ARMS AND ARMOUR: MAKE CHAIN LOOK INTERESTING EDITION

Ah maille. You can never go wrong with some good ol' chain!
Problem is, most of the time it does not look all too interesting on it's own.

You can paint it or spice it up with coloured rings if you really want to.

There are also other kinds of chainmail. The best known alternative pattern is nicknamed "kingsmail".

Mail means tabards and surcoats, which is honestly my favorite part

yes, with chain you gotta accessorize.

Some bump.

I do re-enactment and larping, i have one haubergeon (short sleeves, waist length) that i've lined with leather on the edges to stop loose rings flying off as its only cheao indian mild steel, so theres a lot of wear and tear.

My hauberk (knee length full sleeves) has a riding slit to alow for more movement and has gold rings around the arms for some decoration.

Easiest way to spice up chain is putting stuff under it. wearing it over a plain white/cream/black/brown gambesson is historically accurate and cheaper, but if you wear a big tunic under it with fancy trimming that pop out below the knees and wrists it adds a lot of colour.

Also, a lot of cultures that used chain didn't wear it bare, arming coats and tabbards are big and clever, allowing chain to show through so you still look armoured, but allows flairs of colour

Why was chain-link armor never a thing?
>Excellent defence against slashing
>Stabbing? Just wear an bottom layer of leather or any other material

Also, it's more aesthetically pleasing than Chainmail

How would that possibly be flexible enough to allow you to wear it without changing the material to something useless?

Well chainmail is excellent against slashing and is actually pretty good againsts stabbing attacks despite what some people say. And you are going to need a padded layer beneath any non rigid armor.

Also making long ass wires like that would be pointless when you could just turn your shorter wires into mail.

Yeah, right. Have you ever tried using an actual sharp spear?

Must have been comfortable... last one of chainmail that I got. Any requests?

Maille was the original capeshit.

AND HIS NAME IS

That would be a notch to repair in comparison to chainmail, and I don't think it would perform any better.

You might manage comparable protection with less weight though.

Hmm.

Chainmaille has significantly more overlap than this does if you just compare the basic pattern so it's significantly less likely to give.

mail owns. no need to gild the lily.

Is that a tulwar handle mounted on a kopis or is that some indian evolution of the kopis?

Indian handle on a Nepali Kukri.
Kukris come in various shapes and sizes, and are marked by the forward angled head after the fuller.

So a combination of both then :)

>Chainmaille
Whye dost though hast to overcorrecte so obnoxiousleye?
