This game is a text-based, player-driven RPG set in George R R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire Universe. A story is set up by the OP, and is played through by any number of players, with the maximum decided upon by the OP.

>Getting Started

To claim a spot, link a post stating you're doing so to the OP or the latest update. Your next step is to make a character. Follow the following template:

- Name
- Age
- Birthplace/Hometown
- Job/Position
- Weapons and equipments (can be anything, but can only provide a total bonus of 5 points)
- House/Faction (You can belong to any house, but if you belong to a major noble house you will have to be either a bastard or just be working for that house as whatever it is you are. No story specific characters; ie. Lords, kings, or any factions OP denies for story purposes from the start)
- Goal/Quest (Leave it blank and I will assume the character is free to do just about anything that is still relevant to the character.)
- Prefered Starting location (This is entirely up to where OP places you to give you a chance to team up with other characters, but if you are more of a loner character, he will have a better idea where to place you if you have a preferred location.)
- Short Description of the characters looks

>Flow of the game

At the start of each turn, the OP will provide an update. These updates contain replies from NPCs and results of your roll. To roll for an action, link to the update and formulate your action like this

Player>Action(Stat, specialization)

A roll of 7 will always be a success, with a 5 or 6 succeeding on mundane actions at OP's discretion. A roll of 0 is a critical success, and a roll of 1 is a critical failure. Other gets receive bonuses decided on by OP. A successful roll gives +1 to the stat it used, and a critical success gives +2. A critical failure gives -1. Stats cannot be negative.

For every 5 skill points a stat has invested in it, it receives a mastery point. This mastery point can be donated to any of the 3 specializations of the corresponding stat, with a maximum of 4 per specialization. Each mastery point gives a +1 to every roll using that specialization. Each stat can grow to give a maximum of 8 mastery points.

Also, sign every post with your character name, stat spread, and equipment bonuses.

>Equipment

Equipment is any item your character carries that provides a bonus to specializations. Each piece of equipment adds an amount of bonus points to a related specialization up to its maximum of 4. Adding equipment, however, does not take away from the stat's 8 mastery point maximum.
Valyrian steel doubles the growth and reduction rate of all stats, ie. a successful roll will increase skill points by 2, a 1 will decrease skill points by 2, a 0 will increase by 4.

claim

In addition, you must also roll for initial skill points. A roll of 2-3 gives 5 points, 4-5 gives 10 points, 6-7 gives 15 points, 8-9 gives 20 points, and a 0 gives 25 points. If you roll a 1, you can roll again. If you choose not to roll, you can take 10 points. You can distribute the skill points you rolled for among the stats available.

>Money

Money and economy play an important role in the world of ASoIaF. Money has the following values:
10 copper pennies == 1 copper star
50 copper stars == 1 silver stag
100 silver stags == 1 gold dragon
A player may start the game with any number of money up to and including 20 stags.

>Duels

A roll between two player characters, or a player character and an NPC with stats is treated as a duel. A single roll judges the outcome of this conflict, but the roll is interpreted differently. First, the roll must succeed normally with the appropriate stat bonuses. This determines whether or not the action is performed properly. Then, the total value of the roll of the attacking player (raw roll + bonuses) must be higher than the roll of the opposing party, plus their own bonuses. Even if the opposing party did not roll the same stat as the attacking player, the stat used by the attacker is used for this check. This check determines whether or not the performed action affects the other party as desired.
However, two characters in the same vicinity, whether they be player characters or NPCs, can speak with one another or cooperate without rolling to duel if they are in the same vicinity. All interactions can only occur between players in the same vicinity.

>Last notes

This is a roleplay-heavy game. As such, metagaming is STRICTLY forbidden. Metagaming is defined as performing an action in game based on knowledge that your character could not reasonably have gained. OP has the right to call out metagaming when it happens and bar anyone who does so from participating.
Similarly, OP is god. OP may suspend, modify, or add new rules as he/she sees fit. OP may limit any player from doing any action or receiving any item, if he/she deems it necessary. OP can also kick any player from the game for any reason. Conversely, as a player, if you notice OP is being unfair, feel free to call him/her out, fuck off to a new thread, and let the OP die in their own feces.

As this is a beta test, any input is appreciated, thank you, and gg!

