession wars 3 redux, a bunch of shitty xtros for that, then they're going to reset the time line. To the 4th succession war, due to the sales of the previous 3.
James Gonzalez
There's a typo here on the first unit. >Unlike other aquatic specialists, the Salamanders maintain a large unit of battle armored troopers. Should be this, I'll try and see if there's others.
Carter Gonzalez
Also on the Veles page, 'contubernium' is mispelled as 'contuberium' a couple times. Last paragraph of the Deployment section, second to last sentence "...then called in called in pinpoint artillery fire..." remove one instance of 'called in'.
On the Dragonfly fluff page, Capabilities section, last sentence "...developing a program to meet technicians meet this challenge." the first 'meet' should probably be 'help'.
On the stat page for the Knight, its shield is listed on the Right Arm instead of Left - I know stats trump art, but it also says there are no available critical slots left in the Right Arm, where every configuration keeps its primary weapon.
If you guys are still in the editing process and don't want people CGLing in fan corrections, that's fine. These were just a couple things I noticed on a first pass. Overall, it looks pretty good.
The Knight's legs and torso look fairly similar to the old Hatchetman's, to the point that I think a decent kitbash could be done of it with minimal cutting and sculpting required. Was that a deliberate art choice or convergent evolution of humanoid sci fi robots?
James Long
>If you guys are still in the editing process and don't want people CGLing in fan corrections, that's fine. We're still in the editing process and welcome people CGLing in fan corrections. How else are we going to improve it?
Also, in the future we need to make sure Muninn doesn't stay up overnight working on it. That's probably the cause of a number of the typos.
Adrian Nguyen

>worthwhile No But they can offset the losses from ineptitude better than any other house.
Carter Wilson
Hot Damn!
People have already spotted the mistakes i'm seeing so far. One thing to note however is that the font for the first several units stats are light and tough to read...at least for me. Not sure what can be done about that or whether its just me.
The Cover is also nice but not up to the standards of the rest of it. The layout and color scheme hopefully aren't final.
Nathan Stewart
>But they can offset the losses from ineptitude better than any other house.
What about the Federated Suns?
Joshua Carter
FedSuns don't take losses from ineptitude.

I think anyone familiar with Caleb Davion would disagree.
But then again, it was suggested that Caleb Davion was a sound tactician in Era Report 3145.
Gabriel Green
Sorry, I was unclear. I was referring to the eras of real Battletech, not Dark Age shit.
Jose Long
What about George Hasek then?
Didn't he start a war that wound up costing his March dearly when the Capellan's struck back and managed to lay siege to New Sytris?
Dominic Campbell
>we're perfect in my headcannon
Hunter Martinez
That went against every previous characterization he had if you read Imminent Crisis and FM Fedsuns. The man was the last of the Hanse-type Davions. Then he went completely retarded. Sovereign Justice made no sense. Makes me wish he got assassinated sooner so at least we could lay the blame on his sister.
Thomas Johnson
>What about George Hasek then? He was perfectly competent, he just got whacked halfway through the campaign, and his boys only got wrecked once the capellans started nuking them while mysteriously avoiding getting nuked back. Can't blame anyone for that
Jeremiah Rodriguez
>That went against every previous characterization he had >Then he went completely retarded. Sovereign Justice made no sense. Hrm, I wonder why... >Can't blame anyone for that Is that a fact We know exactly what happened
Joseph Foster
And people believing that the FS had the capability to shoot up Sian.
Especially after Sun-Tzu survived it.
Julian Price
>in Imminent Crisis all George Hasek wants is to safeguard his March and stay on guard for Capellan predations >suddenly when the plot requires New Avalon not get reinforcements Hasek is written to launch an invasion with a post-civil war tattered military with practically no back up One of the cringiest moments in the early Jihad
Matthew Perry
Man New Syrtis had a really shit decade at that time.
>Barely repelled Katrinatards in the FCCW >Sacked and occupied by the Capellans less than two years later >Left unprotected and ortillery bombarded by Taurians a couple years after that
Makes you wonder how enough of anything was left to keep it a march capital. That's core world during the first two succession wars level of raped.
