Fucking why?

>see obvious dm on campus (hexpaper sticking out of bag, pathfinder box underhand, etc.)
>"hey you running a campaign?"
>start up a conversation about different systems we run.
>tell him how I usually go AD&D cause my players are usually people who don't usually game a lot
>"yea I like Pathfinder, it has a lotta neat stuff. You can even do magica hirl transformation moves and run it like Sailor Moon."
>diverge at next possible fork in the sidewalk
>"okay bye"

In what fucking realm is it okay to bring up magical girls the first time you talk to someone about anything? That aside why doesnt anyone ever wanna just play a normal fantasy setting? Why do they always have to put their stupid weeb/fetish shit into the game? The most fun I have is with people who i introduce to this stuff who just play the characters like LotR or Skyrim characters, but everytime i try and find people who play a tons of ttrpgs they are nearly always pedo-weebs, furrys, or bronies. I only started dm-ing because anytime I played as a PC i would a.) have to be a cleric because everyone else wanted to be edgelord Hari Kari Sunshine or Tomoko with Spawn powers and b.) be subject to the DMs wet dream of the week. Where do you find both experienced players and DMs who are willing to both roleplay and not shit up every session with their creepy edgelord pervert bullshit?

He just thought you were a fellow weirdo and you found out you're too different kinds of weirdos.

Also, anecdotal evidence is prone to negativity bias, and your post, from title to last line, definitely reads like written by someone overwhelmed with emotions.

Dude, i get it. Some people wanna get their magic girl on. I respect it, but every god damn person i try and play with wants to be a magic godamn girl. Idk if its my city, if its something in the drinking water or what, but i legitamatly just want to play a grizzled ol knight or something and every time its the same thing. Every single time i go to my gamestore its a magicgirl crapshoot, and everytime i lose. There has to be some kinda app or support group. I cant be the only one.

>That aside why doesnt anyone ever wanna just play a normal fantasy setting?
Because they are overdone, generic and boring

This post speaks to me holy shit.

sometimes generic is fun

>In what fucking realm is it okay to bring up magical girls the first time you talk to someone about anything?

He was politely telling you to fuck off it seems, by giving you an out and being upfront with what hes playing.

>Not just playing the most no nonsense knight who is totally genre savvy which fucks up the DMs shit

If you're only source of fun comes from the genre of campaign you're running, you're doing something wrong.

>complains about other GMs
>doesn't bother to run any games himself
>"Why doesn't anyone cater to my wants?"
Good luck, I guess.

Then you aint playing them right. When I think of a cool twist on a fantasy setting I think "man what if magic was against the law? Or what if its always night?" NOT "man wouldnt it be great if everyone was a 8 year old girl who acts oblovious to blatantly sexual situations?"

>Idk if its my city

DESU its totally location ive never had to deal with fetish shit, or magical realms at anyones table.

Its also perspective, a lot of fa/tg/uys seem to go out of their way to find fetish shit and magical realms where thats a bit too extreme of a conclusion to go right to.

>why doesnt anyone ever wanna just play a normal fantasy setting?
Too many people want to do that. It gets boring so people do other things whenever they get the chance.

>Why do they always have to put their stupid weeb/fetish shit into the game?
Because you can do anything in ttrpgs so people push the boundaries as hard as they can.

My man i run games and thats when i have the most fun, but i would actually like to be a player in JUST one game when the treasure isnt bimbo-fied villagers.

>That aside why doesnt anyone ever wanna just play a normal fantasy setting? Why do they always have to put their stupid weeb/fetish shit into the game?

>tfw weabs push their degeneracy into everything.
Weabs wouldn't be so god awful fucking annoying if not for that. Honestly I rate weabism almost as high as transgender on the mental illness scale.

That being said, at least they are as likely to commit suicide as trans people, so we have that to look forward to.

The realm where this guy gives no fucks what you think and enjoys his life the way he likes, you fucking faggot.

>pathfinder box underhand
I don't know what you were expecting when he was flying a red flag so blatantly.

