Believable Origins for Monstergirls in Veeky Forums?

Okay, so, first things first, I know that monstergirls are pure magical realm and will never escape that stigma. But, I was wondering; can monstergirls in a Veeky Forums setting be given a backstory/origin that's actually somewhat believable, rather than pure fetish fuel handwaving?

I mean, look at the classic D&D Sphinx, whose messed up lifecycle most recently was used in Pathfinder. Is it really implausible that a gynosphinx could have a stream of thought like this?

"Hmm... I really feel the need to make some kittens. Got to keep the lineage going. Now then, what are my options? Ah, yes:"

"A: I can work my tail off to track down an Androsphinx. Then, assuming I make it to him without getting gangraped by Hieracosphinxes or trapped by a Criosphinx and forced to exchange my womb for my freedom, I have to humiliate myself to get the stuffy prude to notice me and finally deign to take a five minute break from philosophizing to hump me and give me a litter."

"B: There's this male human who's been studying under me to become a wizard. He's smart, he's cute, and everyone knows humans will have sex with anything that's willing. All I got to do is ask and I'm sure he'll be my baby daddy."

"...Option B it is."

*One steamy sex scene later*

"So, wait, you'll not only give me some kittens, but you'll make the kitten-making *fun*? *And* you'll want to do it again whenever I want to, *and* you'll stick around afterwards to help raise the kittens? Score!"

It's a stupid thing to wonder about, I know, but still, I was curious enough and I figured it could hurt to ask anons their opinion.

> Believable Origins for Monstergirls in Veeky Forums?

God got really drunk one night and was missing an apex predator or a staple species in a enviroment

Could be something like in Tupi/Guarani mythology. It says that TupĆ£, the creator god, made humans, the world and the spirits which inhabit it. All the other lifeforms came from curses, blessings or interracial.

>Believable Origins for Monstergirls in Veeky Forums

A wizard did it
A dragon did it
The setting's gods are dicks/perverts/perverted dicks
Bards
A wizard did it nudge nudge wink wink See also Bards.

>see the antepenultimate Oglaf comic.

Is probably right.
Considering how much bioengineering in sci-fi settings is devolved to fetishes, it wouldn't be surprising for wizards and alchemists to go the same way.

Religious reasons, like "birds are the creatures of the gods, therefore the kings are related to birds - gimme wings"

Creation of manual labourers and warriors, too.

Dr. Moreau Island-style experimentations.

Look at the greek gods, too: Angry at someone: Poof, monster species.

But any of those options gives you beastfolks, not only monster girls.
Heck, the Androsphinx in your example is probably boning a human witch.

But if you want to limit this to monster GIRLS, I see only two options.
>made for sexual purposes in a setting where only hetero males/lesbians have magic powers.
>made by feminists to gain monster traits, making them strong enough to overthrow the patriarchy.
>curse by a misogynist caster/god.

I could totally see the Aes Sedai from Wheel of Time (Black Ajah, at least) making some monsterboys.

Not gonna say mods have shit taste, but only because saying so is itself a bannable offense.

What the fuck does "believable" have to do with fantasy?

Bards

>The setting's gods are dicks/perverts/perverted dicks
That's almost every ancient culture's gods ever, so it's not like it doesn't have precedent. You could use MGE as a basis.

I'm now fucking thinking that if Dragons were the apex predator anywhere, wouldn't there be some sort of fucked up plant that kill Dragons that do an action that would normally kill it?

Like IDK, a plant that basically evolved into a mine/bomb or made flammable substances because of how often it's ancestors were set on fire?

And how come in fantasy settings there aren't parasites that go in dragon eggs, eat the young from the inside out and then hatch as adult insects from the egg to go mate again.

Or back on the topic of Monster girls, insects that eat Monstergirls' eyes out or something. Medusa can't turn the insect nests to stone if they bury into her eyes and eat them out.

We can't have believable origins if they don't have to deal with half the same problems humans and animals do.

>Zeus has disguised himself as an animal to rape a human maiden, yet again
>an female animal of the species he's disguised as forces herself on him instead

Zeus?

