/cofd/&/wodg/ Chronicles of Darkness and World of Darkness General

You know the drill by now.

Obligatory thread question: What is the creepiest encounter you've had while playing WoD (in or out of game, doesn't matter).

Since it was practically the last post in the last thread I'm re-posting this here:

Hmm. Shadow fits even better for Nemesis. Both because of the Shadow Realm, and because he hides the results of their actions from humans... So with that in mind, here is my proposed list:

The Chancellor: Greed (I'm also considering Wealth, since he also rules the Pantechnicon. Another kind of wealth there)
The Psychopomp: Mourning (He claims to control what comes after death)
The Nemesis: Shadow (Double meaning mentioned above)
The Raptor: Predation (Instinct might also fit fine)
The Prophet: Awe (In the traditional sense of course)
The Ruin: Despair (Nothing You Do Will Matter! Yeah, pretty despair-filled)
The Gate: Void (Iä! Iä! Chtulhu f'tagn!)

Now we just need to figure out mechanics for all these.

Also, thinking on it, shouldn't the ruin and prophet switch Arcanas?

Fate feels a lot better for the one who rises above the rest, while Time fits better as the eventual destroyer of everything.
Destiny for one, "nothing lasts forever" for the other.

In my Mage games, Exarchs did a piss poor job at rewriting time line, and while Atlantis never existed, there are still plenty of ancient temples, sunken cities and sub-dimensions of ancient mages. Moreover, there are rumors that entire Altantis is existing in the depths of the Abyss, and many mages go full Scelesti to find real Atlantis with all it's magical secrets.

So Atlantis is like Alhambra from Princess? Pretty neat, Alhambra is one of the cooler things about Princess.

In some way, yes. My players made a theory that Oracles cut out Altantis as part of their fight with Exarchs, but they didn't won and thus couldn't paste it back to reality, so they "buffered" it into Abyss for savekeeping.

Slasher, definitely of the Avenger undertaking.

I'm sure that question has been asked a hundred times since second edition of MtAw came, but here it goes. I've read the first edition book, but I'm not very fluent in the setting. My player don't know the setting at all. Are there any cool ready-made adventures for me too run? What are good ways to start a campaign for newbies who will require a lot of hand-holding?

No idea what Alhambra is, but here is what Atlantis is:
In the Time Before, a nation of Awakened existed.
Someone fucked up badly (the Exarchs are generally blamed/praised for this).
As a result the Awakened nation got removed, retroactively from reality.
But the removal was a shoddy job, and bits and pieces of it stayed behind.
From these bits and pieces later mages pieced together the story.
They used Plato's metaphor of the destroyed super-kingdom as a name for it.

slasher slasher slasher!

I'm aware of how Atlantis works. The person in question is saying that in their setting, Atlantis exists somewhere trapped within the Abyss, and that certain Scelesti indulge in Abyssal magic to try to return Atlantis to power. That's more or less how Alhambra and the Princesses of Tears work in Princess. Alhambra is essentially the Princess version of Atlantis, the last great and beautiful city.

It's trapped in the inner surface of a bubble that protects it from nothingness, constantly raining and dreary, and lit only by lamplight that holds back the oblivion of Darkness. The City is populated by ghosts, who remain among the dead and advise the living.

princesswod.wikia.com/wiki/Alhambra

>The streets are silent. Nobody will talk to you as you pass by, but to duck their heads and continue on. They glance up very seldom, except to check that the lamps are all lit; a lamp in Alhambra invites citizens to look up, just once, to make sure that the starved green holy light they produce is still bright. They never linger too long on one lamp, because to keep looking is to see the vacant sky and the faint impression of buildings, far away. The light only shines so far, and maybe this time, when you look up, something made from feather-shadow and the bones of birds will drop on you from above. It could happen, if you keep looking up. So you look down.

>Welcome to Alhambra. Try not to think about the sun. It will only make you homesick.

