"Actions yield results" - House Stancaster

Oath of the Divine Pilgrim
1. Worship the Gods
2. Subsist on Alms
3. Purify with the Thurible

"Emperor, bestow upon me your righteous fury and your furious strength,
Let me be the storm that blasts the enemy from your sight."

Pretty sure that's in the Uplifting Primer somewhere.

"Look onto the face of your soldiers, see how they're scared. Scared for their lives and the outcome, they have seen friends, brothers and their own flesh gone before their eyes. See them not as machines of doom, warriors that will bring the end, but as your clan, your family, your flesh. Do good onto them and they will bring you to the end of this war."-Warmaster Twinsteir the Engolden

"It is our duty to stand and fight. We are the only ones who can." - Admari the Rook, founder of the Iron Company

"Knowledge is power and power corrupts" -Some Inquisitor

This.

I like this.

In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to show the way. -Warhammer 40,000 3rd Edition Rulebook

If you are prepared to fight, you are prepared to die. If you are prepared to die, you are prepared to kill.
-Dude from my campaign

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. If it's worth doing right, it's worth doing right the first time.

- my old not!Undead skeleton miner character-

>Dat House name

"I've fought four rearguard actions, soldiers. The last against a harrying vanguard of horse-borne spearmen, they did not break me. These are frightened rabble running from the whips of their Masters behidn them, stand firm and you will see your wives and children again. Raise shields and to the line!"

-Last words of Master Sergeant Boran Helstrome of the Pontoon Footsloggers.
His death attributed to spontanious combustion.

"Safety is the illusion for which we give our lives."
-Dhalikastra's motto

"Beyond Death"
-Inscripted on all the war scythes of the Ordo Athanatoi. All but one of its knights are undead.

"The barbarians channel their Rage into explosions of violence. They are amateurs. The Ideal Warrior always uses its Rage, to fight, to march, to determinate."
-Fourth Command of Camulus.

"We protect the people, that they may know the comfort of stone and the safety of steel" - City guard in my setting.

For some context "comfort of stone" and "safety of steel" are phrases used pretty commonly by the main church in this setting

"I am a reluctant soldier.
I do not wish to kill.

There are those who march to fight, to win,
I never will

I am a reluctant soldier
I do not wish to kill.

Pass by my gate, my state, my home
I will not stop you as you roam.

I am a reluctant soldier.
I do not wish to kill.

Yet if you threaten me and mine,
Be assured:

I will."
- Chant of the City Guard.

"We Don't Drop"
- Motto of the Drop Trooper regiment

"Nourish The Fields"

"Why would you stand against darkness and death? Well, err.
Someone has to"
--

Oh, I've always been a fan of this one from WHFB:

"Nearly five hundred years ago, a man like me killed a monster like you.
It can be done again"."

"Fuck the sea and everything in it."

...

And aren't dolphins a bunch of cunts

"Ashes to Ashes, Blood to Blood." - The oath of the Dragon's Blood Covenant, who purify the weaknesses of the flesh and spirit through religious observation, guided meditation and partaking of the pyre dragon's ashen blood to become a vessel for its strength, piety and righteousness.

"Always towards the dawn." - The oath of the Dawnbreakers, who go out into the accursed endless night to bring death to the deathless fiends that lurk in the eternal dark, ever vigilant that someday they and those they protect will stand beneath the sun once more.

"We must be the angels." - The motto of the city guard of a theocracy's capital. As the people of their city pray for peace and safe journeys every day, the guard acts to see that their prayers are answered.

"We're never far." - The motto of the Brave Legion, a remnant of the age of earthbound gods, world-ending monsters and legendary heroes. Recognizing that they could not stand against all the world's evil themselves, they strove to make the journeys of other heroes easier, mostly by maintaining forts along the road, keeping base camps and aiding their charges against wandering monsters. Today, they offer their services to any travelers in need to aid on their journeys, to ensure that no one's journey must be made alone.

Die well.

Come and take them.

"It's not about knowing how to break the rules, it's about knowing which rules to break."

>King of kings, bearer of the five truths, may you be the one-faced sun, guiding light to guilt and grace, and shine upon four devil's graves
-- Inscription upon the ceremonial blade of the emperor

It makes more sense in context, and in it's conlang. Basicly says "be awesome and go conquer the world".

This felt appropriate somehow.

>Cattle die,
>kinsmen die
>you yourself die;
>I know one thing
>which never dies:
>the judgment of a dead man's life.
(Or various appoimations thereof)

...

"Give me, my God, what you still have;
give me what no one asks for.
I do not ask for wealth, nor success,
nor even health.
People ask you so often, God, for all that,
that you cannot have any left.
Give me, my God, what you still have.
Give me what people refuse to accept from you.
I want insecurity and disquietude;
I want turmoil and brawl.
And if you should give them to me,
my God, once and for all,
let me be sure to have them always,
for I will not always
have the courage to ask for them."

Prayer of the Commando.

"Woe unto you, man who worships not the Omnissiah, for ignorance shall be your doom"

"I DUG MY GRAVE IN THIS PLACE AND I SHALL EITHER TRIUMPH OR DIE!"

You must yell this on top of your lungas at your approaching enemies, or it doesn't work.

"I fear no death nor pain, for I am already dead and pain is a burden of the living" - My undead Paladin when threatened

...

"Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"

- Donald Trump, after becoming US president.

Warriors die on the battlefield, not around a stone.
-Warsmith Gallardi, in response to his people's lack of monuments

"I am the punishment of God. If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you."

Like 99% of these are uninspired shit.

Where'd you come up with that number?

99% seems off.

On further review, there are 38 quotes in this thread, give or take one.