> not playing the grizzled veteran knight in a party full of magical girls
> I cast Desu Kawaii Uguuu~ no Jutsu!-style bullshit in combat
> your turn rolls around
> I CAST FIST

Once a dm made a wizard that turns people (men, women, and children) into bimbofied mindless zombies, and after we defeated the wizard the dm went intondetail about how the bimbo zombies now were under our control describing how they came in every shape and size. Everyone at the table was visbly uncomfortable, and I (being a cleric of course) decded the bimbo zombies had to burn im cleansing fire to put them out of their misery. That was in high school and my introduction to dnd.

Hey, this thread caught my eye on the way by.

I have no opinion either way, however I believe OP is not arguing AGAINST fetishists and magical girls and more arguing for people to have the common courtesy of gauging out a new acquaintance with the same hobby for a bit more time before they spaghetti that shit on you.

Thanks for adding nothing to the discussion

The people of Veeky Forums are everywhere.

The only reason you would have trouble finding a good dm is the fact that a good dm only finds good players.

>fetish shit, or magical realms
What's with this thread, and why is everyone getting Power Rangers-esque transformation stuff mixed up with sexual shit?

I'm fortunate enough to have never encountered any magical realm nonsense in the groups that I've ran for/with, but I'm finding that the problem I encounter is more so people that emphasize role playing games as a story telling medium. Rather than perverts, I'm running into arthouse DM's that run 4 hour long pretend time sessions with 0 combat. I actually find that they're the most likely to railroad players for the sake of fitting a narrative they had in mind. My hat's off to a DM that can craft a good story but this is a game at the end of the day.

>"yea I like Pathfinder"

That should have been the point where you left.

>liking Pathfinder

You should've called him a disgrace to your people, done a 180, and walked away.

I fortunately have no one in my group who would want to do anything involving magical girls.

I mean a fetish is a fetish, but that seems kind of unambitious for an evil wizard doesn't it? I mean zombies are already dumb as fuck, so his master plan was basically just making pretty zombies

>RRRRRRRRRGH HOW DARE PEOPLE LIKE THINGS I DON'T LIKE

>I use my full action to ... and then while I ... finally landing on my left foot in a pose.

>Okay, and you, user?

>I stab the guy in front of me in the throat, called shot.

>.......... okay.

>ARRRRGGHHH NOTHING SHOULD EVER BE QUESTIONED, EVERYONE SHOULD JUST BE COMPLACENT, AND OPINIONS SHOULD NEVER BE SHARED

sorry about sharing an opinion. its almost like Veeky Forums is a board for discussion or something. faggot.

> While my party members are posing together and claiming how the Big Bad has no chance against the forces of good, I kick them aside, walk up to him, say "WELCOME TO SNAP CITY, POPULATION: YOU" and break his neck.

There is a difference between not sharing someone else's interests, and being genuinely butt hurt when they come up in a conversation. How about you guys try not being complete autists, and just tell other people, "that's nice, I don't care for (insert hobby here)"

It was, the first 65 times.

Yea, and theres a difference between jerking off to anime girls, and playing as one in a game where everyone else is trying to be something else. If I wanted to play maidquest id go play maidquest, but when every game I havent personally run has people describing how theyre doing the "move from that anime", their character art is a underaged girl in bikini, or where full grown men are putting their magic girls in "comprimising" situations then their is something seriously wrong with those individuals. Then we have shits like you who are like "cmon user, their ejaculate isnt reaching across the table just play the game. I mean they were nice enough to invite you into their game the least you can do is put up with them reenacting their favorite doujin." Go fuck yourself. Whatever porn you like isnt an "interest" you should be sharing, and not shutting these people down as soon as it comes up is why this shit is so widespeard.

>All anime is porn

ok

>guy mentions Sailor Moon
>HE MUST BE MAGICAL REALMING

Oh yes, i forgot that when Todd, the 200 lb 34 year old butterball is playing Kirin, the scantily clad vampire loli he's doing it for legit roleplaying reasons. I'm sure her high-heels and ribbon bikini are intergral to the plot.

>le genre savvy

Why can't you fucks just have fun playing something the straight? Subversion for the sake of subversion is asinine.