I just thought of more, why not have a slime that's like a mimic, but it transmits through parasitic infection. It becomes whatever the target wants, and then the parasite will go through the dick/vagina and eats the human/animal from the inside out, eventually using the body as a puppet to infect more of the same species.

When it starts breaking out of the human skin, a bunch of these adult shape shifting parasites will pop out, ready to start the cycle again.

^^There that's a believable origin for horny monstergirls. They're just all other organisms that want to use you as a host.

Wizards.
Fat neckbeard perma-virgin wizards who just wanted to make their fetishes real.
That's the best I can do.

>Tfw demigod mutant monster girl tries to hop your glorious emperor granted demigod rod.

The gods are cruel assholes and for fun they bred monsters into existence using humans and selective breeding. After enough generations and careful breeding, you get get from a human to a hydra.

Unfortunately for modern humans, that means both that they run the risk of crossbreeding if they catch the fancy of a horny monster, and also the chance of having a monster child with another human if you are unlucky and you both have recessive genes for some kind of monster.

Make 10% of births between a full monster and a human result in another monster(s), and 90% result in monsterfolk. Make 50% of births between a monsterfolk and a human result in another human(s).

I don't know, it might be autistic of me, but it's just that in these pseudo-magical realms, the lack of genetic sustainability always irritates me. If all births between monsters and human AND monsterfolk and human result in monsterfolk, you end up with no humans or monsters unless the game in which the setting is played takes place during an extremely specific span of time.

Beyond that, OP's proposed origin generally works.

Trollocs on /d/ when?

>Look at the greek gods, too: Angry at someone: Poof, monster species.
Or maybe even someone pleases them and for reasons, justified or absurd, they think making them (and their children forevermore) beastlike or otherwise overtly supernatural would be a good blessing.

it's not exactly unknown territory.

All demons/monsters are different from animals because they share a literal bond with their Lord/God. Said Lord just got deposed(leading to a drastic decrease in population) then replaced by a humanoid. This caused the surviving monsters to metamorph(with many dying in the process) into monsterpeople.

Children of monsterpeople have the same bond with their Lord, which transfers 100% of the time unlike genetics.

From there, you set the sapience slider and gender slider based on how magical realm you're going with this.

it's uh, not too hard to figure out as long as you think with the organ upstairs rather than down.

Bards.

Once, a great sage walked through the garden of heaven. This sage had spent many lifetimes contemplating creation, and had walked across the face of the world seven times over, and never tired of what his eyes beheld across those journeys. Such was his love for creation, he had driven himself to frustration in his attempts to show the depth and breadth of his feeling.

First, he simply beheld it, in all it's glory, and, from the top of the mountain upon which he lived, he smiled out across the world, for all creation to see, a smile so bright that it stopped wind in flight, and froze water in motion.

When that failed, he sang the praises of the world, his voice carrying his adoration to the four corners of the world. So beautiful was his voice that mountains shuddered and wept, and animals came from all across the land to listen.

Still, it was not enough to show the depth and breadth of his devotion. He knelt to the world, and set his skin against it, caressing it as though it were a lover and whispering secret words into the earth. So gentle his touch, and so passionate his words that the earth buckled and writhed, and from it's depths came the fiery heat of it's own love for the sage, and finally he was content.

Unfortunately, the people living in the world, unknowing of the sage's love and rapidly tiring of the disasters which they believed sprang from malice, stormed the garden of heaven and cut down the sage, who smiled even as his blood fell to earth, not raising a hand in defense.

The world wept at the loss of one who it loved so much, and took into itself the blood of the sage that had fallen upon it's surface, and with that blood did it birth the children of man and nature, myriad in number and possessed of the shape of humanity adorned with the signs of nature; Of snake tails and dragon scales, of hair of fire and skin of stone, of horns and claws and fangs and talons.

And the children of man and nature went forth to spread, and multiply.

I don't know whether to be impressed, aroused, or disgusted with this.