If 99% of them are uninspired, that means that only 0.38 of the quotes in this thread are, in fact, inspired.

So which 0.38 is it, if I may ask?

"Hold your praise. I'm no hero, I just do my job. You as well might have called me villain if somebody else hired me."

Actually though, how do you measure the 0.38, when you consider it?

I mean, not all the quotes are the same length, do you just abstract each quote as 1, and then divide the quote by that with it's own self contained length? Or should you consider the length in a more objective sense, with longer quotes being worth more than 1?

Then we need to establish a baseline quote length, however, a meter for the measurement of quotes. So which do we use in the gathered data? Should we just take every quote and then make the baseline the one closest to the average length? However, then you're creating issues of following quotes: What if our quote sample isn't average? It throws the entire measurement out of wack.

Maybe we decide based on the highest quality quote present? It seems like that would be a good way of determining out "1", but then we come back to the issue of 99% of the quotes in this thread being unworthy of the title.

Hold on, I'm going to have to think about this.

"No oath, no loyalty. Walk free."

The mountain of knowledge is scaled to see new horizons. You will never reach the summit, and if you think you did, you are a fool.

The Candle Knights

Oh, I forgot to say, the issues with abstraction is that some quotes simply can't translate very well because of it.

Take, for example, It provides the quote "Die well." Including the period, that quote is 8 characters long, so 1% of it would be 0.08 of the quote. Does that mean you might possibly find, say, 60% of the lowercase e to be inspiring? How do you evaluate that, however? Like, do you find 60 of the e(or any other letter, for that matter) inspiring by itself(in which case then more than 0.38 of the quotes in this thread are inspiring!) or does it require context of the other letters around it(in which case you're requiring more than 1% of the quote to be inspired!).

No, abstraction doesn't work.

The one that gives me the most feels:

"For Tanith, for the Emperor!"

Is that a samurai centaur?

"I don't promote violence, I just encourage it."

"You only live once, fuck it, you might as well die now."

"Life is just a free fall out of the vagina into the grave."

"You know what shit is, darling? Well, compared to my life, it's candy corn."

True power lies not in wealth, but in the things it affords you

Fear and cowardice — harbingers of demise. Strength and the will to fight will lead you to the prize.
(Exodus, "Hammer and Life")

Let laying Gods lie.

In the setting I'm working on, a historical figure remembered only as the Conquering King marched across the land, leading his army in defiance of the gods, destroying chapels and breaking religious icons in his wake. Eventually, he found a forgotten region of the land, teeming with demons and other evil creatures on the verge of invasion. Leaving behind a rearguard to ensure the safety of his lands, he marched his most loyal men into the despoiled land to pre-emptively strike the wickedness within. None returned from that venture, but in his legacy, the rearguard established a series of fortresses to contain the cursed realm.

It's said that on the eve of his last march, the King's advisors urged him to reconsider, saying that each step into that land could mean his death.

All that he responded with was, "Then I shall take longer strides."

The words "Longer strides" are often quoted by modern knights, warriors and even citizens before delving into a risky situation, invoking the courage and determination of the much-reviled king.

fuck, i think fallout 4's intro may have been the most disappointing part

this isn't mine i'm just paraphrasing it and changing it slightly to fit, but i loved this speech.

In the ancient war the gods, the elves, the orcs, and all the other races fought and we fought among them and survived! Why is it that this whole continent was once ruled by humans?

Is it because we are a race that specializes in violence? We can't use magic like the Aisimar or Teiflings, nor are we physically strong like the Orcs, and we do not have the longevity of the Elves. Why were we able to rule the continent? Is it because we were masters of war?

I tell you it was not!

We fought and survived, because we are weak! The strong polish their fangs while the weak polish their wits.We are the weak, just as we have always been. Indeed, nothing has changed at all. Why do we bow our heads?

I say again WE ARE THE WEAK! We are the proud weak, who have throughout history torn out the throats of those who sit back and boast of their strength! We will live as the weak, fight as the weak, and as the weak we will destroy the strong! Accept the fact that we are the weakest race, the ones that can become anything, because we were born with nothing. you have suffered enough, no longer, this day we declare war on the strong!

When winter comes for war, You shall hear no Lions roar. When winter forces you to yield, No Stags shall graze upon the field. When winter creeps upon you from the shadows, No Roses shall bloom from the meadows. When winter wreaks havoc on the land, You can bet there'll be no Snakes in the sand. When winter brings to life all it finds grim, The Krakens will freeze where they swim. When winter sets and the land begins to shiver, The Flayed Man will start to rot and wither. When winter fights to the last sliver, No more Trouts shall swim in the river. When winter ravages and all despair, No Falcons shall fly high in the air. When winter shows you what happens when snow falls, Not even Dragons Breath shall warm you in your halls. When winter comes with all it's might, Only the Wolves shall howl in the night.

A good one for wannabe paladins struggling with the concept of lawful good, "We may in counsel point to a higher path, but we must not force any free creature to walk upon it. For that is tyranny, which disfigures good and makes it seem hateful."

"Pale as the reaper!" - Battle cry of the Moon Warriors

>Lo there do I see my father; Lo there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers; Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call me, they bid me take my place among them, in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever.

"We beg because we refuse to take, we beg so we are not the thieves we once were. We strive to cast off the black that stain our hearts, to mend the wounded and wound the wicked. That's from Redwall, right?

Is it daunting to be a twenty one year old in a twenty one century old organisation? Nope. Not at all. Tradition is a good thing. The loyalty between templars may be old fashioned, but it is absolute,

Once you are with us, you will never stand alone. For we are the lions of the secret world. When we roar, everyone listens.

Structure, discipline, miitary might. That's how you fight the rising darkness.

Age doesn't matter when the cause is timeless.