>The Story thus far

Thirty years ago, stories that had long since become myth and vanished from the memory of all but the most insightful maesters became reality. When the Long Night ended 8000 years ago, and when it did, the horrors it brought with it were broken into three parts: The blissful ignorance of Sleep, the restricted terror of Silence, and the inevitable doom of Death. Eventually, 250 years after Aegon Targaryen's conquest of Westeros, these Three Nights found their way into the weaknesses that rested in the hearts of three men: a Dornish Prince who wished to free his people, an escaped slave whose heart was torn in two, and a jealous prince who yearned for his nephew's throne. At the wall, a bastard boy's bastard magic led an army of the long doomed across the North, tore Pyke to its foundation, and razed keeps across the Vale and the North. With this, and a struggle for the crown between King Daegon I and his uncle Jacaerys in the midst of a rebellion in Dorne, the Nights siezed the opportunity and cut deep scars in Westeros. Thanks to the deeds of the Night of Death, this jealous Prince Jacaerys, King's Landing and all the crownlands for miles around wasted away, crumbling under thousands of years of crippling age. However, the hero Benhart Umber took a blade imbued with the magic that brought the dead from their graves and drove it through his own heart, tying his existence to the blade, cursing him to live a life forever between life and death, in a limbo which proved to be the ultimate weakness of Death. Unable to properly be called alive or dead, this hero returned to his home in the North, to live forever with his family. However, this man's new life discontented many, calling him abomination, and rejecting him in the face of his own gods. 30 years have passed, and Benhart's parents have long passed, leaving him the head of House Umber.

Unmarried, with a brother and nephews who resent him for being unable to lose his seat, Benhart lives a life separate from what the hero truly deserves. In the new interim capital of Casterly Rock, King Daegon sits unloved, married to the Princess of Dorne, and ruling her land with an iron fist. All this is compounded by the ongoing revolts in the Free Cities controlled by a group known only as Ouroboros. They cry for the peoples' right to govern, and have swayed enough hearts in Pentos, Volantis, Norvos, Lys, and Myr for their citizens to wrest control of their homes away from those who they believe to be oppressing them. The new Lys and Myr prepare an assault on Tyrosh to sieze the city in the name of this new liberty, skirmishes between Norvos and Qohor have become commonplace, and Braavos' sovereignty is preserved only through its treaties with new lands. In an attempt to prevent these radical ideas from invading the Seven Kingdoms, King Daegon has invited a representative of the Ouroboros, an officer by the name of Lune, to Casterly Rock for an audience...

(So how do we roll for stats?)

The last number on your post is your roll going from 1 to 0 (0 is the best, 1 is the worst)

Simply roll, translate the number to the stats you wish, then follow the specialization guidelines outlined in the rules. The top bar is the stats, and the bottom bars are the specializations in the picture.

I'm going to claim a spot.

Okay, so I make a post saying I"m rolling and then work from there?

Okay, so I'm rolling in this post, then.

Perhaps you can tell me how to translate then?

9 is 20 points.

Rolling for stats I suppose?

>Henry Oakwood

They say that Westeros is a far different place from the East. However, the frigid port of Ib managed to somewhat prepare you for this new environment in Winterfell. However, your success here has been limited. Over the last 2 years, you made a killing selling pelts of wolves, bears, even the odd snowcat or two. However, the biggest money maker for you was always the direwolf pelts. But naturally, after he saw you were making a fortune to rival any lord in the North off of it, Winterfell's cuck of a lord, Jon Stark, threatened to have the Boltons skin you alive, took your money, and outlawed direwolf pelt trading. Since then, you've spent your days doing whatever meagre work Winter's Town allowed, avoiding the gaze of the Winterfell guards.

What do you do?
>Aenar Reyne

Each day you've stood by his side for the last two years, Lord Tyrel Lannister has only gotten more stone-faced and displeased. You've seen this face of his frequently since you were a child, but only recently have you noticed the exact reason he's made it. His chair, as lord of Casterly Rock, forever being next to and below the interim throne of King Daegon, in his own hall, and his own home of Casterly Rock. He shared no blood with the ruthless King, forced to house the monster purely by virtue of having money in his coffers and no knives pointing at the King's back. However, today was a special occasion. Come all the way from Volantis, a man in a simple grey cloak with a mask in the shape of a crescent moon stands before your King. "It is customary to kneel in the presence of a King, Lune," Daegon says. "Aye," The moon-faced man says, "but you are no king of mine. Your power is by blood, not by right."

What do you do?
>Part 1

>Ser Demien Lylard

You awake early in the morning and stand at your post, with each of your men posted guard around the keep. You, in particular are taking on the responsibility of monitoring the Gold Road, because today is a special day in the Westerlands. One of the men who helped to topple the Free Cities is to visit the King in Casterly Rock today, and it will be up to you to ensure the safety of Lylard Keep and to send outriders to Casterly Rock with the size of his entourage. Interestingly enough, though, only the usual merchants pass through today. Either the guest took a different route, or he was hiding amongst them. Perhaps this warrants further investigation?

What do you do?

