Created by JONSNO, Ornstein, and Ash, with special thanks to the other memes that occupy the GoB chat

This game is a text-based, player-driven RPG set in George R R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire Universe. A story is set up by the OP, and is played through by any number of players, with the maximum decided upon by the OP.

>Getting Started

To claim a spot, link a post stating you're doing so to the OP or the latest update. Your next step is to make a character. Follow the following template:

- Name
- Age
- Birthplace/Hometown
- Job/Position
- Weapons and equipments (can be anything, but can only provide a total bonus of 5 points)
- House/Faction (You can belong to any house, but if you belong to a major noble house you will have to be either a bastard or just be working for that house as whatever it is you are. No story specific characters; ie. Lords, kings, or any factions OP denies for story purposes from the start)
- Goal/Quest (Leave it blank and I will assume the character is free to do just about anything that is still relevant to the character.)
- Prefered Starting location (This is entirely up to where OP places you to give you a chance to team up with other characters, but if you are more of a loner character, he will have a better idea where to place you if you have a preferred location.)
- Short Description of the characters looks

In addition, you must also roll for initial skill points. A roll of 2-3 gives 5 points, 4-5 gives 10 points, 6-7 gives 15 points, 8-9 gives 20 points, and a 0 gives 25 points. If you roll a 1, you can roll again. If you choose not to roll, you can take 10 points. You can distribute the skill points you rolled for among the stats available.

Stats
>See chart

>Flow of the game

At the start of each turn, the OP will provide an update. These updates contain replies from NPCs and results of your roll. To roll for an action, link to the update and formulate your action like this

Player>Action(Stat, specialization)

A roll of 7 will always be a success, with a 5 or 6 succeeding on mundane actions at OP's discretion. A roll of 0 is a critical success, and a roll of 1 is a critical failure. Other gets receive bonuses decided on by OP. A successful roll gives +1 to the stat it used, and a critical success gives +2. A critical failure gives -1. Stats cannot be negative.

For every 5 skill points a stat has invested in it, it receives a mastery point. This mastery point can be donated to any of the 3 specializations of the corresponding stat, with a maximum of 4 per specialization. Each mastery point gives a +1 to every roll using that specialization. Each stat can grow to give a maximum of 8 mastery points.

Also, sign every post with your character name, stat spread, and equipment bonuses.

>Equipment

Equipment is any item your character carries that provides a bonus to specializations. Each piece of equipment adds an amount of bonus points to a related specialization up to its maximum of 4. Adding equipment, however, does not take away from the stat's 8 mastery point maximum.
Valyrian steel doubles the growth and reduction rate of all stats, ie. a successful roll will increase skill points by 2, a 1 will decrease skill points by 2, a 0 will increase by 4.

Claiming my spot in this game.
I am rolling for the skill

>Money

Money and economy play an important role in the world of ASoIaF. Money has the following values:
10 copper pennies == 1 copper star
50 copper stars == 1 silver stag
100 silver stags == 1 gold dragon
A player may start the game with any number of money up to and including 20 stags.

>Duels

A roll between two player characters, or a player character and an NPC with stats is treated as a duel. A single roll judges the outcome of this conflict, but the roll is interpreted differently. First, the roll must succeed normally with the appropriate stat bonuses. This determines whether or not the action is performed properly. Then, the total value of the roll of the attacking player (raw roll + bonuses) must be higher than the roll of the opposing party, plus their own bonuses. Even if the opposing party did not roll the same stat as the attacking player, the stat used by the attacker is used for this check. This check determines whether or not the performed action affects the other party as desired.
However, two characters in the same vicinity, whether they be player characters or NPCs, can speak with one another or cooperate without rolling to duel if they are in the same vicinity. All interactions can only occur between players in the same vicinity.

>Last notes

This is a roleplay-heavy game. As such, metagaming is STRICTLY forbidden. Metagaming is defined as performing an action in game based on knowledge that your character could not reasonably have gained. OP has the right to call out metagaming when it happens and bar anyone who does so from participating.
Similarly, OP is god. OP may suspend, modify, or add new rules as he/she sees fit. OP may limit any player from doing any action or receiving any item, if he/she deems it necessary. OP can also kick any player from the game for any reason. Conversely, as a player, if you notice OP is being unfair, feel free to call him/her out, fuck off to a new thread, and let the OP die in their own feces.

As this is a beta test, any input is appreciated, thank you, and gg!

>Captain Rolf the Flame of the Fearless Companions The Unburnt Breaker of Chains Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea King of the Andals the Rhoynar and the First Men Mother of Dragons

Your absurdly long title has long been a staple of your company, and has in the past, helped to increase your popularity among buyers. However, in the last few years since the overthrow of the Lysene and he Myrish governments, you've found that work is hard to come by. In spite of this, the rumors that these two cities will assault Tyrosh very soon may prove to be a good opportunity to find employment for one side or another...