>curse
>implying it isn't female druids/rangers/sorceresses gifted reincarnation/shapeshifting by a benevolent nature spirit for helping to protect the forest
Why do you think they look so happy and whimsical most of the time?

>The First Bard

Color me impressed.

>Man fucks Nature, creates monstergirls

I can buy it, though the prose is a little off in some parts.

that's pretty fucking terrifying and amazing
good job sir. You win a wet can of nightmare fuel.

>prude to notice me

Oh my god, I just notice the whole gig with sphinxes subspecies is basicaly "Notice me senpai".

Nanomachines, son.

...What's this from? Asking for a friend.

GURPS Biotech, I believe.

GURPS Bio-Tech. It's full of that kind of stuff.

GURPS Bio-Tech.

Animalistic deities who grant their paragons and chosen ones small amounts of their power, which manifests as animalistic traits can be used to explain everything from kemonomimi, to actual monster-girls, to straight-up furries.

Main deity of the desert area in a campaign setting I'm working on has clergy that have fennec-like features, because that's the form it usually takes on in the mortal realm: a fennec the size of a horse with eyes that look like miniature suns. Just as an example. A god of magic and riddles turning people into sphinx-girls, or even outright into sphinxes would make just as much sense.

Here are some options:

1) Jealous god/goddess gets fucking fed up with humanity's women, creates monstergirls to deprive them of men
2) Jealous god/goddess gets fucking fed up with humanity's women, transforms many of them into monstergirls that can still breed but pass down the curse
3) Through some curveball of evolution, monsters that can peacefully be fucked by men explode in population to the point where "normal" monsters die out and some level of wildness in monstergirls is still viable(largely due to rape on thier part)
4) Canonical wizards/magical realming

This, it's basically how all mythology worked
That or somebody spilled blood.on the cosmos

>.Option B

Greeks got it right.

Medusa?
Poseidon raped a priestess of Athena in her temple while shapeshifted into a horse.
Athena the "protects" Medusa after the deed was done by turning her into a monster.

Mania (yes snake tail and human woman upper body)?
Well Zeus dicked this one human woman and got her preggers.
Her a said "I had enough of his and his halfbreed kids shit." and curses the woman named Lamia to turn her into part snake and force her to cannibalize her own children.

That was bloody beautiful

this, this is how you bard, this is seriously what bards should aspire too.
i mean you don't do much better then that.
>do as you must, i already won

Nicely done.

XS would approve.

Play Changeling: The Lost.

>But, I was wondering; can monstergirls in a Veeky Forums setting be given a backstory/origin that's actually somewhat believable, rather than pure fetish fuel handwaving?

Of course.

In my setting all the mythological monster(girl/boy) races were created when a Gorgon race of Chimeras combined human and animal matter to create a more improved slave species or as experiments.

Most of the experiments were failures or just died, but some were viable and even succeeded in reproducing, although fertilization remains an issue with all the monster(girl/boy) races.

As for the races they're more ''ayy lmao'' or just too damn creepy to be smut material or anything like that.

No, bards have way more sex than this.

Basically xenomorphs. The reason they look like humans with monster features is they're naturally occurring chimeric genetic opportunists.

A better word would have been verisimilitude

>"So, wait, you'll not only give me some kittens, but you'll make the kitten-making *fun*? *And* you'll want to do it again whenever I want to, *and* you'll stick around afterwards to help raise the kittens? Score!"
Why are humans such easy to take advantage of sluts?

Not gonna lie, I have been wanting to play a cute, near-sighted gynosphinx in a game for a long, long time. Not really apropos very much to the thread, but I know it's possible to play a monstergirl without it being magical realm/lewd--you just have to be mature about it. That, and, well...

She's a meganekko meganeko

Our only biological advantage is our ability to breed with anything at any time.

>made by feminists to gain monster traits, making them strong enough to overthrow the patriarchy.
>instead become fetish fuel for male sex fantasies

Delicious irony!

Pretty good story.