What's great is that The Queen of Tears is the only one of the Queens who's still present and around. She also leads one of the Twilight Princess groups and is hellbent on ensuring that Alhambra survives, no matter the cost to the "Rebellious Provinces" of the real world. The idea of Mages who are willing to let the Fallen World fall further if it means restoring or maintaining Atlantis is pretty great.

Ah right. Apologies, I just went on a rant because of all the idiots who can't go beyond LoLAquaman.

Didn't someone post their ideas for the Sword, Crown and Temple of Gate? I personally find it easier with Prelacies to sort out the Crown and then do Sword and finally Temple.

>Raptor
>Crown of Predation
The Crown of Predation is tied to Blood Magic, be it the blood magic of mages, or the Sorceries used by the Kindred.

So yeah, Raptor promotes alliances with the Kindred, his Sword should grant Yantras for bloodletting. Not sure about his Temple though. Also if he get a ministry, it should be called the Ministry of the Maw.

>Didn't someone post their ideas for the Sword, Crown and Temple of Gate? I personally find it easier with Prelacies to sort out the Crown and then do Sword and finally Temple.

Yeah. That was me. Add [something] to the Gnosis dice pool when controlling paradox.
Could be Space, Seer Status, or Initiation within the Secret Order (if one wants to make it a Mystery Cult, something I kind of like).

I also had some ideas for letting the Raptor get more Mana from Sacrifices, +Life, or something like that.
And personally, I'd call it the Ministry of the Hunt, and theme it closer to Werewolves, if anything.

>Didn't someone post their ideas for the Sword, Crown and Temple of Gate? I personally find it easier with Prelacies to sort out the Crown and then do Sword and finally Temple.

Also. Sword and Temple are the same for all Exarchs, it's just the Crown that changes.

>And personally, I'd call it the Ministry of the Hunt, and theme it closer to Werewolves, if anything.
Fair dos, maybe it's a bit of both?

>Also. Sword and Temple are the same for all Exarchs,
Ah but it's the requirements/results of the Sword and Temple that are different. Lets take Chancellor

>Sword: Use a random valuable thing for Yantras. this destroys the random valuable thing.
>Crown: Use your dot in Resources in place of your dots in Status when dealing with Sleepers (Everyone has a price)
>Temple: Verge gives a negative dice modifier relative to the Resource dots of the Seer who created ( I think this was how it worked.)

>Verge gives a negative dice modifier relative to the Resource dots of the Seer who created
*to any Mage casting Supernal magic near it.

I can't brain.

Here is the mechanics of how the various merit dots work:

Chosen Vessel (•): your character gains the Persistent Mystery Commands Condition.
Sword (••): The character may use the patron Exarch’s symbolism as a patron Yantra in spellcasting, worth half her Prelacy dots in dice (round up).
Crown (•••): The character gains an Attainment based on her Exarch’s symbolism.
Temple (••••): If one of your character’s soul stones is incorporated into a Demesne, the Demesne becomes a Supernal Verge keyed to her Exarch, inhabited by Supernal Entities loyal to the Throne. Including soul stones from Seers with Prelacy linked to a different Exarch causes the Temple to collapse and immediately destroys all soul stones involved.

Having the resources as penalties sounds a bit wimpy for a bloody Supernal Verge.

So this is where I was going off the rails and over a cliff!

>Having the resources as penalties sounds a bit wimpy for a bloody Supernal Verge.
Blame me not remembering the exact details correctly, but the jist may have been the Supernal being ignored in favor of the Materiel, or something along those lines.

I know for a fact that the Temple of Void creates a hole into the Space Between (or to put another way, a stonking great hole into the Abyss that anything can come out of)

Camilla here, I know you guys don't like me. And to be honest, I've stopped caring. I do feel kind of bad that I was such a dick to you guys over this 1e vs. 2e debate. While I still will only use 1e for my games, if you guys prefer 2e, fine by me. I'll just play 1e Requiem with the emotional deadness removed and you can play 2e however you want. Live and let live.