What do you do?
>Alaric Connington

30 years ago your house rose from the ashes of war to overtake the since extinct House Baratheon as Lords Paramount of the Stormlands. House Connington is a proud house, and as such, you've lived the last year at Harvest Hall with House Selmy, a former Knightly house that elevated to nobility after the rebellion. Your Lord is notable for little, however, preferring the company of his pageboys to his wife, leaving you to tend the stables more often than not. Though your houses have remained longtime friends, you wonder if there's anything else that could be waiting for you...

What do you do?
>Ser Demien Lylard

"M'lord doesn't like a struggle." The guards let go of you. "We'll take your horse, and lead you to your chambers, where you'll stay until m'lord says you can leave, understood?"

What do you do?

As the guards lead me through the hallway, I recognize the place. I remember that I told the two men I brought with me, Mers and Jaime, to stand at the end of this hallway. As we walk past them I motion to them, and in one motion unsheathe my sword and slice the throat out of one of the guards, turning to face the others.

Alaric found himself once again tending to the stables, he had become familiar with the brushes and oily soaps and due to the time he spent here, he seemed to get along well with the horses. When Alaric thought of being a squire he instantly thought of combat and glory, he was hoping to become a knight someday...
He pushed these thoughts to the side momentarily has he dragged his watery bucket into a pen, he used an oily sponge to soak the water and clean the large black horse, he gave it a few pets to comfort it as this particular horse did not enjoy being cleaned.

You slice the throat of the guard on your right, but on your left, Mors' blade catches on the guard's armor and Jaime takes a steel fist to the face!

What do you do?
>Alaric Connington

You just about finish your duties when you lose your grip on the sponge and drop it on the ground. Exasperated and exhausted, you bend over to pick up the soapy sponge, but no sooner do you do so that you feel a suspiciously horse-sized object enter your arse from behind. What a time to be alive.

What do you do?
>Harren Blackyde

Your father would tell you stories as a child of how he would raid and reave purely to survive the harsh circumstances they lived in. Because 30 years ago, the Iron Islands were razed to the ground by a massive army of undead, driving the Ironborn from their homes to the Stepstones. That is, until the Iron Hero, Lord Eddon Greyjoy, slew the Night of Silence in Valyria and reclaimed the Iron Islands for the Ironborn. There are many who would see your leader sit the Seastone chair as a king in his own right, but that is not for you to judge. Having never met the man, you could not say if he was as harsh and unforgiving as the storm or as jubilous and rejoicing as the tavern drunk. But such you may find out soon, because the ship you ride is only one of a convoy of three carrying none other than Lord Eddon Greyjoy and his wife Roslyn, bound for Sunspear. Why? Nobody would say. It seems to you that it's classic Lords' secrecy.

What do you do?
>Captain Rolf the Flame of the Fearless Companions

Being not far from Tyrosh, the trip takes you less than a day, including the boat ride to the island. When you arrive, you are greeted with a sight you've grown accustomed to over the years--bustling traders, pirates, slaves, and whores alike. And the musky smell...this is home.

What do you do?

>Sulyvahn

Captain Isyc Hammersail has been an idol of yours for quite some time. The simple, rough man has always been a direct contrast to your thoughtful, marginally less provocative manner. You head to the prow of the ship at dawn: a steel bar, flanged into spikes that would tear even the heaviest ships to ribbons. The Ram was a simple and brutal engine of destruction that struck fear into the hearts of sailors, and her captain, Isyc Hammersail, was no different, even as he stepped out onto deck earlier than all the other crew after you.

What do you do?

Move quickly, and kill both the guards while they are fighting against Jaime and Mors.

A single tear falls from Alarics eyes to the ground as he experiences the unthinkable, he praises the seven that no one is here to see this and that he wore his armour on the job today so the major schlong was absorbed by the metal plate and that his virginity remained intact, Alaric had promised the seven to save himself for marriage and it looks like they agreed with him.
Alaric stands up and slams the pen door shut and whacks the horse on the nose with a stick telling him off.

Slightly humiliated Alaric stumbles backwards and sits himself on a bench, he takes out 1 stag and starts to flip it in the air, he had been practicing a trick where he could throw multiple coins up and catch them to improve his skill but for now it was simply to kill time.

Hammersail nods stolidly. "G'day Red." He hands you a piece of paper, which is odd for him. "We've gotten orders from the Governor of Tyrosh hi'self. We're to raid a convoy headed from Lys to the Summer Isles." Always a man of few words, very rarely did you feel Isyc was keeping something from you. This was one of those times.

