So what's it like doing runs for broke-ass grandmas?

yeah, there is.
>Object refrence not set to an instance of an object

>Granny Johnson never tries to shoot you
>Granny Johnson really just wants you to pick up some soymilk from the store, help arrange a carpool for bridge club, and maybe get some of the local kids from making so much noise late at night
>Granny Johnson pays you entirely in knit sweaters, afghans and homemade oatmeal cookies

Pretty fucking sweet, chummer.

>Oh, right. She also pays in hard candy. Delicious, strawberry and lemon-flavored hard candy

I bet it's some of that candy that is literally impossible to find anywhere outside of Grandma's candy bowl. You know the kind. The sort of candy you'd buy a 5lb bag of if you could ever find it for sale anywhere at all.

>Grannies cat is stuck in a tree. No, seriously. Yes it pays. ...30Y

Makes me feel bad that artists like Paul Bonner and Mark Zug have to share image space with complete hacks like RabenAas.

How do i fire turret weapon (ex. Ak-97), which is placed on top of my van (gmc bulldog for example). Do u simply pop it up and fire (assuming it's internal turret) on next action phase or do i need to lock on target?

I much prefer the old style of art, but it's not all that bad.

Anyone here willing to run an online game? I'm looking for anything after 8:00 PM any day except Thursdays.

Just as a note, if you're going to beg for a game in an anonymous Malaysian fishhook-carving forum, at least put your time zone.

Right! My bad. CDT!

Are called shots worth it in 4th edition? I know 5th can reduce the penalties down pretty far and get some interesting effects out of them.

What is the best edition?

>tfw no lewd SURGE succubi gf

Just get an orc and paint her red

Each edition has it's ups and downs.
My recommendation is 4th edition, with the good bits of 5th backported.

4th or 5th, depending on who you ask.

Also need horn implants and a cybertale.

So after the posts in the last thread, I was thinking about, mechanically, everything I'd need to play an AI with pilot origins jumped in:

Depth+Relevant Autosoft program loaded into AI+Relevant Autosoft Loaded onto drone itself+Pilot Origins Rating

When I say "Relevant", I mean Dodge would be Evasion Autosoft which you can make an ADVANCED program, loaded onto the AI, as well adding what's loaded onto the drone itself. So, evasion, stealth, perception, weapons targeting.

When the jumped-in drone takes damage, you also save vs biofeedback on your AI condition monitor itself.

And if this isn't it I swear to god this is probably how I'll request it to be house ruled because this makes the most sense.

What tradition would use Tarot-themed summons?

Gypsiness.

Does Take Aim exist as an action in 4e? Yes. So, yes, called shots are "worth it".

>Preferring this horrible Comicbookshit

Absolutely digusting.
You probably also enjoyed the fugly 4e Covers, didn't you?

It does
And 4es Krav Maga reduced "Take Aim" to a free Action...

RIP in peace Free Berlin. May you rise again!
Actually, how could you restablish Free Berlin? Could you gather enough anarchists to fight the corps?

I've been trying to start a game in 3rd E and teach myself how to run it from a book in English (not my first language). My player complained enough that îI just dropped a drekload of cash on 5E books and the 2050 5E supplement, because he swears I'll have an easier time of it. Is this true? Are the 5E rules really more comprehensible to a first time Shadowrun GM? Or did I just waste half of my payday?
Was originally trying to run 3E because I like the setting better and technomancers are stupid.

not many of us sprechen genug deutsch, or know 3e well enough, to help you bernd

5e is mostly good crunch-wise, but the books explain the rules exceptionally poorly

technos are really easy to just ignore though

He is technically true.

But:
>First time SR Game.

Take all your German books.
put away EVERYTHING that is not the core rules book and SR 2050.
Tell your players to build their characters with that, and really only with that.

You COULD allow Schattenläufer and Kreuzfeuer, but if you do, only allow the gear and the positive/negative Qualities from it.
No Surge, no metavariants etc pp. Sum-to-10 might be a good choice for character generation, but Priorities is also fine.

No matter what the players say, don't allow the class specific books (Straßengrimoire, Bodyshop), because this will complicate your game way to much.

>vomits externally

They really felt the need to do a Harlequin AMA too?

Where did user say he was German?

only ze germans have a 5e 2050 sourcebook

That sounds a bit like what I'll have to deal with. Luckily our Technomancer jumped off shortly before the campaign began, so I won't really have to get into the matrix level.

Hey, /srg/!
I'm looking for locations my street level runner team may want to visit. There's an elvish female from Ireland, a German deserted Bundeswehr breaching specialist ork and a gregarious demolition expert now going rigger, who was made to blow up a building with people now seeking revenge.

They're all basically refugees, have mediocre fighting experience (save for the tanky ork with a combat shield, but he is no weapons expert by any means) and brought only a backpack worth of stuff to a location I can basically design all by myself: Belgrade, Serbia.