But I do need some advice in crafting a 1e game that is a crossover of Vampire: The Requiem and Changeling: The Lost. I'm trying to think of how to tie Changeling into the plot I have come up with. The basic concept for the plot is about a turf war between covenants with the Ordo Dracul and Circle of the Crone on one side, and the Lancea Sanctum and Invictus on the other. But I want to somehow tie Changeling into it as well, though I'm not sure how.

Should I not bother with Changeling and just focus on Vampire? Or should I think of a way to tie the Courts into this Covenant turf war?

I'm legit confused here. Also, here's some yaoi.

Question for /wodg/, what kind of refreshments do you have at your gaming table when playing WoD or CofD?

For me, I usually go with Pepsi MAX, Mountain Dew, and when I'm specifically playing Vampire, Mountain Dew Code Red.

If we want something a little harder to take the edge off, then either Bud Lite, Redd's Apple Ale, Yuengling, or Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill.

Which Courts are you using? Seasonal, Directional, Temporal (Day &Night, Dawn &Dusk) or your own custom Courts?

Seasonal

>I know for a fact that the Temple of Void creates a hole into the Space Between (or to put another way, a stonking great hole into the Abyss that anything can come out of)

Not "know for a fact", since that's not stated anywhere, except the last thread (as an idea), as far as I know.
Irises to The Place Between can spawn in Abyssal Verges. And I think the Temples to the Gate fit as well.

Anyhow, looked it up, all the Swords have two benefits. I'll have to think of a second one for Sword of the Void.

I also think that the Secret Order works better as a hidden Nameless Order, working inside the Seers, than it does a Legacy, myself. I'll throw out the ideas for it if you want to.

Camilla confirmed for American, it seems.

Yup, American born and raised. Originally from Boone, North Carolina. Currently living in the middle of nowhere in Virginia, but gonna be moving back to Boone in about three or four weeks.

Also, here's some more yaoi. This time it's relevant to the conversation.

Stat us, /wodg/

I'll just put my hands up right now and say I have no clue what I'm doing.

3 hours to the Pack

Give me cornbread when I'm hungry
Corn whiskey when I'm dry
Bishie anime guys can swarm around me
Sweet Heaven when I die

But seriously, I'm wondering how to tie the Seasonal Courts into my Requiem game.

Holy shit, even when you aren't going on about how terrible the game that you don't understand is, you're still being insufferable. It's fucking 10:30am. No one is going to answer your question.

Please go away.

No, I will not go away.

Sorry for my insufferable behavior, I am a little drunk right now. I got bored and downed a lot of Jameson this morning so forgive me if I'm posting some bullshit.

The fact I can type coherenly is a miracle. If I take another drink, we could probably kiss that goodbye.

Fuck, I need to lay down.

Camilla confirmed for being an alcoholic

You need to go away, not because we don't like you (which we don't, but you seem aware of that) but because you clearly have a drinking problem if you're downing hard liquor at 10:30 in the morning out of boredom.

Come back when you've sobered up and can lay off the yaoi bullshit. Then I'll answer your questions, sound fair?

i was browsing the "werewolf: the forsaken" tag on tumblr.
i was only a little bit disappointed.

What is it with this thread and gay werewolves?

I'll be honest, Carmilla may be an insufferable weaboo drunk, but I'll take him over Aspel's self-righteous "progressive" pseudo-intellectual bullshit. Both are insufferable, but Carmilla's weeb gangster bullshit is marginally less so, since his line of thought isn't hurting society and the media at large. Aspel's line of thought is.

Though I'd be happier if both of them fucked off and never posted on here again.

The only shitposter I can stand is atamajakki since he's actually a nice guy and friendly about his stuff.

Aspel is a self-righteous SJW like you said

Carmilla is an annoying insufferable weeb who may or may not be autistic, is resistant to change even if benefits him, and he definitely needs to lay off the booze.

Then you have the Mage supremacists, the oWoD nostalgiafags, and all the other less prominent yet equally annoying shitlords.

>muscular men, often without shirts
>powerful, animalistic instincts
>rage-filled submission & domination
>hairy

one wonders

tumblr, you disappoint me yet again.

