Tundra civ thread ep.51

Hello and welcome everyone, new and old players alike! This is Tundra civ, a civ thread series in a fictional, non-fantasy setting where you play as the rulers of the White Republic, a nation in a world similar to our own.
Check out the pastebin for story, technologies, stats etc.

Previously on Tundra civ:
As society progresses into the Second Industrial Revolution, new technologies are developed. Following the uprisings of 1076 AE, our nation was greatly disturbed, but now stability has returned, despite the various troublesome developments - the increased politicization of society has led to the establishment of socialist, anarchist, communist and secessionist movements.

Recently the Sigbru Kingdom was allowed to annex a portion of the pajit lands that were involved in the uprisings. Most of the material damages of the uprisings have been repaired throughout the home continent.

The New Pajit Union has expanded its territory over the michiki tribal lands. Its population and wealth has expanded rapidly as it is attracting thousands of immigrants from the subjugated races.

In Veita our colonies have expanded inlands, into the Valley of the Heart. The aboriginals did not resist and we've gained more territory(mostly desert) and valuable resources.

Ocras continues to be a prosperous continent - recently organised crime had become a major problem. In responce, for the first time in a long time a large amount of troops were deployed to deal with this issue.
The colonial representatives of South Eyerdar, Veita and Ocras banded together into the Southsea Coalition in the Council. They were demanding increased autonomy for themselves, but with successful debates, government and religious proganda increased the government's popularity among the colonials, which has calmed the situation.

research mechanization, put double focus on it, we need our state industry to win us some money.

H

Choose one scientific area to focus the Academy's efforts on:
A.Power
B.Mechanization
C.Metallurgy
D.Military
E.Navy
F,Chemistry
G.Physics(electricity and such)

B.Mechanization

>B.Mechanization
let's work on making sure we can go full chain work and start employing 5000 per factory and literally drown our country with low priced luxury goods, also we might want to export some of it to KE and SA.

B. Tanks

why posting the same tank pic here have another one.
btw tanks need treads to be real useful and we might want to wait a bit because we don't even have actual diesel engines that will be powerful enough to power those. heck we don't even have cars as a popular thing.
let's hop we get chain-work to improve our industry and then work on cars and then work on tanks.

The easiest way to tanks i can see is as follows;

1) Tractors/other mechanised farming equipment

2) Mount guns/armour on them, take inspiration from boats = "landships"

3) Hope the nose doesn't steal them, which is also why we should not develop nukes for as long as possible.

New technologies are being employed in industrial production. With the power of electricity new and more powerful machine tools are built and used. Factories are better organised as infrastructure links resources to manufacturing to consumers. Factories now have lighting and superior material-handling systems. Interchangable parts, standartised measurements, better tools - industrial production has become far more efficient with both material input and product output, old-style artisans are unable to compete with the massed production of products as factories are built throughout our nation and more people move from the countryside to the cities. That's been spurred on by better agricultural technology as well, with mobile steam engines pulling plows - our first traction engines.
Military production has also increased with better a better Industrialized Armament Industry.
An issue has come up before the Council - women in the workplace, particulary factories
A.Encourage, increasing our workforce numbers greatly
B.Take no side - whatever works for individual families
C.Discourage - women should be family caretakers and stay at home

>D. Encourage womens of other races.

B

B.Take no side - whatever works for individual families

The government should have little influence on peoples lives in this way, if they want or need to work then they can but we hold no official opinions on it.

C. If we have women work in horrid condition it would help the socialists in place like the Eyerdar.

Except we have better working conditions than the rest of the world and even ignoring that the working conditions are quite good. Most of the jobs are moving things and stopping the machines from fucking up.

The government will not take any hard stance on the issue and let people figure their own lives out.

propose trade free of taxes with our industry in exchange for scientific collaboration on non military topics.

We already have that scientific collaboration. We recently increased tariffs, but scientific agreements have not changed in a long time and in non-military areas our allies have learned much from us and we from them(maybe not that much).

Together with Kaichou engineers, the United Steel Mill in Center-Kot has pioneered new metalurgical technologies that are finding use through the industrial world. Electric Rolling Techniques, Steel Alloys, Riveting and other inventions have greatly increased man's capability of constructing stronger buildings, ships and vehicles.

Kaichou explorers have become the first to reach the Southern Pole, planting the Imperial Flag in that icy land beyond civilization. A great accomplishment that is being lauded throughout the Empire.