>meganekko meganeko

What the fuck is up with that life cycle? How do they even survive if it's that much of a pain in the ass to reproduce?

problem, user?~

I dunno man. Most monstergirl lovers are subs. Not only that, but considering that they are by most accounts bigger, stronger and faster, Monstergirls might be the way to victory:
>Nobody wants to kill them cause "muh waifu", and will be forgiven for anything they do
>They can infilitrate the higher ends of society
>Normal women will go them to become Monstergirls, thus getting indoctrinates
>Monstergirls only breed monstergirls. Eventually the population will be disheveled
>The Fetish fuel works against the males, because they're too busy plowing their monstergirl wife/caring for their monstergirl daughters.
>Even if they do try to kill them, monster girls have shit like Dragons, Giants amd Manticores. And besides, who would want to fight when you can fuck instead? Expect massive desertion in the ranks

>NBC training in the future includes courses about catgirl-bombing terrorism and probably a ton of abominations of the same kind.

I dig it. In fact now I kinda want to play a disgruntled EOD veteran that was contaminated by such an explosion and now has his life in a complete shambles.

I'm now strongly reminded of Trivia in Gasto Phobia.

Yeah, but unlike third wave feminists, monster girls often like men.

If Veeky Forums has told me anything, it's that everything is fetish fuel. I miss you tilelover ;_;

There's probably a crowd for femen or "die cis scum" porn.

Pretty much anything that results in women becoming ultra compliant for men isn't going to work, especially if it tanks the market value on heterosex.

As cute as the concept sounds, you deserve to be bopped at length with wiffle bats for that.

Oh yeah, I really do. Would entirely be worth it, though, if I ever got to play her.

Its a more a femminist conspiracy sort of thing: Eventually, the male populace will just no longer exist, since all monstergirls breed monstergirls.

I mean seriously, look at the original monstergirl Index. Humanity is on the brink of extinction because they wont stop fucking monstergirls, and normal human women get turned into them.

i remember back then the moster lord idea for monstergirl/human plan was:
get enough power to have monster become monstergirls, being able to crossbreed with humans, boys being humans and girs being monstergirls
she got stuck at step 2

at some point this motivation was thrown
i dont know why, it was a mostly logical reason to get monstergirls in any setting

I prefer to go with more "realistic" origins for monstergirls, with their development mostly being convergent evolution with, at most, a little help from the gods "shaping them in their image".

In my setting sphinxes are descended from some prehistoric beast that was like a giant winged tiger with full-body feathers that was the common ancestor of manticores, sphinxes, and catfolk (who typically have vestigal wings).

The author's injection of his fetishes became more noticeable as time went on (even if it was a fetishy fetish since the beginning).
I believe it was way less rapey and corruption-friendly in the first entries.

Who? The MGE author dude? Pretty sure it was always about rape and corruption.

Nothing he ever has done since will top the lore for skeletons, which is that ANY dead person can be brought back, at any time, as a (female) sex fiend.

If things were different before that feel free to correct me.

the moment that fallen whatever he just gone full bore with his corruption thing, he's got a bit more calm with that now or so i heard

Beeats the hell out of me, but the whole "only gynos are female, only andros produce more gynos, hieracos procreate through rape, crinos procreate through deception/bribery, and andros honestly don't like sex that much" has been around since AD&D.

Honestly, a lot of D&D monster reproduction makes no sense. Like, why do harpies, a Chaotic Evil race, always kill their baby daddies because "it's tradition"? Isn't Chaotic Evil basically the alignment of "Fuck whatever you want, I'm doing what I want, and you can't stop me"? Why the hell do medusa/maedar pairings only produce viable offspring - and that only in the form of new maedar - in less than 1 out of 100 pregnancies?

Yeah, I'm really not a fan of the "all MG progeny are new MGs". If I'm going magical realm enough to do purely female monsterfolk in a setting, I go with the Gender Equals Breed trope instead.

It's one of several reasons I've become less than impressed with the MGE, even if it was the first "MG Friendly Setting".

Maedar are something randumb from Dragon magazine, iirc; the 2e MM points out that human/medusa pairings work just fine.