Aspel is technically an insufferable SJW, but the insufferability and SJW-ness are separate. His social views are fine, he's just an obnoxious person in general.

Fair point

True, but combine SJW views with an insufferable personality and you get something that I don't want stinking up my gaming discussions with their crusader bullshit.

>Not linking it

When people out of nowhere call me self-righteous, I tend to assume they're salty over being corrected.

Just from that information it could be hetero lycanthrope banging.

aspel just can't stand a conversation that isn't about themselves. so yes, obnoxious.

>oWoD nostalgia fags

Which reminds me, am I the only one here besides Carmilla who doesn't like Martin Ericsson? I mean, Carmilla's immense hatred for him is irrational and stems from the whole dislike of all things gothic, but I don't like him because of his smug attitude and his dismissive and frankly rude treatment of CofD and its fans.

He says "Requiem should have been axed" and I say he's an insufferable douchebag.

I mean, this guy is the reason why we'll never get any video game or other media adaptations of Chronicles of Darkness, and then the dickheads at By Night Studios refuse to update the LARP rules for CofD, making the whole thing even worse.

Why do people still cling to oWoD when nWoD/CofD is clearly superior in both mechanics and thematics?

Agreed

It's that incessant need to correct everyone and police their exact wording that makes everyone in this thread hate you.

It was gay!

Yup

Aspel is a colossal douche, and while Carmilla is god-awful in his own way, he at least has a drinking problem, is somewhat aware of people's dislike of him, and most likely has some form of autism and other mental illnesses as well (which would be further compounded by his alcoholism). While that definitely doesn't excuse his behavior, it at least explains it.

Why Aspel is so obnoxious is beyond me. I can't think of any explanation for his narcissism and overall dickish behavior.

How is it narcissism when I'm not the one who brought me up :V

When did he say Requiem should have been axed? He's actually said that nWoD was a better roleplaying game system, but that oWoD is a better licensed property. I don't really agree with him on either of those. Though it is true that he seemed quick to remind nWoD fans that he owns them and it was by his graciousness and generosity that it wasn't canceled.

Does By Night Studios really matter, though? I thought the LARP's rules were just rock paper scissors, or only a d10+ or something.

What crusader bullshit would you be worried about, precisely? I'm curious to see whether you'd want to forbid me as well.

I think he said in one of his interviews about wishing Requiem would be axed. His attitude towards nWoD fans is pretty shitty like you said.

Also, while oWoD has extensive LARP support from both the old White Wolf days in the 90's and the new stuff from By Night Studios, nWoD does not.

White Wolf did produce MET adaptations of the Mortals corebook and Vampire: The Requiem back in 2005, but the MET adaptations were cut short when CCP bought White Wolf. Werewolf and Mage were planned, but never fully released (MET Mage did later get released as a PDF only supplement).

nWoD LARP as it currently stands uses a card-drawing mechanic instead of Rock Paper Scissors, and fortunately is similar enough to the tabletop mechanics that you can easily backport the other 1e gamelines.

But if you want LARP rules for the new 2e mechanics and gamelines, you're shit out of luck.

This. As much as I hope Carmilla would go away and leave these threads alone, I kind of pity him for the fact he desperately wants to like this game system yet doesn't fully realize he'd be happier if he let it go and just moved onto another system like D&D, FATE, or BESM.

I still think he's annoying and idiotic, and I do hope he'll eventually get the message and leave these threads though.

Aspel can go jump off a cliff for all I care. He is literally that obnoxious and holier-than-thou.

atamajakki is actually pretty cool and I like him.

Is anyone here willing to be the ST of a game i'm trying to get together. I'm rather new to the WOD so I would need a bit of help starting out. It would be a vampire game, the setting and choice of version would be up for discussion.

Maybe, you could try the Onyx Path forums. They have a whole sub-forum for finding games.

Basically arguing that people grow the fuck up when it comes to complaining about "inclusiveness".

How does this card draw mechanic work? Does everyone keep a deck of cards on them or something?