When the first class you mention to someone when talking about d&d is "magic girl" then your intentions are pretty clear from the start.

You're circling around. You're answering by implying that magical girls are inherently magical realm, which was the exact same claim you started out on.
Why is it inherently magical-realm to play a magical girl? The modern trend in magical girl series if anything makes it less magical-realmy or even sexualized, as that trend explores the burden of trying to be a hero, the "deal with the devil" concept and the general fuck-ups of adolescence more than it jerks off over the characters.

I am glad to never have met someone like that, but I did have one of my players ask to play one of the cringiest characters ever. Here's what I remember:
>Super hero game
>Dude wanted to have a guy with transformation powers.
>He would transform into any one of the lower 7 types of angels based upon what kind of sin was committed in the area recently.
>Then had his base form be a scrawny preacher who can dodge bullets, rap verses directly from the bible (did I mention he memorized all of psalms at one point?), and has too many non-combat skills.
>Also had a backstory filled with family and relatives he had to bury from crime and how he prayed his way into having super angel powers
>Tells me he would be playing him as the most "Control-freak paladin of Smite evil" personality he can come up with.
>I tell him to scrap the character
>He comes in with a telepathic troll with cloning and I allow it because we almost ran out of time before dinner was finished.

See
The day I see someone play a magical girl as a character and not a sexualize trope ill believe you.

More than anything else this is making me think your only exposure to the concept is via pornography.

I had a guy who wanted to be a half-werewolf, half-vampire who bursted out of his mothers womb killed his father, was raised in a volcano by a dragon, and one day ate that dragon growing a dragon arm (which he had to wrap in chains for some reason) and carried a buster sword. I told him to come up with something new and he didnt show to the game. Reason #289 why I hate weeb shit in games.

My exposure to the concept has been entirely what the people watching that kind of anime regurgitate onto the game table. Take that as you will.

My only exposure is Samurai Flamenco making fun of the genre, and one random shit like this appearing at my game store every fucking time.

Go look at the /mgcyoa/ thread for a moment.
Granted, there's a lot of garbage, but there are also plenty of serious and thought-through characters without an ounce of sexualization.
Recent magical girl series (spearheaded by Madoka Magica, as much as it makes me sound like a Thai weeaboo to mention it) have had fewer and fewer sexualized elements, and sometimes none at all (as is the case with Madoka), in favor of focus on an actual story and actual moral questions.
You're trying to argue against a concept that you've only brushed up through tentacle porn, and now you're projecting that image onto the entire subgenre.

Tell me how watching cute girls fight monsters and talk about cute things is any way better than absolutely-anything-else.

>I (being a cleric of course) decded the bimbo zombies had to burn im cleansing fire to put them out of their misery

>because killing the ultimate evil when it is weakened and trying to monologue is something absolutely no right-minded individual would do, and doing it means you're being THAT GUY

There is literally nothing wrong with being sensible, which pretty much means being "genre savvy".

My first GM game used Fuzion. All the players were Idol Singers.
Except for the mafia contacts and drug abuse it was pretty much Scooby Doo.

What, the player memorized all of it, or the character?

Because if he didn't know that shit beforehand and sat down and learned himself a good book then he's probably one of the most dedicated motherfuckers I've ever seen.

He was doing it anyways as part of a bible study pledge he started six months earlier. He finally finished memorizing all 150 chapters of psalms around 3 months after he pitched this character.

Thats the thing though. Im not griping at those weebs to stop what they're doing. Im griping because everytime I try to play a game of D&D the party is always: Cleric, Knight, Wizard, Samurai Half-Dragon Loli with a Transformation Jutsu, Rogue. Its people who a.) shit up the game by inserting fetish into the game (i have no doubt that on Veeky Forums a magical girl quest thread is of the upmost quality such a thing can be, no sarcasm. But when its in a game store D&D campaign its always terrible) b.) DMs who either dont stop that from happening or use it at an excuse to inject more filth. These people are shit who deserve shit. I am just honestly exasperated that every singgle time this happens. I have tons of fun DMing, but just once id like to find a roup to play a serious old school DnD game. Not saying people shouldnt havediffrent tastes or even weird pedo hang ups, just keep it out of games that dont warrant that shit.