I rather like that in 2e, minotaur/female human and medusa/male human pairings both produce fullbreed monsters of the appropriate type, and its a relatively easy way to get big, dangerous monster hordes.

But yes, sphinxes are definitely kept low in population by their weird ass reproduction.

Maedar have always been stupid. I distinctly remember when they were first introduced, thinking, "that's it? Why even bother?"

d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/a/anthropomorphic-animal

No, Maedar first appeared in the AD&D Monstrous Manual. It's just that WoTC never bothered bringing them back officially because the whole "male medusa with no hair at all whose unique power is turning stone to flesh" is frankly kind of stupid. I prefered 4e's take on male medusas.

I feel like the early entries had at least a pretense of being a setting, even if it was only two lines of non-sex related fluff in a whole page.

I check it out from time to time for the decent artwork, current ones are "Here's a X with tits, it's gonna fuck you in such and such way, thoroughly"

>all MG progeny are new MGs
I'm probably about to hit the magical realm's event horizon, but it could work with non-standard reproduction methods.
>asexual reproduction: humans are more likely to show pity/get lured by cute/female-looking monsters (or a wizard made them all females to begin with)
>gynogenesis (MGE equivalent irl; nature is wierd like that) or hybridogenesis
>MGs are in fact hermaphrodites/sexued with no dymorphism, with seminal glomeras and no external sexual organs.

Damn, where are Veeky Forums's biologists when you need them?

I figured it had to be Dragon magazine retardation. If not, it makes no sense that in the same edition of the same book that reveals human men can easily reproduce with medusas, that there'd be a much slower, more annoying way to reproduce with a creature whose whole point is to reproduce with medusas.

>I feel like the early entries had at least a pretense of being a setting, even if it was only two lines of non-sex related fluff in a whole page.

I don't know, can you give me an apples to apples comparison?

For example, comparing the Skeleton vs the Alp, the Alp is probably the better handled creature for a similar niche.

Don't forget, this was the same book that gave us the absurdity of the sphinxes, made two different kinds of orc/ogre hybrid depending on which species was the mother, and described gnolls as patriarchal, among other things.

No. Ogrillons are from the 1e Fiend Folio, Sphinxes are from the 1e MM.

>Humanity is on the brink of extinction
That was never the case, it was just some people making assumption based on basically nothing.

The MGE website, at a minimum, notes that the succubus queen or whoever is trying to figure out a way to unfuck the world before humans go extinct, but I'm not sure its stated that they're close to that point.

Ok, here's one of the earliest and one of the latest monsters, taken at random. Bits unrelated with sex are highlighted in red.
If a player came at my table with the hornet for a standard campagn, I would probably tell him to jack off before coming back, and then we'd rework/expand that character into something more suited to the game
If someone came at my table with the eel thing, I would probably not allow him at all.

And the second example has twice the amount of text. Theorically it should also have twice as much non sex-related stuff.

It was either one of the books or a Q&A, but he did clarify that humans both outnumber and outbreed monster girls, but that didn't happen until years after that the whole 'humans are tethering on the brink' theories started circulating.

With the hornet, we have some basics for a society. They have monachic nests, use spears and venom in battle, are slavers, and bees are their rivals. It's not much but it's something.

With the eel, we have... slimy body? And I find the sex part much more detailled and cringey.

And IIRC eels have a role in shintoism, and are present in various mythologies (melusine, for example). There could at least have been a line referencing it.

probably got lost in translation, wont be the first time
also, to me thes are just outlines, 1 page notes of a book, ready to be fluffed up
just a bit of work to be useable, IMO

To be fair, the former is a pretty sparse and generic concept whereas the latter seems to be based off something or other, and they don't strike me as similar concepts.

you know what gets me? people trying to shoehorn genetics into a world with genies, sex-changing belts, and sentient capes that eat your face.

what says everything similar to a chordate reproduces, or even reproduces sexually, or even uses gametes?

these creatures could reproduce asexually, through budding, through spreading a curse, through a ritual, through abiogenesis, or through some weird splicing like Kiff from Futurama.