So again: What locations should I prepare for them to be visitable with fleshed out NPCs etc.? So far I got the following:

>restaurants
>hospital
>Stuffer Shack
>clothing shop (or w.e. that's called in ENG)
>estate agency
>electronics store
>betting office
>fitness studio
>hotel and guesthouse
>clothing dispensers

Things I'm already planning to create:

>club
>urban brawl arena / area

What else?
Not talking story related stuff, just optional offers to fill the world with life.

i'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to shadowrun, but is it safe to assume that being a red-skinned cyber-tailed slut is kind of a job hazard?

in the same way that you could wear a neon sign that says PLEASE SHOOT ME, i mean

Now I have the image of an ornery but cute grandma in my mind.
The only twist is that she's actually dealing in Hard Candy.
She's the head of a pedophile ring.
She rules it with her tiger mother fist.

If you and your job is getting shot at, then yeah, but if you're just lady of the night, why not be a little exotic?

anyone willing to spend the money on bioware can have red skin, horns, and a tail.

it would make you more recognizable, but in a world where changing appearances is fairly easy with both magic and mundane means that only means so much, and it is hardly a sign that you are a shadowrunner

Spitballing a character for a F-list game, 5E. Parkour adept, B&E, machine pistols. The fun stuff. Anyone mind looking over this and telling me how bad I am at making characters?

I just had time for a quick look. It seems okay, but there are a couple of issues that I noticed.
You should probably have an Edge of 2, at least. 1 Edge does not leave you with much of a safety net.
I don't really think that a Strength of 4 is enough to justify the points in unarmed. Shooting is pretty much always going to be the better option for you with so little investment. You might consider shuffling those points elsewhere or if you're committed to that, picking up some shock gloves to at least make you a bit more effective.
You could do with some more armor. 12 is generally considered the 'minimum' for people whose speciality isn't combat. Get some gel packs or some arm guards or some PPP or whatever.

Good. Let it all out. I need more!

No, because all the writers got to make one and that's now their pet.
Plus Harlequin is "part of the setting" now.

Not exactly sure where to squeeze the karma out for Edge 2.
I'll take a look at shock gloves, though; I just wanted a backup option if I get disarmed.
Probably pick up arm guards, then. Wanted the Urban Explorer for flavor reasons.

i'd really try and free up a skill point to specialize in machine pistols.

improved agility is very expensive for what it does. attribute boost is going to give you twice (or more) the bonus to everything except movement rates for one quarter the power points.

i'd be willing to bet you could make the exact same character in karmagen and have resources to spare, if your group allows it

I unironically like Harlequin. He's a good foil to all the high-speed low-drag black trenchcoat autists in /srg/.

He better answer my questions and answer them satisfactorily.

Shadowrun is goofy as fuck. The cartoony style fit pretty well.

Certainly better than any of the generic 4th and 5th ed stuff.

I kind of like the idea of Harlequin. If you look at characters like, say, Hercules, they're basically one-dimensional murder machines that represent the common repressed psychology of the culture they reflect. Harlequin is like that, if they were an actual person, transposed into a bizarre fantasy-cyberpunk setting. Mary-sue-ness just sort of seems inevitable in that context, and I guess the only thing to do is keep them out of the gameplay and try not to mess up any writing about them.

Personally I would do away with the positive qualities. Losing Agile Defender is not so great but you'd basically be exchanging a combat-only safety net for an all purpose one.
You may just not want to do that though. Given that it's an F-List game I would assume that it's not a full Black Trenchcoat operation so I mean, you can probably just do whatever you like desu.

After posting this and looking at the picture I thought:

What is the more elegant solution to a character that is artificial but has proper presence in meatspace? A CFD'd pile of 'ware that eventually had all the meat replaced, too?

I don't mind any of the Jackpointers. Some of them are dicks, but it's not like all of them are supposed to be likeable and nice folks. Rigger X still being alive after betraying every single team he has worked with, including Jackpoint, is hard to believe but then again, he is properly paranoid and mainly only deals with rookies who aren't match for him.

And yeah, there are a lot of people who like to play pink-mohawk so having the setting occasionally show that not all of it is grimdark is not that bad.

>The cartoony style fit pretty well.

Fuck no, that shit looks like straight out of a wierdass D&D setting

Its less about "not grimdark", its more about a fuckton of these Jackpointers being horrible mary/gary stues and author self-inserts from persons with the literatic capabilities of a 16 year old writer from fanfiction.net

Ah, I don't speak German. Kalderas, Romanian, Dutch and English. I moved to the USA so I speak English well, I just don't read it as well, and my native languages don't really get western RPG translations as far as I'm aware.

I got the 2050 book by way of third party market.

So did you get ze german or ze english 2050 book?
If its the latter, grab the german one from the pastebin so you have the 5ed stats for the gear.
Shouldn't be to hard figuring out what is what, especially considering you read/speak dutch.

Yes, it's the English 4th edition I believe. Dank je!