The preacher actually sounds pretty cool, minus the dead relatives part. Can be fun with a good writer.

>dude actually keeping his pledge

Hey, still more dedicated than half the people I know.

>I don't like fun: the post

> implying you have played 65 RPG campaigns in your life time.

No offense but you people annoy me. The type who whine for new content even though they haven't even played half the classes in the players handbook, and want to make all these weird-ass settings, when there is plenty to do in regular fantasy.

If your game is boring, it is not because of the setting, it is because you are a boring group. Quit dismissing everything that isn't 1940s post-modernist ironic steampunk based on MC Escher sketches and 1500s chinese culture, as cliche. God fucking damn.

I am sorry to insult you but this kind of shit pisses me off. People make settings that barely even make sense to me instead of just making a regular interesting fantasy setting we want to play in.

I see what you're saying, that mahou shoujo are inconsistent with the tone of D&D and contrary to the spirit of the game. But at the same time, too damn bad.

The rules of D&D/Pathfinder can easily accommodate saifuku-wearing superheroes, and sadly there's narrative space for it in the Dungeonpunk, genre-mixing clusterfucks that exemplify D&D/PF settings. Combined with the fact that people want to play it, it's guaranteed to come up. Don't like it? Well, victims aren't we all.

>game store D&D campaign
Found the problem

>1940s post-modernist ironic steampunk based on MC Escher sketches and 1500s chinese culture
I like your style.

Well he did try to bring up a talking point by saying how he interpreted op's post differently than many others, regardless of how right or wrong he is

Unlike you, of course

Tell that to Zod's snapped neck

Not him but I'm so sick of tryhard trope-subverting "look how clever I am" "different for the sake of different" bullshit that I'd fucking kill to just have one goddamn generic fantasy game.

>wanting dungeonpunk
>not wanting Gygaxian realism, mythic underworld, fantasy fucking Vietnam

lol gay

> justifying degenerate monster girl weebs
Gross.

Things that never happned for fifty.

>Transform, using sailor moon as an example
Eh, That fucking works. I personally bring up genocide when I first meet people. I don't want to waste time if you get ass hurt on such weak topics.

God i hope this is true, ohhoho the dragon arm wrapped in chains (to contain its ungodly power im sure) The werewolf vampire bursting out of it's mother seems too far gone to be real but maybe psychotic autism is really that rampant

Doesn't seem that unlikely user.
Doesn't make OP any less of a butthurt baby though.

>plays aggressively open system designed to be modded to shit.
>Is surprised when people do weird things in it.

Though the person OP is talking about should be burned as a false prophet. Supporting Pathfinder should actually be a crime.

>That aside why doesnt anyone ever wanna just play a normal fantasy setting?

Not to suggest weeb or other strange settings are that great, but I'm absolutely sick of generic high fantasy settings. But alas, I can't convince any local players to play Shadowrun or WoD or CoC.

Underrated post. Let people enjoy their things.

Doesn't change the fact that you approached a random stranger, inquired about his game, then got assblasted when he told you about it, and how he relates it to another of his interests.
That is autistic user.

>Hi I like videogames
>hey I like videogames as well. Pet me tell you about the gigabyte of porn "games" I have on my laptop.

OP is a magic girl in denial so funny

>In what fucking realm is it okay to bring up magical girls the first time you talk to someone about anything?

Have you been on Veeky Forums long? Most of the Pathfinder generals have some cheesecake'y anime girl for the OP image. I'm not saying it doesn't make me cringe too, but I thought we would all be used to it by now. I know how you feel though. It even plagues my main board (/sp/), but this is afterall, a chinese cartoon image board.

>Hi I like videogames
>I like videogames too, one of my favorites is [weebshit anime grils]!
>I dislike [weebshit anime grils] because [improper, illogical reason], goodbye
that is far closer to the example given in the OP than what you have just said

>That aside why doesnt anyone ever wanna just play a normal fantasy setting?