Nathan Wright
The Capellans attacked it but didn't sack and occupy it. That came in the Dark Age.
Asher Edwards
It should be one of those in-universe conspiracy theories that he was replaced like Thomas Marik was after the assassination attempt in Imminent Crisis. The George that launched Sovereign Justice was really a double, and that's why he was later assassinated by his own people when his actions went so totally off the rails.
Eli Phillips
>That's core world during the first two succession wars level of raped. >wah we lost some wars it's as bad as the planets that had everything of value on them nuked into nonexistance ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Not even close. It still has buildings standing, after all.
Jace Taylor
Plus, it's not like the capellans really wanted to destroy it too badly anyway. New Syrtis is one of the ancestral Capellan worlds, and razing it would only make its inevitable reconstruction (once it's been properly reintegrated into the Confederation) more difficult.
Parker Foster
The Capellans didn't just attack it. They conquered it. The units there didn't leave until they got the call to come home. I forget why though. Was it breakdown of the St Ives pseudo truce or fighting the WoB?
John Anderson
Eh, about the same as New Earth or a similar place.
John Miller
>New Syrtis is one of the ancestral Capellan worlds
So that business about most of the Capellan March being historical Liao territory is true?
Oliver Ross
No, they attacked it and withdrew without being able to conquer it. George Hasek was assassinated afterwards or else the Cappies would have done him in.
>cappies consider Chesterton an ancestral world >they never owned it it's a bit of a joke
NEW AVALON ANCESTRAL CAPELLAN WORLD TERRA ANCESTRAL CAPELLAN WORLD STRANA MECHTY ANCESTRAL CAPELLAN WORLD
Jack Gutierrez
>So that business about most of the Capellan March being historical Liao territory is true? Haha, no. The cappies in-universe (and their more rabid fans in the real world) have an EXTREMELY elastic definition of "ancestral capellan world"
Camden Hall
According to the radical Capellan fans, if you draw a line across the Inner Sphere from Solaris to Terra to Robinson, everything "south" of that line is "Ancestral Capellan Territory." I recall one of the Beemers (not madCap) making a completely serious post about taking Tamarind back from the usurpers who "stole" it from the Caps.
Fucking Tamarind.
Ethan Rodriguez
Hahaha no
the state that took the most from the Cappies was the FWL, mainly Andurien and the surroundings
Adam Taylor
When the Chancellor is the RIGHTFUL FIRST LORD OF THE STAR LEAGUE, all worlds are ancestlal Caperran worrds.
Andrew Kelly
>Was that a deliberate art choice or convergent evolution of humanoid sci fi robots? Convergent evolution. I just wanted a mech that looked like a knight. I regret nothing. And yes, the shield is in the wrong arm, but for a small fee, Shende would have made you a left handed version.
Cameron Ward
Technically I think the Suns took slightly more worlds than the Free Worlds.
Christian Watson
>TERRA ANCESTRAL CAPELLAN WORLD Technically, it is. Then again, it's technically EVERYONE'S ancestral world.
Christian Gomez
On the note of historical Capellan Worlds, didn't Kai leave Confederation service after orders to attack a world that had never been part of Liao territory?
Cooper Sanchez
>What about the Federated Suns? The FedSuns actually has absolutely shit manufacturing capacity for most heavies and assaults through the Succession Wars and until well into the Invasion. In 3025 they have: JagerMech, Rifleman, Marauder, Victor, Longbow, and very limited Atlas lines
They spend most of their refits pulling explosive components >out< of their Heavies and rebuilding salvaged enemy units, as well as raiding for parts. The Cataphract line helps a lot, as does the Caesar (one of the reasons I suspect they kept producing it was to have another trooper heavy line in the control of the Suns). The place the Suns shone was using 'Mechbuster refits to polish some of the worst turds in their lineup, and their massive and very nasty Medium selection.
Ryder James
No, the planet haven't been part of the CC since one of the Succession Wars (3rd or 4th)
Julian Taylor
That is surprising.