Essentially you use ordinary playing cards, 2-10, plus the Ace (the Ace represents a roll of 1). Each card is like a d10, and the number you draw is combined with your stats to determine the outcome of the challenge. It's been a long time since I've LARP'd nWoD, so my knowledge is a bit rusty.

I made an account there a week ago and the admins still haven't approved it so I can't post anything yet.

Well, I do believe that people should grow the fuck up when it comes to complaining about inclusiveness. The amount of whining over sidebars and the like has been quite unwarranted.

>His social views are fine, he's just an obnoxious person in general.
Before you say something like that you should appreciate that he is pro pedophilia.

I'm going to need some context for that statement.

So, as I said. I wanted to make the Secret Order of the Gate into a nameless order hiding within the Seers of the Throne itself. This is my first draft, what do you think?

Mystery Cult Initiation: The Secret Order of the Gate

• The Gatekeeper learns the first secrets of The Gate, and gains an Occult skill specialisation in The Abyss (or the Area of Expertise merit, if they already have it)
•• The Gatekeeper is initiated further into the mysteries, and is taught the secret ways of communication within the Secret Order, and gains the Language merit, teaching them the Parametric Language
••• Keeping the Order a secret is paramount. At this level, the Gatekeepers have been doing it long enough to earn an additional dot of Subterfuge.
•••• At this level, some part of the Gatekeeper is always in the Place Between, and gains Occultation •••
••••• At the pinnacle of the Mysteries of the Gate, the Gatekeeper can buy the Prelacy merit as it applies to the Gate. If they are already Prelates of another Exarch, the power of the 11th Iron Seal is such as to tear the Gatekeeper away from their former master, and take them as it's own servant.

I was thinking of presenting the Parametric Language as the Abyssal version of High Speech. Mechanically it'd be similar, but bumped up to +3 if using Abyssal magic, or specifically handling Abyssal entities. Can't be combined with High Speech.

It's even more irrelevant to WoD than the bitching about me already is, and it's hard to sum up in a short post. "Age of consent is arbitrary and dumb" is the jist of it, and has more to do with teens having sex with each other. Technically it would be pro-ephebophilia :V

I like it.

To build on this, I think this works pretty good as a Crown of the Void attainment:

The Gate (Secret Order of the Gate) grants the Crown of the Void. When a character invites Paradox into a spell they may add their Status (Seers of the Throne) dots to their Gnosis to control the paradox, additionally they may treat their Status (Seers of the Throne) dots as Honorary Rank when dealing with abyssal creatures.

I chose Status to hold out the weirdness of the Secret Order. If one wants to be more conservative, choose Space dots instead.

Ministry of the Paternoster?

Why would anyone use Find the Balance over Craftsman's Eye? By the time you can use FtB spending the reach for CE isn't as bad.

Because FtB is a buff on objects, Craftsman's Eye is a buff on yourself.

The pack is almost here. Any minute now.

Stupid question. In the Mage 2e book, where is the actual table for the Paradox dice for each level of Gnosis? The Paradox dice table just says "the dice amount listed for the character's Gnosis," but it doesn't say WHERE it's listed.

The Pack is here

On the same table where max mana per Gnosis is listed.

Wait, what. Is Ravening Wolf still a Pangaean?

First chapter covers diffrent aspects of the pack, showing them through four sample packs (posted here)

Ravening Wolf was never a Pangaean.
But she was always a Firstborn.

Huh, Garm killed Ravening Wolf.

Prolly.

Their Sacred Hunt bonus is real nice, so is the blessing

>vampire trying to fit in with werewolves

That's a neat take on werewolves, might hijack that for my hunter game.

I AM GANGREL AND IM GONNA DANCE ON YOUR TOLERANCE WOLFBITCH!

Wow this is fucking great. Fucking FINALLY it spells out the x y and z of vampire vs werewolf alliances and conflicts. This is great, I love it.

Thyrsus Dynasty of Wolfbloods when?

Nice.

Honestly he sound more like he was one of the First Pack.

No changelings in the pack? We can help too. Like hunt and bite and other stuff. Baka...