Attention whoring. Generic campaigns (which I prefer myself) don't bring the same attention as weird shit.

Sounds like you have a problem.

Just saying politely goodbye is a fairly decent way of handling it.

As a resident of SA, that is the strangest thing I've seen in many months. And that's from the perspective of being here for nearly 10 years.

Sorry, but if you can't invent interesting characters and plots in a generic fantasy setting, you're not a good GM.

You're relying essentially on the gimmick of the month.

>Preacher who gains special powers depending on what type of sin was committed in the area recently

Had he just left it at that, I could honestly say it would be one of the better character ideas I've heard in a long time.

That's some complex shit. Sounds neat.

He's probably throw a fit if Hi character died.

Spurs have a star player named Kawhi Leonard on their team, so naturally in an /sp/ spurs game thread, they'd all rather spell it Kawaii and post anime whenever he does something notable in a game.

Chances are a GM that is good enough to invent actually interesting characters and not just ones that he thinks are interesting also has better taste than to use generic fantasy.

Not at all. The genericness actually allows to shift the focus on character interaction and plot instead of distracting from that through gimmicky world elements.

You had me, and I agreed with you, all the way up until you started describing your previous experiences.
>a.) have to be a cleric because everyone else wanted to be edgelord Hari Kari Sunshine or Tomoko with Spawn powers
>b.) be subject to the DMs wet dream of the week.

If these were experiences at all, I wouldn't have batted an eye at the magical girl line. But they're not. I've played in more groups than a care to count. Sure I've seen a few edgelords in my time, but hardly the majority.
... And that's about it. Never had the piss-forest DM or little girl fetishes in my ... 17? Years of playing. Ever.

As far as I'm concerned its all just this weird shit that Veeky Forums makes up, that makes humorous reading.

>The Point
Where and what do you people do that find these "people"?

>In what fucking realm is it okay to bring up magical girls the first time you talk to someone about anything
Can't help you user.
But your story did remind me of one I'll pretend is Veeky Forums related.

>Be me
>Go early to big gaming convention with bro
>Bro wants to have some beers first because he can't bring them in
>They're not letting people in yet anyway
>Whynot.jpg
>Bunch of other bros our little section of huge parking lot are chilling too
>All bros welcome
>Beers are shared
>One bro is handing out gourmet sausages heated on tiny /k/ grill
>Never seen strangers become instant bros before
>Best possible mood
>One shy dude hasn't said one word
>Circled in from outside group
>Looks nervous
>Skinny blonde kid looks like he's trying to join in on one of the many topics being discussed
>When he does speak, it is the worst introduction to amicable strangers I have ever heard outside of Veeky Forums
>Boy, it sure is great to get together away from all the niggers, isn't it?
>group silent wut
>Mood gone
>Everyone else awkwardly goes to their separate cars, packs up, and goes inside
>Blonde kid looks like he knows he dun goofed but can't work out how

>Boy, it sure is great to get together away from all the niggers, isn't it?

My sides

>Things that never happened for 300-
wait no
>Things that never happened for 100

>Where and what do you people do that find these "people"?

Could be that people who complain about everyone around them are terrible that guy snowflake magical realmers are just turbo-autists with no imagination who consider everything that's not in their pet selection of archetpes a magical realm.

If you can't focus on gimmicky world elements and character interaction and plot all, you're a bad GM.

No, that's not true. While an occasional gimmicky element can break things up, a game, just like a novel or a movie, benefits from focus.

>Anything not generic
>Attention whoring.
It's like you people don't even read the festering shit you spew

You're just mad because it's true. People who feel the need to make "gonzo fantasy" settings or settings with some insane "wacky" gimmick or "subvert the tropes" when they're world building are only doing it because they aren't confident enough in their ability to make an actually interesting setting without some overt gimmick but still want cheap, instant gratification in the form of attention from people who are easily entertained. "Unique" setting are basically insular safe spaces for attention whores, both GMs who want asspats for reading tvtropes and players who need to play their magical girl oni half fae princess bullshit

There has never been a person who started their setting pitch with "my world is different from generic fantasy because" and not been a festering hive of attention whoring

...
