I just got like 50 cultists from a friend, all without bases. I really need to base them as soon as possible, because my local FLGS is having a tournie on june 24th, im running Typhus plague zombies. What do I do? The nearest time on ebay for that many bases is 25th.

1) it has the advantage of being a fuckhuge franchise that has lasted for almost 30 years so it has nearly neverending content in which to immerse yourself for people who like in-depth experiences
2) creative expression, it allows you to build, sculpt and paint miniature works of art to share with other people in a wider well-developed community
3) wargames or at least 40k is sort of the happy medium between card games and role playing games for me. it's card game-like in the sense that your "deck" is your list and it has a strict set of rules to adhere to, but is more open ended and designed around actual scenarios to act out like in RPGs. add to that narrative campaigns, different types of missions, or just bullshitting with your m8s to see what happens

The OP image has been shit since someone put together that collage rather than using some 40k artwork like the WHFB, AoS, Malifaux, Infinity and many other threads do with their own relevant artwork. Where were you to complain about it then? Because it's certainly too late to do so now.

Charging is now done during the movement phase. You charge D6", in addition to your normal 6" movement. Pretend units that have special movement rules are changed to fit into this somehow (ex: assault marines can reroll the 6" charge, or can move 12" if they don't charge, or something I don't care).

I like tabletop wargames, and there aren't that many to choose from.

I also like good looking plastic models, high levels of army customizability, having an active player base, sci-fi, and various other things that eliminate everything but 40k.

I enjoy the fluff and spin-off vidya, but that stuff mostly is just a factor of popularity and not innately good because it's 40k.

1) The sheer size and scale of the setting is astounding, and the imperium is an interesting study in humanities darker aspects.
2) It explores themes such as the dark ages mythos, (such as the knights templar and teutonic traditions) catholic symbolism and superstition, and russian christian orthodoxy in an ironic fashion.
3) I love gothic and boroque architechture and themes, and the artwork is often wrought with such care and detail that is sometimes jaw dropping.

So I'm building a Carcharodons army, but I'm not sure how to go about starting. As I haven't played SMs before I'm not sure exactly what I'll get in the boxes. Will there be enough chainswords for my tacticals and lightning claws for my termies?

Bjorn is 10,000 years old and currently the oldest marine alive. If Ahzek or Khârn weren't living in the Eye they would be holders of "Oldest Spess Marheen". As for the High Lords they can be pretty old. The Fabricator General can be even older thanks to this one Dreadnought-like life extender, but the thing is a Fabricator General will go mad because of it.

SW have a 10k year old Dread. I think Commander Dante of the Blood Angels might be the oldest living space marine. His age isn´t really clear but he seems to be 2k+ years old.

I like Eldar for lore(like the spirit stone thing and using their dead warrior) and for being fast.
I like Dark Eldar too because I think their masked models looks nice but on the other hand their models without face cover looks like shit imo. Also fast.
IG seems appealing because they are just regular guys fighting against superhumans/demons/space commies/ayyliens and they are still able hold their ground but I dont like how they are using Russian ww2 tactics.

Militarum Tempestus is kind of the elite IG. They're kind of your spec. ops. That said, they aren't really an army on their own, but their new formation is pretty good.

you can play astra militarum without having hordes of infantry. you could field lots of tanks and veterans in chimeras. also there is a supplement faction which is essentially special forces of the astra militarum called militarum tempestus. I've only played against them once but the consensus seems be that they're not so good though unfortunately
