Which of gee-dub's big three by which I mean 40k is your favorite and why?

Which of gee-dub's big three by which I mean 40k is your favorite and why?

Fantasy, always had better lore and models

I miss it so

big three
Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40k, and Age of Sigmar?

Lord of the Rings, Epic 40,000, and Hero Quest, I think.

it lives through vidja and the hearts of good people

Talisman, Space Hulk, and Fury of Dracula

Bfg, Bofa, and inquisitor.

whf, 40k, gorkamorka

>back when Geedubs was a much smaller company they regularly released products for a whole bunch of games of very different types and scales
>now they're HUEG they have two games featuring SPESS MEHREENS plus another that gets one release a year, if they even do that anymore

How does this shit happen?

Poor company management

Spess mehreens just sell that well.

Specialist games is being revived, but it will take a long, long time to undo all that was wrought, and all of Kirby's evil.

Though there's the issue AoS, a pretty defining part of post-Kirby, being the first major thing they did.

On some level, it was pretty necessary - games were too big, bloated and the buy-in was too much - but killing a 32 year-old, 8-edition leviathan to do it was bound to leave a lot of bad feelings - personally I think the games should have coexisted for a year or three as the Old World ended: the End Times was cool, but it was too fast and didn't do much for either game

LoTR for me, best minis too.

Money became more important than the games

I wonder just how crazy could you get with those rules rather than a lot of samey stat lines.

Very, with some tweaks. Heroes were powerful as fuck.

Specialist games almost bankrupting the company and the LotR bubble popping and the Hobbit not being anywhere near as big.

Even still, they're making effort to bring both back.

Why do people keep making these nonsensical claims that AoS was necessary? All GW had to do was go back to 6th edition prices and unit sizes.

The problem with lotr/hobbit is that it's very limited in what they can put in it and how to move forward with it.
Unless they somehow get the rights to the silmarillion it's just going to face it's own natural death.
Even though they still haven't added wicked dwarves.

Lore Fantasy
Gameplay LotR
Models Fantasy

I thought GW kind of already did its own stuff with the Haradrim?

At the last Warhammerfest FW showed off a few Dwarf models, plastic Laketown scenery, and and the printing of a compiled rule book of sorts. GW also in the past few weeks rereleased two old figure in likely FW resin and reprinted two books.

Apparently FW is committed to the game for the next four years. I'm guessing maybe they figure that the dedicated fanbase the game has may be enough to sustain the range even if they don't produce new figures or maybe they are trying to get the rights to the Silmarillion.

Let's see where this goes then.

>go back to 6th edition prices and unit sizes
That would have a lot more weight if I hadn't started with 6th

>oi, dat's me leg
>sulfa rivva
>doctor oo

What is your point?

The cost of entry was lower back then because GW had not deliberately jacked it up to try and make more money. Instead all they did was scare off new players.

I'm not sure blaming it entirely on prices really flies. Both Warmachine and Hordes cost a pretty penny and I rarely see people complaining about the prices for them, suggesting that it's problem of game size.

WHFB was a better game with a better setting than fantasy

LOTR is decent but outdated

40k has a great setting, terrible gameplay

AoS is absolute cancer

But it was not a problem in 6th edition so those sizes were clearly sustainable, WHFB stayed in the top 5 until a few years into 8th when it caught up with them.

My reason tells me 40k is more varied, but my heart says fantasy was the superior setting and game

40k is a very strong setting and aesthetic let down by a terrible game. Its a real shame.

And ruined by Black Library.

Because they don't give a fuck about making good or interesting games anymore, the design team exists to pay the share holders.

Gameplay it's clearly lotr but the models of fantasy are badass and it pisses me off so many of them are going out of production for the ass cancer that is aos, I gave it a chance I really did but it is just a shit game. You cant have these complex statlines then say, fuck it bring whatever you want. You can't have it both ways although 40k also has a solid setting that game is also almost as bad as aos, I know a lot of people might get butt hurt over that but it's true

Fantasy. While LoTR brought me into contact with wargaming and 40K was the first game I played, Warhammer Fantasy was and is my favorite. The setting was unique, interesting and grabbed a hold of my imagination in a way 40k and LoTR never did. Getting into the hobby in between the Albion campaign and the run up to Storm of Chaos probably helped.