I thought the Suns were right behind the Lyrans in terms of building Heavy and Assult Mechs.
Hudson Flores
All the early fluff is about them using medium troopers and having the closest thing to a professional army compared to the other states.
Caleb Harris
But that's all been retconned anyway. We shouldn't really consider anything between about 2800 and 3039 as actually canon
Liam Parker
Well, the big thing about the Fedcom formation back in the day was the Feddie formations getting a lot more heavy equipment and the Elsie formations getting a lot better officer training.
Of course all that went down the tube bigtime later but it was a big part of the alliance back when the fox was pounding sweet jailbait princess pussy.
Christopher Gutierrez
>The Cataphract line helps a lot Except for the the CTF-3D being the mess that it is.
Jace Robinson
But they built the 1X until 3050. Not that it's an excuse for the 3D being almost a Rifleman 4D-tier clusterfuck.
Isaac Martin
As has been pointed out by others, this is a bit of a running gag. The core of the joke is with Chesterton, a system the Capellans have claimed for centuries. They treat it like it's lost territory, yet to be reclaimed - there's a Duke of Chesterton, a brigade of Chesterton Reserves, etc.
At no point (prior to 3144) was Chesterton ever part of the Confederation. It was part of one of the smaller states that joined another smaller state that eventually banded together against the Suns' military adventurism to form the Confederation, but it was captured before then. The Caps were after ever since, coming close during the early Succession Wars, but being kicked off by the Syrtis Fusiliers (and an angry populace) before they could secure it. Guess they finally got it while riding that Dark Age high.
Jonathan Long
>Implying such alliances aren't what sweet jailbait princess pussy is FOR
Justin James
Actually, now I look at it the Knight's fixed equipment and space table is missing a lot - the space numbers are probably right (swapped shield notwithstanding?) but the endo and ferro aren't on there.
Juan Martinez
Not gonna lie. I would've still hit Katrina too if I was in Hanse's shoes.
Jackson Allen
I think you mean Melissa.
Elijah Brooks
I meant both, but I am a greedy bastard.
Jeremiah Davis
Would you hit Mad Kat?
Joseph Barnes
If he was in Hanse's shoes, that'd be kinda gross. But also might explain some of her issues.
Austin Jones
lolwut
Can you give me any other info?
Thanks. We're going to be editing probably until and after the final release, so please do point out any other errors you see.
It never ceases to amaze me how many things slip past 5 people looking it over.
The Knight's legs were in fact a deliberate choice on Plog's part. I didn't tell him to draw on that look but he did so in order to give the Knight "spurs" and I quite like it after the fact. Also surprised at the number of people that have noticed it.
I only woke up to get food and fix anything that was urgent, going back to sleep.
Yeah, the cover is just something I put together after going "Fug, need a cover piece" at 3 am. Will have proper cover art in the end.
Can you tell me what PDF reader you're using? Or take screencaps? People are having issues with it, and everyone seems to have a different one. It all looks pristine on my end, so I'm clueless until I get more info.
Plog made the feet that way on purpose, actually.
The spaces are right, but the endo and ferro aren't on because I was experimenting with a way to save space. The structural component lines can take up over 14 lines of text on some mechs, and that was way too much.
Not sure what the deal is with the shield, will have to check that out when I wake up for reals.
Josiah Morris
I make it a point not to put my dick in anyplace Vlad Ward has been or will be.
Juan Butler
DESU, as a fedcom loyalist, I wish that Victor hadn't been a coward and said "yes" to katerina at least once, so's we'd still have all FedCom all 24/7
Brandon Kelly
I visited the OF and it is shocking just how slow it is.
Gavin Wright
Why? They decided about three years ago to turn it into a place for Beemers and their friends to talk to Beemers and their friends, then ran off everyone else and made it hostile to new users (who by definition can't be Beemers or their friends).
It was a shitty thing to do, but it's what they wanted the official site to be.
The shit quality of new products and slow release schedule for anything that's not TTS doesn't help drive conversation much either.