Also, for some fag who reads English at a high scool level, is 5ed decent? I like learning new systems and shadowrun is one of my favorite settings so far.
>also taught myself classic WoD, new WoD in English, and will probably be trying out Nights Black Agents and Eclipse phase next.
Because SR3 is stressful to try and understand, me hanically.

>Doing 'ware without worrying about essence cost
>A character that is no longer human, built out of entirely used parts

It's a shame a GM would never let me play this character because it's fuckin' O to the P

*mechanical

The writing is clean but it can be hard to glean the meaning off of the rules because they are poorly written/edited.

The narrative stuff isn't so bad at least.

Protip: If you want to seem knowledgeable about the fine art of writing in the English language, refrain from making up words on the spot, like "literatic".

>literatic

'Literary'

>hurr mary sue hurr self-insert

Empty cynicism doesn't make you look cool. Sorry to have to break it to you.

Called shots can be pretty broken in 4th considering you give up -2 to hit for +2 damage. Which statistically you would need to roll six dice to get that +2 damage. Combine that with how cheap it is to specialize in a combat skill (2 karma) if you pumped your main combat skill high enough, or just stacked the to hit buffs, you can just constantly take the to hit penalty for the damage.

At least in 5th ed, they bumped it up to a -4 to hit, and specializing costs 7 now.

TL;DR: yes you should always make use of called shot in 4th ed.

Did you know that The Warriors was a book before it was a movie? I'm reading it right now, it's not bad. Take a look if you're running a street level campaign.

Ze fuck are Bull, Red and dev/grrrl, if not textbook sues and/or self-inserts, you hack?

if you were doing something more focused on character interaction having "granny johnson" living in the shitty apartment next to the runners would be pretty funny

Can anyone post a picture of the CCU (Braincase) from 4e?

I can't find the block about it through the internet. I guess it's in the Augmentation book?

(I'm a 5e babby)

I don't think there is a picture of one in the book (at least, I can't find one with a quick flip through the relevant section), but it is described as "an oval or cylindrical unit 50 centimeters long and 30 centimeters in diameter".

Keep those standards in mind so's it can fit a human brain inside it, along with its integrated commlink, and you can probably fluff it to look like whatever the fuck you want.

Oh no I mean like, I would like to see the exact text.

Can you just screencap it and post it here? I'm super curious about it since it didn't make it into Chrome Flesh.

>a wierdass D&D setting

Hm. Alright then.

Basically I am trying to decide between doing something involving the CCU or going for more of an E-GHOST route for a character that is made entirely out of 'ware.

And thank you, Chummer!

GOTTA GO FAST

I'm on 3rd E paper sheets here...

Oh. Well, most people here use either 4e or 5e as far as I can tell, so you really should specify.
I'm afraid that I don't play 3e so I can't help you. Sorry.

Page 108. It's Quickness based.

Hey Chummers. I managed to hop in my first game tonight, and I kind of need help.
I for some reason thought I'd be jumping into a densely populated city (like seattle) and doing pink mohawk play, but it's more like a series of small towns in the New Mexico/Texas area, and by the DM's own words "Pink Trenchcoat" play.
He said it's fine if I change as much as my character as I want as long as it's still the same basic type, and recommended in particular I look at cyberware, which for some reason just makes my head explode.

I was wondering if I could get any tips on/just look at the following, some of which I obviously didn't fill out:
>no Cyberware, was suggested cybereyes
>no Contacts
>no knowledge skills
>Changing my Skills/Meta/Attributes around, if needed even priority or adding skills while removing/reducing others.
>Talents, dunno how those are, or if I should add/change.
>Gear, I just added packs and did some minor modifications & additions, dunno how I feel about these
>Anything else I missed

Thanks in advance.

>portrait shoved itself into the knowledge skills box
>qualities, physical/stun damage tracks were cut in half, as was gear (sorta)
Why is chummer so weird/awkward?

My suggestion on 'ware is that you get at least a smartlink in your eyes if you don't want to shell out for cybereyes with a smartlink and one other small mod. (Assuming rating 1 here)

With wireless on, it lets you get +2 dice to shots with all those guns that have smartguns in 'em.

You may want to simplify your combat skill selection a little, and with it your weapon choices. Pistol and an automatic (use auto/burst fire) are plenty in most cases.

Oh, and if you want to get a little silly about your 'ware, get a cyberlimb, put in a rating 5 sensor or sensor array, and start off combat with a Sensor attack. Basically your Perception -3 [5], against the enemy's stealth. Net hits are additional penalties to the enemy's defenses. In that case, take some of those skill points you hopefully freed up and increase your Perception, perhaps with a specialty, so that you can surprise people with it.

Skip the flechette rounds and get Stick-n-Shock. Get licenses (same level as your fake SIN) for anything rated R. And get something that gives you extra initiative dice. As a sammy you want to be hitting first and more often, and even one die will help with that a lot.