Maybe they do the opposite of the dbz fusion dance.

You know what I'd like to see? Humans conquering monster kingdoms and making off with their women, like Jay Naylor in reverse blended with the Free Folk from ASOIAF and lots of heavy metal album covers.

Armies of humans conquering monsters with first Bronze, then Iron, then Steel mixed with stolen techniques of sorcery augmenting human elemental magic brought to bear against their enemies. Lines of chained elves of half a dozen colors led by elite horse archers down arrow-straight stone roads from the burning ruins of the High Elf Empire, free use wolfgirls in every tavern and marketplace to memorialize mankinds first conquest and pet catgirls leashed to wealthy merchants and chieftans. Control over rarer and more exotic monstergirls fought over fiercely by the still half-barbarian clans and tribes whose many small wars keep the realms citizen-soldiers sharp. Properly domesticated monsters (except the Wolves), those who submitted willingly and those few who did not attack the Kingdom and instead joined it in friendship allowed equal status in the decentralized Cossack/Orlanthi social structure of the Kingdom of Man. Ruling over all the mighty Sorcerer Kings, recognized as the First Among Equals for their ability to bring victory, health and wealth to their people through unmatched magic and given sole rights to taking Dragons as their brides.

DARE YOU ENTER MY MAGICAL REALM?

>DARE YOU ENTER MY MAGICAL REALM?

Sure will, boss, what system and when you gonna run it.

Well D&D owes as much to sci fi as it does to fantasy, so there's no particular reason to think genes *don't* exist either.

So roman barbarian invasions or most of Africa pre-colonization in a fantasy setting?
I suggest you find some old law, like Hammurabi's code, some records of lawspeakers, or religious codes. It can be hard to reproduce a foreign morality.

FATAL

Today

Wait for the knock, bring your own lube.

Honestly? what said, with a heavy does of the creator god/ess simply creating things they'd find fuckable because fuck you they're in charge

Add in cases where other beings (wizards, druids, ect) create things and/or there being an objective standard of beauty (because if a setting has an objective standard of good or evil why the fuck not?) so sexual selection gravitating to human like traits, and/or crossbreeding across very different species being possible and you get monstergirls and things of that nature

Mostly right. I envision the relatively small professional army backed by the hordes of barbarian spearmen, axemen, and horse archers/light cav to be heavy infantry modelled after Roman-influenced Celts and Cataphractii working closely together and augmented by tame monsters and giants (the only non-fetish monster race aside from the undead, because giants are awesome). Will look those up.

Do you prefer oil, water or silicone based?

>>made by feminists to gain monster traits, making them strong enough to overthrow the patriarchy.
Is it odd I actually like this idea but only if you add a bit more to it?
Like have a feminazi witch or something do a massive ritual to empower women expecting them to rise up against men afterwards, instead there's about a million different reactions, some freak out but go on like they always have, some go full monster, some fall into a depression some do rise up, some just demand a little more respect but don't really try to change anything, some become adventures (a high number to lynch the feminazi witch), ect

I vaguely remember Veeky Forums once discussing the idea of a horndog god that got up to Zeus tier shenanigans that occasionally went bad for him along those lines
Because his true form was that of a fuckboi and despite being a horndog he'd fold the moment something tried to force itself on him

>unless the game in which the setting is played takes place during an extremely specific span of time.
Honestly, I sorta assume this is the case, and the reason the humans want the monstergirls gone is they realize what's happening

>I dunno man. Most monstergirl lovers are subs. Not only that, but considering that they are by most accounts bigger, stronger and faster, Monstergirls might be the way to victory:
Mutual victory?

I tend to assume human nations have a higher than average number of members of other races/hybrids because A) humans are open and welcoming compared to other races and aren't opposed to interbreeding making them good diplomats and traders and B) Are greedy motherfuckers who'll go on a conquering spree if they think they can get away with it and are willing to fuck anything and aren't too picky about their comfort women/men