With the latest technologies, a series of well-equiped expeditions were able to reach to explore much of the Arctic and have planted our flag on the North Pole! We've also mapped out a traversable passage in the cold northern sea, which can be used in warmer months by ships to reach the eastern coast of Aymsland without having to sail as far south as Junutu!
Though this has been welcomed as good news, there has also been recent social turmoil. Socialist, communist and anarchist parties have gained more followers following a series of minor political gaffes and mismanagements from the conservative government, two years of poor harvests and an increasing desire for social change for better working and living conditions.

How shall we deal with the rising discontent?
A.Improve labor laws, we'll take better care of them

e.Other

>D.Crack down on the red menace with our police forces!

B

B.Lower taxes, set incentives for self-improvement and hard work

The first one makes our buisnesses less profitable

The third is preferable but we can't keep forcing more propaganda down there throats. Therefore i feel we should save it as a "ace in the hole".

The fourth is a last resort. We should only do that if we are about to lose control.

Therefore we should do two.

A. I don't see why we couldn't help our own own a little, a program for education on needed trades or something for struggling folk.

C.

>B.Lower taxes, set incentives for self-improvement and hard work
Let's hope for the best.

B

>The fourth is a last resort. We should only do that if we are about to lose control.
No it isn't it must be done when they're weak and lacking support, not when they're about to launch a revolution that would only make them look like martyrs.
Acceding to one of their demands will make them prompt us to access to more of them, give them a hand they'll take your arms off and eat for diner.

I agree, give them an inch and they take a mile. No concessions to crazy fringe politics.

And cracking down on people expressing their political freedoms will lose us any support from the middle and lower class. Ignoring those whom are against the ideology of socialism whole-heartedly.

For that reason it is a last resort, as it will inflame their support from neutral people and will make them take more extreme actions.

>>>qst

We could lower taxes right now, and the next time they demand something we'll crack down on them.

At the 1112 AE General elections the Liberal Party won, bearing a more moderate message that appeals to the middle and upper class and those workers looking to advance in society. As its major campaign promise the new leadership has lowered taxes and created more incentives for economic growth. Part of the pressure on the government has been let off, as Prime Minister Nestian is widely popular.

For the people

Rolled 80, 68 = 148 (2d100)

Let's do B, F and E, but there'll be some events after this.
Over the years, through trial and error various scientists have designed internal combustion engines. Earlier designs have been in use in electric power generation for a while now, but in the last five years we've seen many new patents registered in this field.
The biggest breakthrough, presented in the Lakeside Science Fair, is Jarin Fauls' automobile, a wheeled vehicle, propelled by its internal combustion engine.
In the military, firearm designers have produced our first true machine guns, stationary rapid fire weapons that can be operated by a single person or more, as the recoil of the weapon's firing loads the next bullet, resulting in AUTOMATIC FIRE. Breech-loaded rifles have also become standart issue and many have adopted the use of removable magazines, increasing rate of fire significantly.
In the field of naval technology, sailing vessels are now a thing of the past as steam-powered ships rule the waves both in trade, transport and warfare. Stronger, steel-armored steam warships have been constructed and new armament has been introduced, among which the torpedo, a submersible weapon that can potentially deliver devastating amounts of damage to enemy ships.
Now rolling for political development in our country and abroad. High results in both cases are good for us.

>Rolled 80, 68

Good thing I didn't roll.

Prime Minister Nestian's policies have been successful and well-recieved in most of the nation as we have marked increases in both economic prosperity and liberty. The government's popularity has risen and civil unrest has decreased as the more moderate socialists have accepted gradual, peaceful societal change as their goal.
The more radical ones have founded the International Socialist League(InSoGue), based in Paitras, a major NPU city. Currently the vast majority of InSoG members are not white, chink or kaichou.
While the NPU government is not dominated by socialists, all political movements have found refuge there. The most recent news is that as of 1116 AE married women in the NPU are also given the right to vote!

>F.Improve Military

Our armed forces are outdated.

To explain what i mean by this consider what has changed since we last updated our tactics; we have invented machine guns, clip-fed rifles, auto-mobiles (admittedly in their earliest forms but still), we have greatly advanced medicine, farming and so many other fields that tactics once valid before are terrible.

We are using 19th century tactics in a era of machine guns and such, if we don't update our tactics our next war will look like WW 1!

>F.Improve Military
Something is going on with the NPU, time to improve our military, the nose knows.

>F.Improve Military
Either the conspirators will move against our great leader Nestian or he will turn out to be a secret spy. In either case we must be prepared.
WW1 gets an unfairly bad rep desu

F

I don't disagree, to be frank what i am saying is that we can't let the old guard, whom are against machine guns, throw tens of thousands of our men into a literal meat grinder.

We must simply counter any enemy assaults in such a war and wait for them to run out of troops rather than waste our own forces.