"Boy, I don't think I've another war in me. I've seen dragons born and dead, but this...this is something I've never seen the like of. No, maybe, I have. This whole city of Lys, no, everyone tipped by Ouroboros is like one big crew. Everyone believes in the cause they're fighting for, and they fight because they want to, not because they're told to. >Name: Aeron Velaryon
>Age: 19
>Birthplace: Driftmark
>House: Velaryon
>Goal/Quest: To venture the world and experience it all
>Background: The fourth of six children (Corlys, 26 and Lucerys, 14 his brothers, Alyssa, 23, Rhae, 21 and Laena, 9 his sisters), Aeron was at heart a traveler from a young age. He'd spend afternoons in the library, where he discovered among others Maester Mathis' "The Nine Voyages", a book on "Sea Snake" Velaryon's travels around the world. From that day he knew what he wanted to do with his life, him not being first heir and all: to see the whole world. The only thing he consistently bested his older brother on were the sailing lessons they took with Uncle, of which he became sort of a prodigy. It wasn't long before his father took him on a visit to Highgarden, which he remembers vividly to this day, his first real travel. Fondness breeds competence, and as he grew older his father started trusting him to be an envoy of House Velaryon, doing diplomatic work for his family wherever needed. These days, this often includes discussions about King Daegon, to whom his father is still a firm loyalist.
>Appearance: He has not the most masculine demeanor (that would be Corlys, his older brother, a bull of a young man), to put lightly; matter of fact when he was young he was often mistaken for a girl, which of course infuriated him and gave Corlys a reason for picking on him, going as far as nicknaming him "Lady Silver", since his small frame made it easy for him to be confounded with one of his sisters who also share his silver hair trait. Now that they're both older, the nickname's become more affectionate than ridiculing. Nowadays he wears his valyrian heritage proudly, the silver-gold hair almost as long as a woman's, but often in a ponytail. He has his mother's dark brown eyes and his father's pointy, smirky face.

cont'd.

Sulyvahn was taken aback by such a heavy answer, but tried not to let it show. Was there really a war coming? Sulyvahn had been hearing whispers of this "Ourobouros", but were they really this close to all-out war? And what could a simple band of pirates do? What concerns did they have for politics? "Y'know, cap, if I might speak truthfully. We're naught but simple pirates. We don't need this war. We could go about our business, plunderin' and pillagin', not giving a fuck about the politics. Have we ever had any loyalty to Tyrosh? Why fight for them?"

Your plan goes off without a hitch. The Lannister guard's naked body sits in your place in the cell, and you, disguised as a Red Cloak, make your way to wherever you wish.

What do you do?
>Harren Blackyde

Despite being so intoxicated your breath is more ale than air, you manage to make out some details that Lord Greyjoy's heading to Sunspear to broker a treaty for an alliance with the reavers. Sounds to you like a rebellion might be happening...

What do you do?
I'll hold onto your sheet, I'll try to host a game Wednesday. There's only gonna be one more update after this so I don't want you to feel cheated.
>Sulyvahn

"They've fed us, they've given us a place to moor, but if you can think of a better idea, I'm all ears. That is why you're my first mate after all," Hammersail says to you. "There might even be a bonus cut in it for you if we don't die."

What do you do?

Aye, Tyrosh has done right by us, but that don't mean we owe the Archon a damned thing. We're pirates, and pirates we'll always be. Not soldiers to be sent to our deaths." He paused. "But you're my Captain, and you know I'll follow you to a watery grave if you give the command." He smiled. "Orders, sir?"

Upon hearing that Lord Greyjoy may be seeking an alliance with the Dornish, Harren head began to spin. Both from the possible implications of such an alliance, and from the copious amounts of alcohol that he had consumed throughout the night.
He needed air, the only type of air an Ironborn knew, salty sea air. With a boisterous farewell to his crewmates, Harren stood and made his way out of the galley, trying very hard to walk correctly.
Out on the galley, Harren stood overlooking the sea, wondering what might come of this voyage. Who was he to be? What glories might he find in Dorne, and what riches could this war bring him.
"Blacktyde!!" A stern voice called out that made Harren snap to attention, regardless of his stupor. "At ease, boy."
It was the first mate of the ship, an old reaver who had seen his share of plunder. He went by only one name, Urron, and came from naught, but his past glories carried him like a lord across the deck of the ship.
He remarked about the stench of alcohol from Harren's breath being palpable enough to smell in the Crows Nest, and put Harren at ease with his humor. Then he came to look out over the sea besides Harren.

You head through most of Casterly Rock without a hitch, but as soon as you reach the gates you're stopped by the guards at the front. "Hey, where do you think you're going? Shifts don't change till sundown ye pillock!" Just when you realize you may have been caught again, you remember the Lannisters still may have Mors and Jaime locked away.

The captain considers for some time, as though he's reevaluating his entire existence. "We go to war." Just as you ready to take your leave, Hammersail adds: "But not with Lys. Or with Tyrosh. We head North, to Qohor." As if anticipating your quizzical gaze, the captain clarifies, "Tyrosh is going to lose their battle no matter what we do. And if we fight on the side of Lys and Myr, we'll be fighting a safe, winning battle. If we went to battle against the Qohorik, we'd be the stone that tipped the scales in the Norvoshi's favor, which would win us by far the most fame and riches."

>Int +1
>Harren Blackyde

"Do I look like a politician?" Urron says. "I've never been fond of Eddon's approach to leading us, he treats us too much like we're another green land farming town and not the Iron fucking Islands." Urron shakes his head in disgust. "But I do know one thing. You don't make an alliance with someone if you don't expect them to not have a reason to fight with you. You make peace with your enemies, not your friends."