Aenar had long known Lord Lannister, his father being a studious and loyal lord, though he had only been in his employ a few short months. With no lands to inherit, Aenar had to make do with what he had, and what he had was a Lord who needed eyes and ears around a Keep that was his only in name. If he could provide exemplary service, he might be granted a keep of his own or a comfortable marriage.

This man in grey seemed most interesting, and it fell to Aenar to learn all he could by observing.

You've too many specialisation stats (defence, combat and accuracy = 7, the max is 5).

The 20 you got can be split between the 6 stats at the very top. The ones under them are specialisations and you have 5 stats to distribute plus another 1 every time your "base" (the ones on top) increases by 5 (so at 5 strength you get +1, at 10 strength you get another +1) etc.

Sorry, forgot to include my stats and shit

King Daegon is visibly annoyed with this moon-faced Lune character standing before him. "I don't know what savage lands you hail from, but here in Westeros, blood IS right. 280 years ago to this very da--" he is cut off by Lune "Yes, yes, I know the story. A thousand years ago, my ancestor pulled a sword from a stone and the gods proclaimed him king. Interesting how nobody under him would have any say in it. Sure, the lords who would send their smallfolk to war submitted to Aegon's wrath, but what of those smallfolk? I suppose they submitted to their lords' wills, but only because they never knew any better. That is what the Ouroboros does, we open peoples' eyes to the cycle of blood and death and war and we show them a new way, a better way, where men may choose their own fates."

What do you do?
>Ser Gerris Goldtooth

If ever there was a time to be a hedge knight, the last 30 years have been that time. The Riverlands have been sending regular aid to the Iron Islands, the North, and the Vale for the last decades to help them rebuild from the war that decimated their landscapes, and all the lands that had men to spare were milking their prisons to send to the Night's Watch. This left many landed lords with plenty of gold, plenty of room, and plenty of work. Among the most active cities in the riverlands is your current residence, Maidenpool. Every day when you journey outside, you find countless devotees worshipping the weirwoods that have stood betwen Westeros and a withering miasma for 30 years. No ax has been able to touch them, but many a profiteer has. Almost outnumbering the devotees are the shady merchants who claim to be able to speak to the trees, selling divinations for coin.

While it was not Aenar's place to speak, he could not help but take this chance to solidify his position within Lord Lannister's household and making himself known to the King. He begun, "You speak like a commoner interested in a collective, where one man works with his own and the system of Lords abolished, but tell me - who guarantees their safety from outside forces? Who is it that will dispense justice when warranted, or make good their accounts for those who cannot read? What shall become of the writ and common law?" Aenar placed his hand upon his sword. "And who, pray tell, are you to speak like this in the House of Lord Lannister and to the King of Westeros?"

I do the same thing I do every morning... head to the local Sept and thank the Seven that I'm not dead yet. After lighting a candle for both the Warrior and the Stranger, I'll bid the Septon good day and head towards the seat of House Mooton, ruling house of Maidenpool.

You sit down to a dinner of pickled beets and herring. Nothing too extravagant, but spring rarely yields any masterpieces. Ser Rodrick Lylard sits at the head of the table. "I understand you have not found the expected visitor or his guard. I ask you then, son, what do you discern from this?"

"Nice try, boy. Summer's just around the corner." The guard pauses and considers a moment. He pushes you out the gates. "You won't find any direwolves out there anyway. Do what you will, commoner."

Lord Mooton's guards recognize you at first sight and let you through without incident. You promptly find yourself in an audience with the local lord himself, with a renewed faith from your prayer at the Sept. "I WILL HAVE ORDER IN MY KINGDOM!" Daegon boomed. Your lord Tyrel wearily places a hand on your sword hand and shakes his head at you. "Yes, 'your grace,' you have made that quite apparent. Is that how you make your people love you? You've executed Dornishmen for even looking at a Gold Dragon wrong. Now is the time you face facts, Daegon. While you may keep your kingdom held together, what's to keep it that way when you pass? Only when the people control their own lands do they feel faith in who leads them. The Dornish hate you, and as soon as you are dead, they will see no better discourse than to rebel once more, and the Seven Kingdoms will burn." The smiling face on the crescent moon mask further and further disconcerts you with each word. "You dare have the insolence to speak of my death to my face? My people follow House Targaryen because it is strong! When I am gone from this world, their devotion will remain!" Daegon cries, his face red and strained, his wife at his side growing increasingly fearful. "Well then, Daegon Targaryen, what do you say we test that theory?" Before you could blink, the cloaked man lifted his arm and his sleeve rolled back to reveal a strange web of metal like a gauntlet on his arm. He twisted a knob on the top and pointed his fist at the King, and no sooner could the Kingsguard put hands on their swords than they were met with a deafening crack, the moon-faced man's arm launched back, spitting smoke. You look at the King and find his hand over his chest, blood running through his fingers. "You..." he breathed at last before he slumped to the floor.

What do you do?

The Kingsguard would look after the King, if he were not already dead, and would kill the little barbarian before he reached the doors. Aenar's pledge was to his liege. Raising his shield and standing in front of Lord Lannister, he roared behind him, "Start backing out into the hall, I'll cover you!"

I'll talk with the local lord. "If this keeps up, going to come to where knighthood doesn't mean anything..." I'll mumble at the start. People start worshiping trees and then they'll worship rivers and next they'll worship the rocks and who knows what else they'll worship? Fire? Ice? Gods be good. Either way. "M'lord. "This man obviously has some kind of skill, given that he has risen to the top of this shadowy organization causing so much trouble in Essos. Perhaps among those skills he calls his own is the gift of stealth and disguise. You kneel behind a tree for only a few minutes before you find what you're looking for: three deer sprinting away. No sooner did you see that than you nocked your arrow and loosed it at the great grey wolf that followed them close behind. You would have to stay where you were for a time so the pack didn't notice you, but you had nabbed your first kill of the day. Soon after, another 4 followed before sundown.

What do you do?
>Ser Gerris Goldtooth

"Aye," Lord m00ton says, "If you would like to slay the scum that sell indulgences to my smallfolk and distract them from their duties, you should do so. Alas, I have no work that needs doing. Perhaps the Faith could use the assistance of one such experienced knight, don't you think?"

What do you do?
>Ser Demien Lylard

Your father is visibly disappointed. "And I suppose you sent a single outrider to warn His Grace of this danger? This is a danger I am certain he was already aware of. I am certain of it because I told him as much myself not a week past. I remember all too well the Faceless Man who took the life of His Grace's grandfather, King Aerin, three decades ago. Nearing 100 he was, to be sure, but a murder all the same. I expected you to do better than to tell me such that any fool with a map could."

What do you do?

>Aenar Reyne

The four Kingsguard that stood by Daegon's side drew their swords at once. You backed away and led Lord Tyrel to safety, and over your shield you saw a bloodbath. Ser Gerard Frey was the first to strike, swinging his sword, only to have it meet Lune's metal gauntlet and stop in midair. Suddenly, sharp metal claws shot from the man's other arm and stuck themselves through Ser Frey's exposed face. The second Kingsguard, Ser Walden Royce, took a blow to the gut from the man's left arm that left him visibly staggered, and Lune's claws drove through Ser Royce's throat. Lastly, the two remaining Kingsguard, Alfryd and Alfons Tarbeck struck at him from either side, but Lune ducked at the last moment, causing their blades to clash in midair. Quickly, the masked man reached beneath his cloak and pulled out a small ball and threw it on the ground. A bright flash blinded you for nearly a minute, and by the time you could see again, the Tarbeck twins were dead and the masked man was gone.

What do you do?

Aenar keeps his shield up and glances back and forth from the door to Lord Lannister. "Are you hurt, Sire? I fear the King and his guards are dead, though I do not think he was targeting you. I shall rouse the guards and lead a party on horseback to find this murderous peasant, if you will."

(Apologies! Oh, geeze... I feel so bad. I've never taken part in a quest like this, seemed to be fun.)

Well, if that's what is needed to be done, then perhaps it will be done! I'll go down to the ring of trees with their worshipers and the charlatans.

"Who here actually speaks to the trees? More importantly, who here is actually blood of the First Men?" I'll look around, as a knight in my armor, I should command attention of the low born.

"We are Riverlanders! And for over a thousand years, we were of the Seven, with our Andal blood! I may be a lowly knight, but I was knighted in the name of the Father, Mother, Maiden, and Warrior!" I would point to the tree. "The septons would have us believe these trees are demons, I do not think that. The power of these weirdwoods, that protect our lands, they are a blessing of the Crone! Let them have their faces, so the Crone may see through them... but more important, let them have the Seven Pointed Star!"

The rider was an unexpected surprise, but it was most comforting to know that he was part of Lord Lannister's inner circle, if only because he was in the right place at the right time - most of history was founded upon men being in the right place at the right time. "You, however, will not be responsible for Ser Demien's supervision. You have a much different duty. King Daegon had no children, so the last surviving Targaryen is an uncle, Raehaerys, who left to Essos some forty years ago. Many pretenders will come to the throne seeking to place their own interests above those of the Seven Kingdoms. If you will, you should go to Essos, find this prince, and bring him back here. Either alive or dead."
